  • Were any of you idiots even ALIVE when this song came out? I was 8 years old, and yes, a phone call was a dime then. "I called her up, when I got a dime...I said hello baby....she said ain't you cool." LMFAO !! I LOVED this song as a kid. My babysitter, Belinda, was 15 or 16, it was her favorite song, and I was in LOVE. LOL...

  • @Alcohollica1966 Nah, sadly. Good song though.

  • I suppose nine people really DON'T like spiders & snakes! lol :D

  • I had this song, along with many other humorous li'l ditties, on a Ronco album called "Funky Favorites". "My Ding-a-ling", "Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah", "Leader of the Laundromat" & "Yummy-yummy" were amongst the tracks on it... I haven't seen it in years, and all those amusing old hits are here! Thank-you, dear posters... for helping me recover a piece of my sorely-missed childhood.

  • @nickelindimer I had that album too! Got it from my older uncle. They don't make music like this anymore. Thank heaven for youtube to keep the oldies alive! Don't forget Little Red Riding Hood!

  • Everything about it is great.

  • I'll see you after school, come on over here1

  • I just love it.. woo hoo!!

  • Yes, a pay phone in the 70s was a dime for a local call.

  • jim stafford spiders and snakes is one of my favorite songs gijoe989.

  • Wow....so young

  • I think the "make it perfectly clear" line has to do with Richard Nixon, who used to say that and was in big trouble at the time this came out...

  • phone calls used to cost a dime remember that? i do

  • @gzrmember1976 im pretty sure hes not talking about the phone call being a dime.

  • @Xxlmfaox lyric is id call her up when i got a dime. in 1974 a pay phone reqired a dime to make a single phone call. so i am pretty sure you are wrong. but im pretty sure you know jim stafford on a personal basis so im pretty sure he would tell what the true meaning of the song lyric the next time you go over to his house.

  • @gzrmember1976 oh cool idk where you came up with the idea that i knew him in real life but you know youre like a jim stafford pro and since i care so much about what the lyrics say im going to rage now because you told me im wrong, thanks

  • fifth grade, 1974

  • This was a pretty daring song for the times; we all knew what the song was insinuating! Those raging hormones can get you in trouble if your not careful! Marylou's dad might come down the road with his shotgun, if you touched his precious daughter! Peace, BobbyK

  • I've been dredging up songs from my memory and remembered Spiders and Snakes. I'm looking for another song, I was sure was from JS but haven't found it... if anyone can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

"You can go to a hotel, motel, back street, side street, up town, down town, gray hound all around. You don't have to go home but you can't stay here."

Thought it was JS but haven't found it using those words. Thanks in advance. :D

  • @Farandahl I believe you might be looking for the Oak Ridge Boys

  • @rdubsworld Thanks for the heads up. I'll check it out. :D

  • she don't like spiders and snakes but it was a frog he shook at her she never said anything about frogs hmmm lol

  • Nice one.

  • some time back that one....great song

  • I don't like Muslims and Jews!! XD (I'm not against Jews, I just thought my parody was funny).

  • @lovehamsters14

Your "parody" was extremely lame, immature, and retarded. Don't ever post anything on youtube again.

  • @kingfarticus Oh, Shut up. I was just joking. P.S. Your user name, "kingfarticus" is imature and retarded as well. YOU don't post things on youtube again. Get a life!!!!

  • @lovehamsters14

Darn, I was hoping you'd go in a corner and cry! I'll get it right next time

  • @kingfarticus I'm tougher than that.

  • @lovehamsters14 Whatever made me think of this song, don't know -- now here it is, with sound quality & all !! -- and your "parody": made me remember the Lobbyists' Party, at end of yearly meeting of state legislature, lobbyists & legislators would join in lampooning bills that passed, and bills that didn't pass, and joke on Everything, to foster harmony, humor, and a common bond. After the joke, everyone would chorus, "All in fun. All in fun!" That phrase, for your Parody - !!

  • A classic for sure!

  • Dig it! Always liked this song hipboots!

  • blast from the past :)

  • A Great Classic

  • wow another great video on utube

  • what happened to this cuite pie

  • @snowdove1111 Branford Missouri doing shows weekly..

  • @da324 I meant Branson Missouri. I camp in Brandford Fla a lot.

  • This reminds me of many happy car trips when my entire family would sing along to Jim Stafford. Good times. Too bad we don't talk anymore. . . .Jim had a great voice--one of a kind talent. We could use his originality today what with all these "idols" everywhere. Yuck.

  • What kind of moronic asshole gave this a thumbs down? Did they accidently hit the wrong button?

  • I always thought the guy in the song really missed the boat with Mary Lou...LOL. I also thought this was hard rock when it first came out.

  • Love that naughty guitar sound!

  • Loved Stafford's way of entertaining. One of a kind and miss him. Would love to hear his Swamp Witch again..

  • The guy in the song sure was clueless, wasn't he? LOL!

  • Yes I do....wonderful memories come rolling back listening to this :)

  • wow!! unbelievable sound quality!!!!!

  • He wrote the best songs!! Hahahahah

  • a cool florida song sung by a native Floridan I sang this cool song in 1974 to my sexy florida girlfriend at that time .this song brings back excellent memories of a early 20s male female relationship . i still sing spiders and Snakes 36 years later .

  • Too bad that Jim Stafford only did a couple of albums. He is an awesome performer and just total fun.

  • I've loved this song ever since I was a kid when it first came out

  • I heard this song in the 70s on the hit music pop station WABC music radio..always loved the intro.

  • Song was written by Jim Stafford and Dave Bellamy of The Bellamy Brothers

  • This was a pop song back then .....never heard it on country, though it should'a been.

It sounds like Jerry Reed's stuff...(which was also mostly pop).

  • Superb, thanks for posting.

  • Great classic fun tune!!! Doesn't Jim look like Don Johnson in this pic?

  • Jim Stafford may have country roots, but this song falls into the catagory of pop, not country.

  • memory from my childhood!

  • this rock or country?

  • @TheFoppa123 This is country.

  • @14mbs rock fan here

  • @TheFoppa123 I'm a rock fan also. But Jim Stafford is country. There are some country songs with a little bit of rock in it. Take southern rock, iy's a mixture of rock country and some blues depending on the group. Allman Bros are a good example.

  • thanks for posting. blast from the past!

  • thank you so much i have ben looking for this song

  • thanks for posting, loved this one to

  • Loved it then, love it now. What a great songwriter!

  • Saw his show last week in Branson. He's 66 years old and just as entertaining as he was 35 years ago. Loved his show....highly recommended!

  • I don't like Spiders & Snakes!!! Not in My House!

  • @TheRoyalMommy Will if you don't like spiders and snakes then you like insects and rodents. Because spiders get rid of insects and snakes get rid of rodents.

Also spiders are arachnids not insects.

  • Modern day "musicians" follow formulas more making songs and at least 99% of these songs are simplistic although they do take some talent to make being the average person would not be able to make a decent one. However they still fall short of the more intellectual and meaningful symphonic music that the general public has for the most part left behind. Rediscover classical music and you will see what it does for you.

  • @MrBEB123 The more should read for, its a typo. You can't change or delete these posts once they have been made.

  • @MrBEB123 so you are telling me that it takes more talent to make this song than it would take for maybe metallica or chevelle. because this song reminds me of the simplicity that I hate in country music. The only thing this has going for it is the awesome guitar riff.

  • @MrBEB123 ...music fits the ones listening to it. If you don't like this, go somewhere else and listen to your music.
