  • Man if i had the extra cash id buy one right now but i just lost my job so its just not in the budget right now, great videos tho and i love your style of playin

  • @bclr555 Thank You! yea, I have to charge what I think is too much 'cause nobody's givin' away the parts I need to make these gal darned thingees. hahahaha.

  • How much would you sell one for?!?!

  • @bclr555 If I had an extra one that I wanted to sell, I might let it go for $250 ish

  • I am looking for a canned ham with a can big enough to make myself a Hamjo. I don't know what I am going to do with the ham, but I know what I will do with the can!

  • @nancejo Zacky will eat the ham.. hahahaha

  • GREAT!!!

  • I have a question, How did you get the neck to stay on the oilcan? Thank you, Awsome videos

  • @CrimsonTalonTerror1 There's a bolt that was put through the original banjo as a dowell rod. I just trimmed it down and put it through the can..

  • I woul like to have one of those, they are owesome

  • awesome - just awesome!

  • my top pick was a Epiphone MB-200 Banjo They are on sale at guitar center for 250 I sat down and played one while my sis was checking out new acoustic guitars and it just felt right. I researched that style and I think its a good pick. Any suggestions? or if you know of the model any drawbacks to it?

  • @Neba1976 No, I haven't played one, but if it feels right to you then it is right.. Good luck with it.

  • My sister who has been playing the guitar for two years has told me not to learn the banjo cause its very hard and I will lose interest but you sir are the main reason I don't think I will ever stop wanting to learn this instrument. I am going to buy my first Banjo this weekend and want to thank you for the inspiration. One day when I get a wood working shop together and can take the time to make one maybe I will follow your lead and make one. Thanks again.

  • @Neba1976 Sweet. What you buying?

  • hey Rpeek, first of all, love all your vids, cuz of you i enjoy hearing (you playing) banjo

and love the dam rat hod xO how far are you in her works?? cant wait to see her finished

Now on subject x) : Ho did you fix the cords?? i see a fork

  • @Idinatan Just bent a fork and hung the loop end strings over the bent tines.. Nothin' to it. The hot rod is resting in the cold, for now. Too cold to be out in the garage, but I'll get to doin' some work to her before the spring..

  • i think i love you

  • @BrunoEspo Me too you too.. Anyone that plays clawhammer uke is cool!

  • I must say, you are a master of stop-motion animation :)

  • yup whats ure reguler g mail I go some thin I want to talk to ya about

  • Comment removed

  • Someday I'm going to undertake this project myself. I think that I can make out all of the steps from the video. A question about the fork. though: did you simply bend the tines into hooks? How are the string loops attached to it? And how did you attach the fork to the can? That's more than one question. Sorry! Thanks for the video!

  • @cmezak I've got 10 vids up on how to make a gas can banjo. But to keep it simple, yea I bend the tines and slip the strings over. The 5ths string always breaks before the 4th strings, so I put both those on the same time, but with the 5th on top. I drill a hole in the fork and put the screw through it through the can, into the dowell stick, or as in this case, with a metal rod, put the metal rod through it.

  • i need to make something like that thats it talented

  • i Just finished making my own oil can banjo from your excellent guide. Thanks so much for the advice. It is such a nice feeling to play an instrument that i made myself, even if my frailing is not too hot yet. Thanks again - sam

  • Yea, I totally dig it... Checked it out. It's a beautiful thing, sounds great! Good Job!

  • Wow, that's amazing! Very creative, dude. You have a lot of talent lol.

  • I thought maybe you put in a sound post, but I guess not - the can can hold up without collapsing and crumpling.

  • I put a sound post in the last one I made. When I made this banjo I didn't know what a sound post was.. Someone on youtube informed me. The can holds up pretty well, but the post helps it not to crunch as much.

  • I just saw an oil can electric guitar the other day..... and i have wanted to build my own ever sence... any pointers? i figure putting together the pick ups, and all the electronics would be the easy part what has puzzled me was how you got the neck and the bridge on, and then kept them stable if you get the time i would like to hear from you

    thanks

  • Well, a banjo has a rod. Truss rod or on the old ones a wooden dowel stick. I just poke a hole in the can and stick that through and attach it on the other end. The string pressure holds the bridge in place, just like it does on a banjo. It's not that hard. I'm going to build one online in a bit.

  • Nice work, but I would like to know what's the video song to learn it. Thanks. Luca

  • It's just a song I made up. The first thing to come out of the can.. Thanks..

  • thats cool. ive been thinking of building a banjo. would i have to get actual banjo strings for it or could i use a set of guitar strings i got?

  • If the guitar strings are the right size they'll work. You'll need a couple of first strings, one for the first string and one for the 5th string. They're both the same size. Other than that, I think the first through the 4th are the same, or pretty darned close. Go for it and let me know how it works out...

  • cool, ty for the tips.

  • did you make up the tune?

  • Yep, did..

  • its beautiful, ive worked it out on my banjo except im missing a top string and i can only play with a pick! that clawhammer style is really hard, i must find a teacher

  • Sweet. Good for you... Banjos have so many different styles, and they're all great.

  • the music in this video is beautiful, thanks

  • Thank You!

  • i could listen to the sound of that instrument all day long...

    Ham

  • Well, thank you!

  • I like the sound of this instrument a lot. I can imagine people sitting back on a porch, cool summer evening, playing away to nobdoy in particular. Really nice!

  • Thank You. Yea, it's got a good sound, for a can..

  • very nice, you are a master !!!

