I have the wacom pen and fun but it's difficult to drew without watching the screen. do you think that an ipad will be good as the wacom tablet in drawing?
@Shoen you just need to get used to it, trust me. it took me some time as well, but now i have no problems whatsoever and it feels the same as if i were drawing on paper. it doesn't matter where you look, the eye-hand coordination stays the same. :)
so good, but so fucking expensive... come on.. who would buy a table for over 200 dollars just for sketching up... i prefer something cheaper although it doesn't have those lilo features... it all depends on your skills mostly... so sad this one takes up too much..
If your thinking about pressure sensitive. Photoshop has automatic pressure sensitive pen options that allow you to use a mouse pen to draw with pressure sensitive but i was never a fan of pressure sensitive.
The best tablet is the Asus EP 121. I've finally found after looking endlessly for such a tablet for a reasonable price. You won't find a ipad or other tablets where you can rest you palm/hand on the screen while drawing. Its unnatural for your hand not rest on the screen which makes drawing/coloring hard so this is the solution. Though if more people buy this tablet the lower the price will go. Its pressure sensitive and allows photoshop. Its a little over a $1000. Draw easy and quickly.
Drawing with such tablets like intuso/bamboo is ridicolous. Time consuming and you'll never be able to draw to your full potential. You're better off buying the new MOUSE pen's, $50 that allow you to have as much space as you want to which is your entire table. Unlike wacom which charges you about $400 for a full size tablet.
What would you recommend for someone who just wants to sketch and draw. I mainly just use Illustrator and Photoshop. So that is basically all i would use it for, and there are so many of them out there i dont know which to go for. Much feedback would be appreciated!
Those little screens don't flip when you switch your tablet around like the iTouch does with movies and Music Videos. BUT you get to choose if you're right handed or left handed during the set up.
@sosarge1 Bamboo tablets don't have photoshop software included in the bundle. Instead they have Corel. I suggest going to the wacom website. They have the latest updates on what programs are in which boxes, and they have a list of stores who sell their tablets.
US products often don't bother with price exchanges and just substitute dollars for GBP, i.e. an iPod Touch is about £200, but the US price is $229 >.<
@Unicronsbitch well my sis tht is new at digital drawing told me tht she loves her tablet! believe me ether way it will take practice pracice and tons of prctice! i am study graphic design so i know it lol, dobt worry about the model, just choose the tablet tht you believe its the bst for you and your art :) i started with intous too lol now im savng for an cintq :) good luck!
I would so like to buy one so i don't have to go to the computer shop to scan my drawings .. problem is i'm still a 10 yr old kid lol xD hey, just bcus im 10 don't underestimate me +.+
would i be ok with this as a beginner, i know this is more pro, but i plan on using this until i become good, i am very determined to keep using it even if it takes years, so instead of buying a cheaper one and wanting to upgrade i was going to just get one of these straight out, what would you say? given that the money is not an issue for me?
@Unicronsbitch depends on what you mean by "good" and what kind of medium you like; if you want to paint, I would get the intuos4 since it has a higher pressure sensitivity and tilt sensitivity. However, if you're just going to do pencil/pen work you should get bamboo. It doesn't have as much pressure sensitivity (2048 vs 512-1024), and doesn't come with photoshop essentials (only corel painter essentials). The Bamboo Pen costs 3 times less than the cheapest Intuos4 though.
@pacman101102 The border is that large so that your hand and wrist can rest on it. The border area is registrating the pen as wel, so that the cursor can move along the edge of the screen more easily. In terms of ergonomics the tablet is very well thought out, believe me, you want that border ;)
Hey, thanks for the great review. I'm not a professional designer but I'm an artist and I'm interested in digital art. Do you suggest I get the Bamboo instead? Thanks!
i got my intuos4 for x-mas. i'm in an animation program so i use it alot, and also have alot of classmates who own them as well. I love this tablet compared to my old Graphire 3 (it's still a good tablet as well)
you could say i'm light with my hand snice i havn't had any scratch problems. i'm still on my first nib, it has worn down abit but i used a nail file to round it up abit again. and for the surface i see most tape on a clear cel to stop the surface from being scratched.
