respectable version ! strange that not one of the great bands of the sixties played this grand piece! it is one of the best blues songs of all time and one of the best of elmore. you got a good raw guitar playing there!
Thank you Buchanan for your kind comment! Buchanan in SF? Really? I had the impression that a lot of people have done this since. Didn't Greeny's Mac do it in 60s?
hm...yes, I have seen that a few did it, among them slowhand clapton, in an unbearably shallow and castrated version, awful. this always was my favourite song of elmore james who is - to me - the best of the best of the best blues singers ever. and there WERE great ones. furry lewis is another great I recently discovered, and of course jimmy witherspoon, sonny boy williamson, the early ( and some of the late) john lee hooker and dont forget jim morrison and jimi hendrix as singers!
roy buchanan enlightened me back into the blues when I was turning my back to it ...you cant escape the blues, haha!!! also , and you will be surprised, the ALLMAN BROTHERS have a few unbelievably strong blues numbers like END OF THE LINE and GAMBLER´S ROLL, these guys dig their blues, man!
have you seen those great slide sessions on youtube with eric clapton and duane allman? it comes in five parts and it is mastery! those were the days when the slowhand wasn´t that slow .... uuuuargh! great subtlety and beautiful guitar madness there! it is time for a new revival of all this, we are fed up with the musical junk food they ooze out of radios, mobile phones, cds and tv - throw that away - or at least turn it off whilst I am near, hahahahahaha!!!!!!
that still there is some soul around here who honours the memory and the heritage and the quality of a man like elmore james, this makes my heart sing out and makes me feel that maybe there is still hope for mankind, after all .... :)))
Thank You! Mmmm. I'm not sure. Looks like brass tho' now that you mention it. It's the same color all the way thru! It must be brass. In the 60s these things were not available. I had to go to a hardware store and have them cut me off a piece of steel conduit! The rough edges used ta really chew up my fingers if I put it on the wrong way!
Yeah. I just bought it in a store in Boulder CO. I probably didn't think about it. I tend to like warmer colors. Please remember, this is a studio performance, so you must take into account the machine, settings, EQ, etc. But, yeah, I would guess brass would be slightly mellower. I mean, now they just have everything you could ever want. Glass, blue glass, beveled glass, blue beveled glass..uh yer gonna need a compressor with that. It wasn't a consumer industry when I came up!
Thank You so much! Great suggestion! Actually, after 40 years it was more like an 'agonizing re-appraisal!' It feel's go to see it up and my friend's enjoying it !!!
Awwww Yaaaa... great vocals too and slide 4 stars

I saw the Allman's live twice in 60s; once in '69 with Duane and again in '70 after his demise.

Elmor James, just perhaps one of the greatest Blues players EVER!

I've only ever seen chrome and glass. Seems to be a slightly mellower tone. Could be my imagination I guess.
