@sezzie78 Thanks. it really depends on the look I'm going for.  Sometimes I use medium brown and sometimes I use dark brown. I find that the 'auburn' shades don't really suit my other makeup, most of the time. :)

2. How long do you set your hair for with hot curlers vs. perm rods?

@norahsaurus perm rods are a 'cold set'...they require all night or at least until dry (since you spray the sections w/ water before rolling). Hot Rollers are quicker, you just wait until the set is cooled before removing rollers. But they don't have the same look at all.

@meishel12 I use Lottabody Setting Lotion you find at Sally's. Make sure to follow directions for diluting and mixing.

Oh! I love this so much!! I'm going to try it but not confident I can pull it off. I've been pin curling my long hair but it doesn't stay :( Is your hair in layers or just all one length? Mine is basically one length but I would get it cut in layers. I have to get some of those perm rods! I have always wondered if you could use those to curl hair besides using them for perms. @CandiceErika It's very hard to do these styles on longer hair, since longer hair wasnt really in fashion during the 1940's and 50's. And it takes a wet set forever to dry! I am getting very very sick of it and can't wait to cut it off!

@elizabethxoxoxo I like to go for an authentic curl so I rarely use a curling iron unless it's just to create volume. Curling iron curls don't stay in my hair unless I do a dry pin curl (like in the Jean Harlow video).