Help someone!!! i just scratched badly my intuos4 small. i did a quick search on the web and realized that i can actually peel the"" grey/active" area off and replace it with a new one? is that correct? Any advice of how should i do this? best everyone!
HELP! I spilled a half of a cup of water on my desk and at the same time knocked my Wacom pen off its holder into the pool of water! The tablet itself did not get wet but the pen got wet! The next day I dried the pen off, and tried it. And the pen part would not work at all. but the eraser part would work normal What should I do ???
When would intuos5 tablets coming out? Does the price of this tablet ever goes down? $300 is a lot of money and we are in 2011. I hope Wacom doesn't create a new tablet after I purchase this.
With the heavy usage I will be doing on this tablet (I do a lot of digital illustrating up to 8 hours a day) I am worried about the infamous nib wear and tear. Apparently if you're not careful you could get the nib inadvertently sharp enough to actually scratch the tablet surface.
@WastedWilliam actually, I would really recommend you get something in the Wacom Bamboo range first, as it's a great starter tablet and *much* cheaper than an Intuos. The Intuos range is more for professionals, where as Bamboo is for beginning tablet users. :)
@Otownbullies96 there would be no point in connecting it to a netbook, most programs you will use with these high end tablets are graphic intensive, and use a lot of ram, not to mention the need of a big screen to draw comfortably.
@WastedWilliam I have one of these and a bamboo(wacom) but I have to say I now use a mouse with a high dpi. My bamboo broke after about 9 months so for the price I got a bit of use but my Intuos4 small broke 3 weeks after I bought it and it had a very similar problem to the first one. Now I know you could just say I had an agenda against wacom but I don't if you want to get one it may last years and it will certainly be easier than using a mouse. I'm just giving you a bit of warning.
Professional artist here: I dislike the Intuos 4. My old Graphire was better. The Int4 is HUGE for having such a modest active area. The buttons are don't depress easily enough, I never use them, and I only ever use one function on the wheel: brush size, because changing modes is clunky and awkward. Nibs wear down really quickly because of the papery texture which I also dislike.
I wouldn't recommend the Int4. Get a refurbished Int 3 or a bamboo fun.
What digital program would you recommend using with this tablet? I have a PC with windows 7 on it, but I was looking for some program that's pretty cheap. Any suggestions?
@SpectralSpon There are no cheap programs. Photoshop is the most expensive one. Corel Pain is what you should get, it's cheap and quite good. Unless you download stuff illegally, get Photoshop.
What about the huge complaints about the nibs? Would love to start exploring digital art, but the whole nib issue is seriously deterring me from buying one.
Anyone who has the Intuos4 for at least for a few months or maybe half a year, what's your opinion on the nibs? I hear all sorts of home-made solutions, but it seems pointless if your paying hundreds of bucks just to have to fix something yourself.
Yeah and it literally eats the nibs of the pen in seconds becouse of the tablets surface. I was using graphiare 4 before and it was a year untill i had to change the nib ,and i'm doing frame-by-frame animation ,that means ALOT of drawings. An normal notebook cover sheet fixes the issue though
i have a budget of roughly 700 dollars and i'm seriously thinking of buying a wacom tablet. could anyone offer any advice on the best choice for a wacom?... by the way i'm new to tablets, but i draw traditionally
I'm going into school for Video Game Design. I'm new to Tablets and looking to purchase one, and hoping to get something for professional use if the there's enough bang for my buck, so to speak. Would you recommend this? I'm thinking of getting a medium. (Having trouble finding the best price available to Canada, seen prices ranging from $300-$500 :/)
Should've shown it working! That's why I clicked on this and sat through four and a half minutes of it. Well I'm going to buy one that I firstly see working - which wasn't this one.
Just got the small one, and it is amazing! I've been doing graphics for different companies for years with only a mouse, and now I don't know how I did it. Lots of great functionality built into CS5.

@SpectralSpon Photoshop.

@davomrmac Photoshop CS5 is not cheap... Its 700$... Very expensive in my opinion.

@SpectralSpon Okay you could look for photoshop but its like 800-900 dollars. or you could try corel painter closer to about 300 dollars

@WastedWilliam You should start with a Wacom Bambo Pen and Touch or something on that range, this is way to expensive to start with..

@WastedWilliam This would be a great graphics tablet for you.
