  • This is the Aries separator trawl that the Marine Lab in Aberdeen developed in 1987. The lower half if a prawn net with the upper half in much larger mesh to let Haddock and Whiting which are too small escape. This would have cut Discards dramatically but politics got in the way and this had to be left as an interesting trial and left at that.

  • Awesome video guys! I'm a spanner crab fisherman so it doesn't really apply to me. I'll have to splice and narrate my videos to bring them up to this standard.

    While the action of trawling is bad for the environment, this is a really good bycatch reduction device whilst also being a catch separator. Well thought out and presented. I'll show my neighbour who makes trawls for australian saucer scallop and prawn. Thankyou.
