  • Just casually getting shivers down my spine. Anyone else?

  • @Lotto15719 yes, and I love it!

  • I'm surprised that people don't realise that John is actually a dramatic tenor. If you listen to his Jean Valjean you'd understand. John just has a remarkably good range. Brilliant low range and an extraordinary high range as well. If you listen to him sing Who Am I, his top B is flawless.

  • i personally like the deeper tone in his voice. imo it just sounds more badass.

  • I really don't want to upset anyone but Gerard Butler actually has a better PHANTOM voice than JOJ. I mean I like JOJ but his voice is more bass than a baritone (a.k.a his voice is a bit too deep). I don't mean to upset anyone that prefers JOJ's voice.

  • Webber said he didn't want the usual operatic sounding voice for the phantom. He said it was a rock opera and for the movie he wanted an edgy voice and that is why he picked Butler. He did a wonderful job in the movie and had singing experience.

  • what a butchery :/ i mean phantom is awe-sum as always but ugh

  • Nice!

  • I heard JOJ live.. first time phantom and it was awesome...

  • @3:26 is she pregnant

  • love this vid, and JOJ's voice it really makes me swoon:)but rachel barrell isn't good enough for his voice

  • Forgot how much the Phantom turns me on. Is it just me?

  • I saw this on broadway and I LOVE IT...I'm in Tennessee and our ban was in the Macy's Parade

  • @robertbarrie96 i wish there was but unfortunatly the only English language Cast Albums that exist are the Original London cast (both in 2-CD and Highlights versions) and the Original Canadian cast Highlights CD. very rarily does a 2nd cast album from a production get made although i have sween a few. Scarlet Pimpeernel & one of the reVIVAls of "Grease" comes to mind

  • omg, wie ka ma so öbis guet findä?!

  • Christines voice is so bland :( but joj is AWEOME! He's my favorite phantom. :D

  • @greenqweens Mine too!!! He was so good i cried.... Its like he actually the Phantom and he is so into his acting that you actually believe his feelings and makes it so emotional :')

  • Honestly, in my opinion Crawford was a bad voice for the phantom. His voice is too weak; JOJ and Gerard Butler share one thing, and that's the fact their voices are powerful and give the phantom a feeling of dominance. Same with Rachel Barrel, her voice is a million times stronger than Sarah Brightman's.

    Again, my opinion.

  • i want a mask like that !!!!!!!

  • This is the voice Phantom was written for - rich, powerful! Love it!

  • @davidjroth2002 more like rich and insane

  • Phantom of The Opera is really fantastic!!!!!

  • I myself enjoyed Butler as the Phantom - he brought a darker quality to the role. However, you simply can't beat JOJ or Crawford or, loosely, Karimloo (whom I love, admittedly, but he's not my Phantom).

  • @WICKEDrocksHL26

    I liked Butler, a lot.

What he lacked in singing abilities, he more than made up for in his acting.

But I agree with you with all three of those guys, Ramin being my personal favorite.

  • He and Ramin Karimlau are my favourites , but Peter Karrie's final lair is just AWESOME !

  • dont tell that gerald butler should ve not been the phentom

  • @rebeccav1231

Gerard Butler shouldn't have been the phantom.

  • Can anyone tell me the name of this song?

  • Rocorded by a rock

  • John Owen-Jones has a great voice! It goes from almost a whisper and a tiny falset to huge bombastic. Even more than Henk Poort did, who I always considered to have the best Phantom-voice ever.

  • 1:42 damn Christine is tiny.

  • i just love this creepiness of this song. 1:05 - 1:42 best part.

  • I love Rachael barrel as Christine! she has such a pretty voice!

  • woah christine's part at the end just blew me away. all i can say is: wow!

  • OMG!! Can you send me some of these pics!?! :D

  • God, I don't like her voice at all !!!

  • @jobikr No doubt - but HE kicks ass :D

  • @DelphanGruss phantom is freaking sex on legs lol

he's awesome i can't wait to get back to Las Vegas and see the perfect performance again.

  • Love those pictures!! <3<3<3

  • John Owen Jones is my favorite Valjean! Colm Wilkinson is my favorite Phantom...kinda ironic they've had critical acclaim in both roles.

  • Hello? Who the hell is Christine in this and I certainly do not like John Owen-Jones's voice one little bit. Where are you Michael??? Come back....... Get rid of the novices

  • @baabaagreensheep, Hi, Christine is Rachel Barrell, oh and by the way, although your free to your opinion on John Owen Jones' voice, I wouldn't go as far as saying hes a novice. Thats kinda harsh, just saying, not trying to start an arguement.

