I've just listened again to Pippo and still feel that this is absolutely fantastic. Never mind his age or his slightly darker voice, he is still the statesman of tenors. I wish I had a voice like that.

Di stefano was great in his younger years but had to stop early in life. His world tour with Callas in 1973/1974 showed up his now untrained and careless technique. Then something happened. He came back to concert after polishing his tecnique and sang with a new statesman-like poise and warmth. Bravo Di Stefano

el mayor de los respetos, aunque si es cierto que su voz natural fue opacada rapidamente por sus propios errores como por ejemplo el querer hacer cosas que su voz no estaba preparada y que en cambi o otros lo hacian maravillosamente bien y sin esfuerzo.

Lo que si se, es que fue y es una de las mas grandes voces que existió y va a existir, sumado a un gran interprete, apasionado y sanguíneo, No es poca cosa, no? Le doy gracias a Dios por habernos regalado, 20 -25 años de alguien increíble.

Muchos tenores y algunos de los mas grandes fueron fumadores,ejemplo Enrico Carusso fumaba 2 paquetes de cigarrillos diarios,.ya se me va a decir si, pero fue Caruso, Mario lanza tambie era fumador, y la lista sigue.lo de el fue por hacer papeles que no eran para su voz.solo eso.

Pippo atribuia su deterioro vocal al cigarrillo... claro, Caruso era fumadorazo, pero se murio antes de cumplir 50!! y Lanza a los 38!! Diferentes personas tienen diferentes constituciones y el cuerpo reacciona de diferente manera en cada uno, Si DiStefano dice que fuel el cigarrillo, el cigarrillo sera, atte.

Thats a myth. He had great technique for the lyric repertoire. His early recordings attest to that. But he never made the adjustment in terms of body power once he crossed over to the heavier verismo repertoire. So he was pitting his breath against his lyric voice which, although producing spectacular results, shortened his career. At least he burned brightly.

Very touching...The Bjorling family wanted him to com and celebrate this Memorial consert 1985..It was just so nice of them all. Robert Merril, James mc Cracken, N. Gedda. Birgit Nilsson and many many other...It was just such a great consert.

e cherto Di Stefano fue perdiendo la voz a causa de una mala eleccion del repertorio, eligiendo papeles dramaticos y spintos, poco a poco, va perdiendo la voz, hasta quedar reducido a esto

su epoca fue 1950- 1965, durante este periodo si que era grande, concidiendo asi con la Callas. Pippo llego muy lejos con su fraseo impecable y su estabilidad y belleza en la voz, pero se arruino la voz en un intentovor dotarla de mas volumen y resonancia

En alusión a lo dicho por "radiologist", si bien es cierto que él cantaba a veces "aperto", la razón real de la ostensible pérdida de su maravillosa voz, se debió a que cuando se accidentó Mario Del Mónaco, él tomó, irracionalmente, todos los compromisos de éste de corte "spinto o dramático", adicionalmente a los suyos de corte "lírico", forzando en demasía su cristalina voz.
