  • So I went to my local music shop looking for my first condenser mic. This vid sold me on getting the KSM 32, but when I went to buy it, they didn't have it in stock. The employee recommended getting an AKG C214. Have you Ronan or anyone else had the chance to compare these or have an AKG C214? If so, do you recommend it? All responses greatly appreciated!

  • Hey! can i use the apogee one as an interface for this mic? thx!

  • @Juanjolead Sure. It would work fine with any mic pre that has phantom power.

  • @RonansRecordingShow Thx a lot!! and very very nice vid btw! :)

  • i bought this mic because of this video. I love it! You are very persuasive!

  • Has anyone compared ksm 32 to Rode k2 ?

  • Would this microphone be any good for recording metal vocals and or metal guitar? If not what microphones would you recommend for metal? Thanks

  • @WaitforthesignalNC Sure it would. I have used it on some pretty heavy guitars, but I tend to prefer the SM57 for metal guitars

  • Ronan, I can't tell enough, how much I love this episode. I've watched it many times and wish for a pair of these for my studio here. My pair of KSM44"s continue to work well, But I almost like my KSM27 better for the reasons you talk about here sonicaly. I'm sure a pair of these are in my future. Thank you again...........keep more episodes coming!

  • I hate my sis she slice my with a knife I have no finger

  • love this mic! I'm with you on this one!

  • @lazyboreddrunk and? Whats up with your new mic? Tell me when u have tested it and maybe upload something to show the audio qual

  • n quick question!

i'll be using the mic to record acoustic guitar n vocals

    something like acoustic folk stuff

like kings of convenience/iron & wine/jack johnson etc.,

    n need a quiet/soft/warm sound...

would you still recommend the KSM32?

  • i was confused between the Blue Baby Bottle and the Shure KSM 32.....

i was hell bent on buying the baby bottle...bt u dnt get blue microphones where i live...

Shure mics r available though...ive decided to go for the KSM32 after watching your video...

i hope you are right abt the mic!

  • Ronan, please clean your mixer board ... wait, oh no, its my LCD ...

  • @RonansRecordingShow What´s your preference between the Shure KSM32 and the Neumann TLM102? My thoughts are to reproduce a clean smoth sound for vocals.

  • @nicolinoperrucho I have never used the TLM 102, but I like the KSM32 much more than the TLM 103

  • @RonansRecordingShow What about the new Shure KSM42 and/or KSM44A, do you think that for vocals they would do a better job than the KSM32?? If yes, which one would you pick up? Considering that my bugdet is up to $1000 is there anything better than the ones I mentioned?? Thanks a lot for you help!

  • @nicolinoperrucho I actually talk about this on the new episode of Ronan Recording Show (google it to find the site) but if its for your own vocal, you should really try them out on your own voice. For my own voice the KSM32 is better than my $2000 mics, but on other singers different mics sound much better.

  • @RonansRecordingShow do you the ksm32 would be good for rap vocals like drake wiz khalifa etc. you know that layed back smooth hiphop not the screaming lil jon type stuff just i got a m audio interface

  • Hmm, somehow or rather I feel, perhaps not what other feel, the base/kick drum didn't sound as good as I thought it would be...... It isn't really voiced out, like a bit muffled and that's not what I was quite looking for... Recommendation for good mice to capture the exact sound from whatever I'm recording from?

  • I TOTALLY agree on everything you're saying. I've been loving the KSM32 for the past 12 years or so. I can't find a source that doesn't sound good with it! On all my woodwinds, on brass, percussion, guitars.... Just amazing. And yes, a lot of engineers laugh about it and grab a 67. But I truly think this mic it's just one of the best designs of the past 20 years! :) cheers! oh, and it sounds good on kick drum too!

  • Hi! What would you recommend for "baritone" vocals? A KSM32, KSM42, or something else? Thanks for you attention, I can't wait to replace my Dynamic Shure PG58 for a condenser mic, lol.

  • Hi Ronan, thank you very much for your response. After your introduction I have now ordered my BEAUTIFUL crome KSM32 with PRESONUS AUDIO BOX interface that has 48v. I have also ordered a headphone ( AKG-K271 MKII ) and pair of monitors (KRK-Rokit RP8 G2 Monitor Speakers ). (Yep, Christmas seem to be early this year). I will let you know their performance together. They all will arrive next week. I am soooooo excited! Have a wonderful day and thanks again :)

  • Thanks for the introduction to this mic, Ronan!

Is Terry Bozzio's sample, eight minutes into the video, on an album somewhere that I can pick up?

  • @toolfrk1991 The Bozzio sample is from my own album that I am trying to finish. I have a great line up (Terry Bozzio, Pat Mastelotto, Tony Levin and Mike Keneally) but I am having trouble finding the time to finish it. If you are subscribed to any of my shows or channels I am sure I will announce when its done.-Ronan

  • Hey Ronan, deep question....