  • Yeah. A ghost pickin in the fog on the porch in the swamp at about half past midnight. Just at the time when the wind is even a'skeerd to blow.

That sound is far too cool for words.

    Unearthly.

I need to figure out how to make one now.... and then learn to play it.

    Well done!

  • Geez thanks! I love that story and the idea of it.. Thanks for that.. Maybe I should call it ghost pickin..

  • the oil can is soft and eirry... like a ghost pickin in the fog... love it.

  • That's a nice mental picture. I like it. Thanks. I can see that..

  • I don't see the making of the banjo. It just shows you.

  • Sir, you are as swift as a hummingbird.

  • Thank You..

  • The stop photos were cool how you made this video!

  • Your video finally got posted here. I'm glad for that. I do the stop action with the timer on my camera. Shoots 10 in a row, then a use a program called Vegas Movie Studio to string them all out in quarter second intervals, or less.. Thanks.

  • is it 4 string?

  • No, it's a 5 string..

  • good job. how much time did you spend to build your first one?

  • Couple hours maybe.. Just to kind of figure it out.

  • where do you get the old banjos to build these things. Thats the problem I have is aquiring the instrument neck to build em

  • ebay..

  • Make your own, a good wood plane, and clamp to shave it a way, You can see one of mine i made (not playing)@ hoodoocanjo on u-tube. I made the tuners out of nails...

  • Wonderful, really inspiring, like your approach to things.

    Just one question:

What is the name of the song you are playing?

    I love it!

  • I don't think I gave it a name, just made it up. We could call it "Just Made Up." I like the sound of that..

  • good work i wish i could give u 1000000000000000000000000 stars awsome job dude

  • I love that video! like stop motion animation. visual art being the creation of aural artform.... that could be entered for the turner prize here in the UK. got to be the best homemade instrument vid on youtube! playing it so well ties the whole thing up wonderfully. a real pleasure to watch

  • Thank you so much. I was just goofin' off on a day off and havin' fun. Thanks for the compliment..

  • very good!

  • Dude! THAT is CRAFTAY!!!

  • ha ha ha

  • Is that you playing? It sounds fantastic. As a guitarist i love the finger picking style of the banjo. Keep up the good work.

  • Yep, that's me, playing the oil can..

  • great old man

  • that's got a really nice, bright sound to it. well done!

  • That's a great suggestion. I'm going to work on that. Thanks..

  • One morning a man tells a coworker that her hair smells nice. The woman gets enraged, storms into her supervisors office, and declares shes filing a sexual harassment suit.

Come on, says the supervisor. Whats wrong with a guy telling you your hair smells nice?

    Hes a fuckin' midget!

  • Want to try a great duet? Click on my video response above. You will NOT be disappointed.

  • What the f*** was wrong with the real banjo you wrecked?

  • I love you?

  • wow impressive..

  • i was expecting the credits to scroll down at 20 miles per hour at the end.

  • its the still frame. it makes everything creepy

  • That is something to see. Not bad would like to know if you sell the Banjos or are collecting them.

    Carl Vogel

  • I sort of buy and sell and generally mess around with them, as a hobby. Love old and interesting banjos. Also love home made or made out of junk.

  • santa claus?

  • that would sound amazing with a slide, a little blues action

  • How do you deal with the little fifth string?

  • why did you take apart your banjo and make a shittier one

  • lmao you are now my new hero

  • just watch the other video:

How to make an oily can 'homemade vagina'. Hint: use your drillpress

  • Cool, really rich sound...

  • People do all kinds of things to explore new ideas. This guy may be living in a house he made from grabage cans but I hope he doesn't show that video or bedroom video.

  • very cool! has a nice sound to it!

  • why are there so many naysayers on youtube...Hey all you dreamsuckers do something creative like this guy and stop flappin your gums....Its too easy and shows no intelligence whatsoever....Good job bud

    Niiice.

  • Nice!

  • Great job it sounds great

  • Thats cool :) I have a friend who plays a hand Saw

  • ok...

  • awesome!!

  • that's so cool, and it sounds really good too!

  • Very nice!

  • KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

  • He is not to retarded he made a banjo out of an oil can when most people pay a hundred dollars and more for one

  • cristy0435 - Um. Did you WATCH the video? xD He didn't make a banjo out of an oil can and save a big bunch of money. He dismantled an already functional banjo to "make" this thing.

  • That's awesome. My dad used to build banjos. I want to try now!

  • Sounds awesome -- and even better, I love the "stop-motion" style of the video. Definitely a cool technique. Do you have someone taking pictures every few seconds while you do this or is the camera on a timed interval?

  • Just used the timed camera thingee while putting the banjo together, then played the song and put it all together..

  • it sounds better then a real banjo

  • ummmm...no offense santa, but can i have a real banjo for christmas instead?

  • Betcha..

  • i dont buy it. a banjo dont have 6 strings. idiot.

  • thats to sick man..

  • hey buddy

I have a question for you i was planing on making an independent movie.

do you mind letting me use your music in this clip?

  • watch rpeek's other video to see how he made his inflatable wife. (hint: that's why he uses so much oil and a "drillpress")

  • That song sounds cool...

  • Love the canjo! There seems to be a kind of an interesting metallic ring about it. Great song too. Kind of has the feeling of a mysterious and haunting presage. Is it an original? Maybe you could make a garbage can bass get a washboard and start a skiffle band.

  • lio = anagram of oil. LOL..

  • I bet nobody else go that.

  • spiral

  • You might be a redneck if ......

  • this is neat!

  • Thanks. Just for fun..
