The Anniversary U87 shock mount and mic is not stainless. It's polished nickel. I own it and it's beautiful sounding. Also the EMI Beatles style pop screen is polished nickel. :-)
I've had the chance to use them for drum overheads and they had a very clear sound that is always usable and precise. its totally worth having one, or pair if you can!
i had the opportunity to work with this mic. it's quite the multi mic. we used it from vocals to upright bass, outside bass drum (classic) and overheads, very detailed sound. you might not like the sound raw (after all its just a matter of taste) but the signal which comes out of this mic is really adaptive for processing
as for me definitely worth having one :) just my 2 cents

Neumann makes the best of the best when it comes to microphones. You will be very happy with the sound you capture with it.