What do you think about the chinese imported mics like the MXL V67 being modded? I had one and there's people out there who mod these kind of mics to imitate the sound of higher end mics. I got mine modded and the reason was for it to imitate the sound of a Nuemann U87. I now realize i hate the "bright" sound because my "esses" come out very loud, and the darker end on this ksm32 sounds right for my voice

  • @lifelessorgangrinder I am certainly not against mic modding or anything, but the problem with many of the cheap mics is the capsule. So unless you are replacing the capsule, its a big uphill battle. That being said the MXL V67 is one of my favorite cheapo condensers. I actually use it from time to time on my sessions (rarely as a main mic though).

  • Hi Ronan i would like to ask you what is your opinion for a low budget (3600 $ + - .. ) home studio i have a new mac book pro and i need mics, audio interface,preamp..and i don t know what else to choose i am days and nights looking and looking..and i am confused..I use an awful korg stage piano but i have a good gibson guitar.! please help!(if you have the time of course..!)if you think it s too low don t be afraid to tell it ..

  • @anatol1204 For starters you could get something like the Apogee duet 2 and a couple nice mics. You could do that with half your budget. It would give you good quality sound and get you up and running Then as you gain more experience you can start to learn more about what you need to fit your personal taste.

  • -> but my problem is putting out the videos. In order to put them out I believe I have to use an interface(I am thinking of getting FIRE BOX Interface). But I was told that KSM32 does not work with every interface&every monitors. So if I buy it I need to know which interface&monitors (what brands) are best for KSM32 to work.I also am not sure if it can work with my old QOSMIO Laptop. In short, I am trying to create a HOME STUDIO and I really appreciate your expert opinion on this.Thank you :)

  • @msdutchess1987 The Shure KSM32 will work with any mic pre amp that has phantom power (or 48v power), So if you have an interface with a mic input and a phantom power switch, the KSM32 will work with it.

  • Hi Ronan,

Thank you for the response. I have a 2 years old QOSMIO Laptop. My videos are with images, animation, background music or they have power point presentations where I also talk at the background, they are created by using Camtesia software. So to get the videos into PC I use Camtesia Software but I also want to buy some quality monitors and shureKSM32 mic. to ensure the audio quality while I am recording my voice for the background of my videos. ---->continue

  • Hi Ronan,

I've seen your review on Shure KSM32, I would like to buy one but my question is can I use it with my PC (I would like to create quality educational videos with audio) and what sort of quality would I get. I am concern that even if the mic. is fine if the PC's speakers are mediocre the overall sound would be mediocre. Could you please let me know your opinion on this, thank you..

  • @msdutchess1987 You can use it with your PC, but you need some kind of interface to get the audio into the PC obviously. I would need to know more about how you are putting your educational videos together before I could answer the second part of the question.

  • From what I know, David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) used heavily this mic as his amp cab mic for his last solo tour. So, you're not alone claiming this mic is wonderful ;)

  • thank you for the video ..have you got a magic preamp example also?thanks again ..

  • @anatol1204 My favorite all around mic preamp is the A Designs Pacifica. Unfortunately its not a cheap as the KSM32 For low cost mic pres, my fave so far is probably the True Systems P-Solo

  • Hey Man, waht a interesting video.

Would you say that this Shure is similar or better than Neumann TLM103 for male voice? I am researching something to add to my home studio ...

  • @waltervenicio I am a big fan of the higher end Neuman mics, but I definitely prefer the KSM32 over the TLM103.

  • Yay, Shure!! We love Shure!!! Great love story - love the gushing, Ronan!! Hahaha!!!! :o)

  • Is this the Shure that Eddie Kramer helped develop?

  • @yobhsiFehT Yes. I did not know Eddie Kramer worked on it, but I was at the NAB conference this week and asked one of the guys from Shure if that was the case and he said "yes"

  • @RonansRecordingShow

Nice; all the more reason to love it;) Thanks! :D

  • Random hot blondes are acceptable rating boosters!

  • 15:20 That is total BS! About 7 years ago I bought a $100.00 AKG perception 100 condensor(Got 2 of them buy one get the other half off) They each came with the same screw on mic holder for free!! I don't know if the screw is the same size on the mic, but it's basically the same thing! Maybe I should sell them on ebay!

  • I may look at a couple of these, I am currently using a pair of KSM44"s for my drum overheads and I find them to be great. I also use a pair of matched KM184'S. I have to mention the new A Designs Nail is amazing! A lot of cool changes to the recording room latley. Thanks Ronan, You are appreciated! Great video!

  • Just got done doing a demo of shure's full collection for my AES district. I was blown away by the 32's performance. Them germans don't know whats up lol

  • I have not used that mic, but in my own work I usually try to stick to using one mic (usually a dynamic) on guitar amps,

  • do you have experience with the sE 2200a mic? i was thinking of getting one for recording electric guitar with the sm57 to tc konnekt 24d

  • Great mic, I started off using these. Even when I started getting more expensive mics I still kept using the KSM32

  • this is a good episode, go Ronan!

  • @mikepmh5000 What THE FUCK!?
