"Do Wah Diddy Diddy" by Manfred Mann is a cover version of the 1963 song by American band The Exciters, originally written by Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich. Manfred Mann's version was recorded on 06/11/1964, was released on 07/10, and spent two weeks in August at number one in the UK singles chart and in October of that year it spent two weeks at the number one spot in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.
