This is great. The song is so much better when it's sad, it has so much depth to it. My favorite rendition is the short one in Lilo and Stitch. That one was so chock full of emotion... Just the way it was intended.
Damn, this song is kicking my ass! It's hard not to think of everyone that has come and gone when I hear this..counting tears for sure...extremely sad
@liljoe4195 Calm down, don't get upset. EthanCole said "whites take things that aren't ment for them" (***EthanCole wasn't commenting about Hawaii or Hawaiian history, he simply made a racist remark about whites***) and all I said when I commented back to him was that his broad, generalized statement was racist, so if he's going to be broad, then say "people". I wasn't denying that whites took Hawaii or anything. I simply said stop being racist! Regardless of who it's toward, racism is racism!
i want to go home my home where all my family is Hawaii. i am only 13 and we moved here for the docters for my brother who has a disability. and i want to go back see the grave of my grandma and grandpa. i want to go HOME.
I love this song. Amy has one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard. When on vacation, they sang this song on the beach at Waikiki at an event. there and at the end of the program, they sang this song. An elderly Hawaiian woman came up to a group of us and made us all hold hands in a circle. We all sang out loud and we swayed back and forth, and at times she would sing Oli, Oli Oli at the end of a verse. It was the most beautiful evening and one of my fondest memories of Hawaii.
This rendition of Aloha Oe has got to be one of the most poignant and beautiful I've ever heard. Hopefully, I'll be able to take a cruise to Hawaii some day.
This is just a very wonderful video. Amy Hanaiali`i has a very beautiful voice and she sings this song just perfectly. I am glad that you uploaded this video.
is this the lryics to the song? its so sad. brings a tear to my eye Proudly the rain on the cliffs Creeps into the forest Seeking the buds And miniature lehua flowers of the uplands. Chorus: Farewell to you, farewell to you, O fragrance in the blue depths One fond embrace and I leave until we meet again Sweet memories come Sond softly in my heart You are my beloved sweetheart Felt within.
Amy sings this song so beautifully...brought sweet tears to my eyes..To all my friends and family i have back home in hawaii...and fond memories of both my parents that have passed away..god bless them both..and to all the people back home on the islands..god bless you all..you all make what hawaii is all about..a loving land of rich culture...and beautiful people...Until we meet again..Aloha!
Oh, my gosh. Well, the tears are truly running. I just adore Amy for starters, and then this song is a tear-jerker as well. I miss Hawaii terribly, and this is simply lovely. As sad as it makes me feel, it's also a real treasure to be able to see and hear it.
just came home from Hawaii :( god, i never thought i'd miss that beautiful land that much! can't wait 'til i travel to hawaii again! :) loved to watch the hula hula :*
this song was sang by the queen i think..if im right..she was saying good bye to the old ways cuse men from america came and started takeing over things
Queen Lili'uokalani did write this song, but the story is that the song was inspired by a horseback trip she took in 1877 to the windward side of Oʻahu. After visiting the Boyd ranch in Maunawili, Liliʻuokalani witnessed a farewell embrace between Colonel James Boyd and one of the young ranch ladies. A tune came to her on the ride home and she composed the words once she returned to Washington Place.
@lovedapizza it makes me very sad how americans try to change culture. I love culture and think that the differences between lands is what makes the world so interesting and such a great place.
@opaqueserendipity you make it sound like Americans don't have any culture of their own. I think that preserving cultures is great but at the same time - change is good. Just making a general statement.
@hqi1321 well, I didn't mean it as saying that Americans have no culture. I just mean that America has entered foreign lands, changing cultures. it may not always be in a negative way, but what fun is the world if it is all America? you understand?
Of all the renditions of this song I've heard, I think this one is the most beautiful. I like this video and how it shows the historic images of travel and Hawai'i. I hope to go there someday.
@YoohTubee She in my eyes is a very, stuborn proud woman. Can you imagine how frustrating it must have been to first queen of your people and have to give up your crown??!!?!?
Sometimes "Ahoi hou ku" is said which means the same. Namely, "Until we meet again".
I feel like in someway, this song is telling us to cherish our fond memories of the past. Which we should. I have happy memories of previous years.
Parties, and church services, I attended, restaurants I ate in, trips I went on, people who I knew previously, humorous incidents, happy times, happy/funny shows I watched on TV.
If there's one song that reminds me of Hawaii, this is it. So very very beautiful but sad.... because I've heard this sung at a couple of Maori funerals.
She by far sings the very best version I have EVER heard of this, delivering an emotional impact. Just normal versions even will choke you up, but she brings on the tears!
Absolutly Beautiful, i wud luv 2 know the lyrics in English, wanna know like the brief meaning of the song coz this song came out in Lilo and Stitch wen Nani sings it 2 lilo butlike she only sings the chrous 2 lilo from wat i can remember nd i wud luv 2 know the lyrics and like wat it means in English
nd by listening 2 this lady sing it it sounds even more beautiful
I believe the meaning and words have already been covered here, but to note--the song came out a bit before Lilo and Stitch. The last reigning Queen of Hawaii wrote this song many many years ago. Google the history. You will find it very interesting.
How beautiful! This extremely moving and beautiful mele brings back wonderful memories of the short time that I had on Oahu some years ago. I have made it one of my things to do, to visit Hawaii again and to spend a bit longer there than I did last time. I remember thinking at Honolulu Airport, as I was checking in to leave, how appropriate those words are. Aloha oe. Aloha!
many levels of meaning in this mele perhaps our queen was speaking a farewell to her beloved land and her loyal followers. the kaona is only in the composers mind and heart. are her hopes in the hands of the american powers to restore her sovreign status?
I learned this song for my grandfather to sing at his funeral he loved this song so much....and i listened to this over and over to learn it...thank you so much!
is it possible to find the whole song of Aloha 'Oe sung, including verses 2 and 3, not just verse 1 and the refrain? that's all you can ever find, is verse 1 and refrain, i'd like to hear verses 2 and 3 also.
this rendition hits my soul and breaks my heart. one kaona of this song is the love our Queen liliuokalni for her people was she was plqced under arrest. think about it. here she is saying Hawaii i love you until i return.
Pitch perfect! Beautiful... The most beautiful rendition of Aloha 'oe I've ever heard. Queen Lili'uokalani would be so proud. Mahalo nui loa Amy for fusing yesteryear with our society today.
This is great. The song is so much better when it's sad, it has so much depth to it. My favorite rendition is the short one in Lilo and Stitch. That one was so chock full of emotion... Just the way it was intended.

As it glided through the trees