  • @darkphantom24873 Hi, on a second listening I think that maybe I was a bit harsh, but you know what it's like when it comes to musicals... we all have our favourites!

  • I like it so much !!!

    Erik rules!!!!

  • Luckly I got tickets to see London's Production of the Phantom in August. I hope Ramin and Gina are performing that day. I go August 21st.

  • Es mag ja viele begnadete Sänger geben, aber das Phantom in Hamburg mit Peter Hofmann und Anna-Maria Kaufmann, das ist für mich unschlagbar.

  • Where was JOJ when he could've been casted in the 2004 Movie? He should've been the Phantom in the movie not Gerald Butler.

  • Where the hell was ANY of them! but honestly does JOJ or any other person want to be related to that movie. Most people would argu it was decent. Well most people haven't read phantom of manhattan and made the connection of the changes to that movie setting up for the sequal.

  • One thing he's trying to say is that GB and ER have differences between the real actors. It doesn't matter anyway, what's done is done, it's the past, bam. Now let's look at the future, the sequal, yes GB and ER maybe in the sequal but it depends how will the production will go out. It doesn't matter to us Phantom Phans that it won't be the end of the production world. If ALW made Phantom: Love Never Dies, he made it, it's too late right now. Got any place to buy Phantom of Manhatten?

  • I own the book it sucks balls. basicaly it is a rip off in some parts of susan kays phantom. but it takes some of the concepts that made that book great and turns it to shit. I still like my idea of kitty ninjas....

  • Have you seen ALW's Cats? My parents saw Cats the West End Version and POTO in 1987. They said that Cats was good but ALW was better at making Phantom than Cats. Although watching Cats on YouTube is sometimes harder to understand, most of it had a lot of opera like voices in it.

My first Theatre and Broadway production I ever saw was Phantom in 2003 with Hugh Panaro and It was the princess, although I forgot who the princess was, was it either Susan Owens or Beth Southard? Somebody help me!

  • @RebelFounderOdogoo ummmm the Leroux novel if that is what you are referring to was written and published in the early 1900's so Kays book is a cheat rip off just saying

  • @dethe8ter I was talking about how phantom of manhattan is basicaly a bad version of kays book witch is a spin off of the original novels ideas. You may not like kays book but trust me you would rather read that then manhattan.

  • @RebelFounderOdogoo I know I have read Phantom of Manhattan and most of Kay's and both in my opinion were bad to say the least. Sorry for the misunderstanding

  • Stupid Andrew Lloyd Webber wanted someone with a stupid "rock and roll" sensibility. Someone with an untrained, unusual voice. That idea is stupid. when I heard him say that, I thought, "The show is called Phantom of the Opera, not Phantom of the Rock Concert".

  • dont talk such nonsense. gerard butler was superb and so was emmy rossum. they are the onse they should try and bring to the stage. best 2 by far. every bit as good as ramin and i love ramin.

  • Seriously? Gerard butler's acting was wonderful, but he cannot sing the part. Dont you think that should be required in a musical? He was far from superb. Emmy was okay, but they lowered the songs for her because she couldn't sing the high notes.

  • @hazellwood Christine's partiture is not right for her voice (she is almost a mezzo). However in the movie, Emmy sing the songs in original key. Perhaps She can't sing THIS song live (but very few singers can sing the final cadenza live). However many players (Christines and Phantoms both) sing this song half tone low.

  • @MweeperDan23 i think they were looking for people who had never been in the show to do the movie

  • @MweeperDan23 Oh, you know, having a pretty face in a musical event is *SO* much more important...

  • @MweeperDan23

I admit, Gerard is very good, but could of been replaced with such a better singer. When I bought the movie, though, it was very good. And me and my friend were lying on the floor crying at the end of it. xx

  • @MweeperDan23 Butler did a wonderful phantom in the movie don't dis Butler.

  • @Li5021

But it could have been so much more better with someone has actually plated Phantom before and actually sings for job :P

  • @MweeperDan23 personally i wish it wouldve been Crawford, since he was the first, and MY first phantom i heard...(wish i was born earlier to see him on stage) but i wouldve settled for Gary, or Jones, or Karrie...ANYONE other than Butler

  • @MweeperDan23 King Leonidas cannot sing :/ I literally cringed listening to the soundtrack of the 2004 movie.

  • @MweeperDan23 The director wanted a more rough voice for the phantom for the movie.

  • @MweeperDan23 Gerard* :') aw gerald is a cute name xD

  • Holy God...the Phantom is refreshingly powerful in voice here.

