Parachute was made from a piece of round rip-stop nylon with a center hole. Strings were braided fishing line. Chemical reaction of baking soda, citric acid and water extended a syringe to lift the nose cone. Elastic band pulled the parachute out of the nose cone. Ken S.
Just wondering how so much water comes out of the bottle, is the nozzle small to allow a stronger and longer burst? I have a water rocket launcher, they are so fun!!!
This rocket used about 680 ml of 30% soapy water. Nozzle is small so that the energy is released over a longer period, otherwise it would go too fast and disintegrate. Thrust was about 17 pounds even with such a small nozzle throat, 0.136 inches diameter. Ken S.
Yes, it is. Polyester resin (same as you would use to make a fiberglass composite) and carbon fiber filament with 6000 fibers, from Toho Carbon Fibers. KS.
Use hurricane tape (polyethylene fiber). It's much better than the fiberglass packing tape. One layer (radial and axial wind) and the bottle can take 400 psi or more. KS.
if you sneek on on the space shuttle you might be able to get from low earth to the moon , naw the water would freeze, mabee not. with all the stupid shit done
At the start of part 3 you can see the green nitrogen bottle beside the rocket in the tractor bucket. It's pressurized to about 2000 psi, and it was a great source of air pressure. KS.
Hello, i want it to. Because we must do for school also make a bottle who can shoot the farst. The length of our schoolrecord is, 106 metres. And my question is.. how can i build a bottle like this, who also can shoot far as this?
Great stuff guys, impressive documentary too! I would still love to know... - what type of bottle you used? - how reliable was the recovery system? - where did you get the CF yarn? - what type of nozzle did you use? - what launch mechanism/coupling did you use? - what sensor did you use for determining hmax? - well, any details at all really..? ;-) I guess there are a few trade secrets, eh? Anyway, great job!
what kind of compressor or tank do u use. cause when i saw in the video looked like a paintball tank hpa?

where did you get the tubes from?

The tubes supporting the ring fin are polystyrene, from the local hobby shop. KS

antigravityresearch ! because of this video, i got an idea in making a straight high flight water bottle

is that thing carbon fiberd?

very nice video, really, great ideas, good concept..
just the keyboard music: please... if you'd put on some nice music?
and the rocket falls: take a lil bit too long..
but i watched all 3 parts, great source of inspiration!
cheers, -morti-

did you try that fiberglass reinforce strapping tape yet? i might give that a try first its cheap and you can buy it anywhere.

how do you get to that pressue do you use a compressor

How much thrust does the rocket provide??
Nice vid at all... =)
Just working on a similar rocket as booster for a small plane.
It´s quite fun to work with this kind of engine :-)
Great job guys. Thank you

About 15 pounds of thrust, diminishing quickly over a few seconds.

378.561 meters = 1242 feet, wow just over 1/3 of a kilometer, now thats high for just 1 bottle. Soda + foam + 1000+ psi

Oh, and change the name to "water bottle" instead of "pop bottle" and you'll get a hell of a lot more hits...
All the best,
