Lol I just beat her today. It was MAJOR luck. I never bothered to get the up arrow, so my partners were only regularly upgraded. My supply of Ultra Shrooms saved me. lol Idk how I'm gonna pull off beating Bonetail, considering I used all my Ultra Shrooms.. lol
I remember doing this a couple of years back with no Strange Sack and with only unavoidable battles so that the audience was as small as it could be at this stage of the game. It took me absolutely forever, but I finally won.
Ah you used one of the many low-level tactics I know of for this battle. Nice job though, I mean rather than relying on danger mario or some other messed up super bp blowout you played it out simply much like the first time I beat the game
Lmao, I remember this game. I beat it with 15 hp but was too scared to have it at 10. And now there's one just uploaded now and you pull this out? Nice job
If you get stuck on double Shine Sprites like that, you can use any non-damage-dealing move to give you the third, e.g. Tattle, Veil, Kiss Thief etc. Kiss Thief also has the added bonus of making the Shadow Queen think you attacked her while she's invincible.
@WayoshiM Yeah. Once per turn is fine. As long as you attack her at least once per turn, it ends after three turns. So, in turn 1 of invincibility you could switch to Ms. Mowz then use Kiss Thief which counts as an attack. Alternatively, you could attack her in turn 1, then switch partners, and in turn 2 use Tattle and attack her. In turn 3, switch back to the partner of choice and attack her, and the phase ends.
@avengah You know, I always thought you had to attack with both party members.
However, a) I did not have Ms Mowz; b) I do think it needs to be a physical attack attempt, not Tattle or maybe even not Kiss Thief (LOL at doing that on a boss).
@WayoshiM In order to make the phase end ASAP, you need to attack her once per turn. Tattle and Veil are no good in that respect, but Kiss Thief is fine - it counts as an attack. Risky though, as the bar needs to be completely full. However, to get a Bingo card, Tattle and Veil are fine. In this case, it didn't make much difference this time but that Shine bingo could have ended up saving you a Life Shroom. I've tried all these things myself, so I know it's right.
@WayoshiM Also another safer way to end the invincible phase with Quick Change (obviously no good in an OBPNBNLP run). Turn 1, attack with Mario and use Bobbery to fire Bomb Squad. Turn 2, switch to Vivian, attack with Mario then use Veil. Then the bombs will go off and it will end the phase. Also, the phase can end early if a Boo tries to make the Shadow Queen invisible - that counts as an attack and makes the phase one turn shorter. Basically anything that "disturbs" her counts as an attack.
YouTube could indeed stand a PHPR video series, I was amazed there wasn't one already. After seeing this, I can't imagine you'd have too much of a problem with that.
@dcook32p Pre-Hooktail Pit Run, which I mentioned at the tail end of the description - literally, completing the Pit before finishing Chapter 1.
It's really an ultimate challenge, you are forced to work with Fire Drive and using Heart Finder to put partners back into peril (1 HP) from death to do significant damage.
Someone called "mistermoogle" I think has a video up of technically doing this, but he's at Level 50 or something and spent 62 hours preparing...I would like to show this is dumb
All I have to say is WOW. I didn't think something like this was possible. I've watched videos where some didn't level up HP, leveled up FP once, and use tons of badges to beat her. You didn't level up HP, or FP, your partners, and didn't use a single badge. The impossible just became possible. Well done, I noticed you paused for a few seconds thinking what to do next, excellent strategy on attacks and items.
After carefully counting the damage, I've learned that I did EXACTLY 150 total damage. That means all of Vivian's burns, my carefully figuring out when her defense was too much for the partner to attack, when jumping was better than hammering due to Power Lift, managing double Spring Jump on a Power Lift thanks to a Shroom Roast...all those little things mattered!
With one Boo Sheet left, I barely scraped this one out, and I didn't get any HP sucking and just one breath...I feel Pretty Lucky.
Very nice. You have accomplished something I would have never tried without save states. I liked watching the hesitation between each move; it shows that you were thinking pretty hard about everything you were doing.
You're item distribution was spot on. One thought I had was bringing a repel cape or two in and risk it working for that extra turn, but otherwise there isn't any room for improvement.
@MilesLuigi I was checking my item count a lot, honestly, something I'm not used to doing (but you need to know where you stand on Life Shrooms).
The item distribution came from GameFAQs, after we discussed the logistics of this run a lot I think this was the overall recommended item set. One thing that caused me trouble a couple of years ago was I think I had 4 Shooting Stars cutting into my Shroom Roasts and Boo Sheets, and I can safely say now that was a big problem.
Vivian with fiery jynx is the best partner that you can have in this fight