  • @CoolMapleStore Wow, this guy's voice is awesome!

  • @CoolMapleStore JOJ is awesomesauce!

  • @CoolMapleStore she is terrible

  • The Phantom has a very striking voice. Christine is a bit nasal at the start, but she seemed to get better as the song progressed. She has a young-sounding but strong voice which is good because Christine is both quite naive and quite sexual. The ending is great.

  • i went to see this in Sacramento last Thursday and it was UNBELIEVABLE

  • Sorry but Michael Crawford is indeed an impressive Phantom! JOJ and Warlow are talented to but I've seen all 3 guys as well as watching the better quality live videos and Michael set the standard that everybody, including JOJ and Warlow, borrow from. If MC wasn't impressive he wouldn't be called a living legend for the role or still own box office records for the show either. I like all 3 men in different roles and won't diss any of them but don't judge someone you haven't seen or heard.

  • JOJ is the best Phantom. That voice!

  • The Australian cast is without a doubt the best, and you know why, because we have excellent leads (Anthony Warlow and Ana Marina) and honestly, they are brilliant.

I'm not saying that this is in anyway bad, but the best version of this musical that I have heard, and I have heard a lot of versions, is the current Australian one. I saw it twice in Melbourne and fell in love all over again.

    Check it out sometime.

  • the australian cast is indeed an excellent cast, but it is not without a doubt the best.

in my opinion i prefer the australian cast to the us cast, but not the u.k cast.

Ramin karimloo's voice is far more powerful than Anthony Warlow's, however, he still has a superb voice.

The best cast will always undoubtedly be the original london cast, no one can match Crawford's phantom - his voice and his acting will always, in my opinion, be the most emotional, the most touching, and the most powerful.

  • I'm not that big a fan of Crawford, actually -- JOJ is my favorite, although the German Phantom Uwe Kroeger is also pretty awesome

  • I actually like Gerard's version of this song the best

  • I love JOJ, but not as the Phantom. Personally, I like the movie approach to him. I really think more baritones should be cast in the part.

  • Yeah but JOJ or Anthony Warlow, they're both powerful singers. I'm not a crawford fan myself, he doesn't seem to have that raw power and bass that Warlow had. I haven't seen JOJ live but he sounds warlow like. I find it frustrating you can't buy the audio of either, I can only find crawford or michael ball.

  • Excellent! While John was singing the Phantom i watched it 3 times in Her Majesties Theater and i just loved his voice each time a bit more. No offence to Michael Crawford, he sure is a talented guy BUT being an impressive Phantom he clearly is not.

  • I've often said that John could sing the theme song from "Sesame Street" and it would be beautiful. He's kind of a kickass Phantom, and Valjean ... and probably everything else, no? =)

  • while I don't care for the rock orchestration, Rachel is on HELL of a EXCELLENT Christine!

  • I think shes the best christine too. Shes my mostfavourite =D.

  • JOJ isn't bad but, in my opinion, Michael Crawford still does the best Phantom. I just think Michael has more sensuality, mystery and less vibrato while still keeping the power and smoothness. JOJ is okay though and I wanted to give him a fair chance. By the way I did see Michael in the actual show and live as well as watching a lot of JOJ videos.

  • i saw JOJ and Rachel when i saw POTO in London in December 2004... not that sure about Rachel, but JOJ was very good.

  • Awesome - nice to hear a man who can sing this song strong instead of shying away from those higher register notes! Very refreshing!

  • very nice pic at 1:32!

  • She sounds like an angel at the end.

  • yeah wher is noellel? I noticed her videos aren't on youtube anymore!

  • WHERE DID NOELLEL GO?!?!!?!

  • somebody toll youtube about the videos if you go on to buffyphantoms video there is a comment saying that some one tolled

  • amazing simply amazing its soooo hard to hear a guy to sing the phantom and i must say JOJ is by thus far the best!!!

  • where did you get this version?

  • Yeah I agree with you JOJ is the best phantom!!! Better than Michael Crawford.

  • She's alright but nothing compared to HIM!!! (She has a nice cadenza though and her voice blends nicely with his)

  • AWESOME pics! Where did you get them? Rachel is very, very nasal. Hate her sound. Except on the crescendo at the end, she sounds terrible. And don't get me started on John Owen-Jones. I just discovered him today, and I could just go on and on and on about how . . . PHENOMENAL he sounds!!!

  • This was JOJ's final performance

  • Were did you get the pictures? Great vid! :)

  • i agree think Rachel sounds a bit weird

  • gr8 vid well made xxx
