@FullmetalFan500 - Yes this amp is good for a live show. But this amp has been discontinued. If you get lucky you can find a used one for $250 to $300. Mashall is now producing the MG4 Series MG100HFX and MG102FX which are even better. A must have with these amps is the upgraded Stompware Guitar Footcontroller Footswitch
@FullmetalFan500 take it this way. me and a friend went to guitar center. there had to be at least ten or twelve guys plugged in just jammin. the guy went in the drum room, completely seperate from the main floor, he still heard me. i was nn four.
all you people are retarded. This line of amps is perfectly capable of producing a whole slew of nice and heavy tones. You don't need any fancy effects running through a marshall amp, it defeats the purpose of getting one. These engineers have studied hard and done their homework. And by the way, cutting through the mix is more about volume instead of treble and. Too much treble makes you sound like a snake is hooked up to your amp (hisssssss).
can i get an intense sound like this with the 250dfx? i cant seem to get that metal sound with it. and i even used a boss mt2 metal zone and still not that great
what is tube amp?? what is valve amp?? please answer me and tell me how do you call in english an amp like this one (it needs a baffle to play it) and a normal amp of 15, 30, 50 watts
I'm probably way too late but i had to give my opinion.
Marshall for sure!! I've tried a line 6 spider IV and i hated it! Couldn't get any nice tones out of it! I couldn't even get the volume right, everytime i changed te amp models the volume totally screwed up (and almost ruined my ears)! Just my opinion though....
Throw away your metalzone or sell it on craigslist. I had one for my last amp, sounded great (i thought). Then I got a marshall mg 100 head and cab, and I tried so hard to make my metal zone match its tone, but I couldn't. Let the amp do all the talking. Congratulations, you have outgrown all your distortion pedals!
If you want to really improve your sound get a BBE sonic maximizer. makes this amp sound sick when you have it on with the effects loop mix at about half
yes yes and yes. I regularly play all you listed through mine. It emulates all thrash metal tones perfectly. for kill 'em all, turn up the mids to 1oclock and contour to 11 oclock. for master of puppets, turn the treb up to 1 oclock and turn mids down to 11 oclock, and turn up contour to 3 oclock. Keep the gain at 4 oclock.

Guys to slove all your problems. My Marshall is kick ass (as many of you know) but I use a line 6 pod to improve the tone and give awesome effects. It is a killer combo and i highly reccommend it. cheers. =D
imbecil!, marshall quality does not compare with that of line 6. 6 is the mixing line of amplifiers so if you would be taking you shopping so bad copies of other amplifiers for: TheForgetfulPast91
this amp fucking blows. i have it and its hi-gain channel is just fucking awful. i hate it with every part of me. go with a line 6 100 watt. save cash and get a better amp
Line 6 amps suck balls... they copy amps and if your a musician doing gigs and writing your own songs marshall is the way to go.. if your replicating other bands then i guess line 6 would be good but only for that... I have a line 6 and i hate it.... Waste of $500
@ViGMetal i might just get a Vox full stack cuz they kinda suit me more, plus it will go great with my Les Paul black beauty.. but i will get more amps later cuz the more the better
@jay3213 the line 6 is good to use for an extreme metal sound, but all of my buds who have a line 6 say that their amp is like falling apart basically. I've been heavily looking at this amp, and i have an offer to buy a used one for real cheap. should i go for it?
@r4pt0rP5K Last weekend I was off to buy a new amp for rehearsals. I tried a Marshall MG102FX and a Line6 Spider IV 150 right after one another. I am a huge, huge line6 fan, and have owned line6 stuff for over 4 years now, so I should know how to set them up - nevertheless the Spider IV had the most horrible tone I ever heard in my life. I tried the rpesets and I tried to set up something myself, but it was NEVER a match for the Marshall... sad but true, so to say ;-)
@SomethinWild Well I have an old Marshall MG100DFX sitting right beside me and I've tried the 75W version of the Spider IV at guitar center and got a few much better tones. Either way, Engl PowerBall II ftw.
@r4pt0rP5K I agree on the PowerBall (or the FireBall, both are awesome), although for me the Diezel Einstein or the 5150 win the race. Krank amps can sound killer, too.. oh, and the MesaBoogie TripleRec-a lot of options to choose from.
Back to the Spider: I tried it for 15 minutes only, so maybe my opinion is not completely valid. I was tweaking it around and tried the first 30 presets too (with an Ibanez Artist) and was about to cry how digital and thin it sounded. Need to give it a second try.
@SomethinWild Well whenever I go to try out amps I spend about an hour there messing with all the settings. The employees don't like that very much though. But the last time I went I used a Jackson Kelly KE3 and got a lot of good tones by tweaking the presets a bit. The best thing to do is to know what some of the presets are before you try it out then find those specific ones and try playing with those first.
@jay3213 I dont agree at all, I own a Spyder MKII 40w with lamps and I blow the shit out of those new Marshalls I thonk that the Line 6 SolidState series sucks .
@jay3213 I know man, I regret ever wanting the one I got. It sounded good at first but now I don't like it. I have the same one you have and I wish I would have gotten this amp instead but at the time I wasn't ready for a Stack yet but now I wish I would have anyway! Marshall slays Line 6 anyday day of the week and any week of the year!
@Max45090 Line 6 doesn't suck. Neither does Marshall, though I don't care for the MG series. Line 6 has some brutal stuff, and it's what I record with (Pod Farm). Marshall though, is a bit more straight forward... but you'll sound like everyone else in the music industry with one lol
@Max45090 Line 6 sucks. Especially the Spider series. Their distortion sounds like a swarm of bees inside a tin can. It's incredibly unpleasant. They sound mediocre at best (even with a good OD/distortion pedal) I'm so glad I managed to sell my Spider...
Matthew100706613 are you kiddin ? :O just make sure your settings are proper this amp is good for anythin its great ,monster amp :d make sure its on overdrive 2 master volume is at 8 contuor at half or bit more gain 8 or 9 and the other settings you choose
this amp is horrible for metal, i have one, and over the 2 or 3 years ive had it, ive tried about every EQ setting combinations possible, they all sound terrible, if you plan on gigging or playin in a band or anything, or just want a better tone for metal that can also play a variety of other stuff, the check out the peavey 3120, its amazing
dont like this tone for metal at all sorrry. I bet youve never played wih a band. YOu woldnt cut through the mix at all cause your missing treble and mids
