I notice sometimes it errors out when charging but then I just turn it on, or turn it off. Its wacky. If it fails one way, I just flip the switch and it works. A good bet is not to let it run down and store it on the cradle.
I had the same problem but after leaving it twice over the night charging the problem got fixed. in the meanwhile i got a spare battery from ebay. damn..
Definately too much work for most people. Same problem that was easily fixed when I opened up the mouse. Now, if you do this, be sure to pay attention as to where everything originally was, so you can put it back the same way. All you need is a screw driver and it takes maybe 10 minutes (slow = careful). I opened my MX and noticed a piece of aluminum floping around close to the base and the metal recharging pads. This is it. just bend it out a bit, put everything back, and recharge.
Im sure smacking the mouse is just a coincidence, The actual prob is the cheap charging dock. 30Ohms of resistor fixed my mouse and many others by following the cooperbills correct way of fixing the error =)
The chargers voltage is incorrect and the mouse detects this and shows the error the only permement fix is doing it properly.
there is nothing wrong with the recharging dock. the voltage is correct. the problem is the aluminum 'resister' that is poorly seated within the mouse (attached to the caseing).
LOl it does work by gentle slamming it on the desk top!! who would have ever thunked?? Logitech want ed to give a the new version of the Revolution, I read not too many people happy with the new version, it does not have the thumb wheel. Other wise it suposedly charges while in use.
Yep I did the exact same thing (also mine was refurb too) so I knew I wasn't goign to be able to get it fixed by Logitech. I found this guys site by adding the resistors and bingo, it charges. But I have to keep the power switch on the mouse ON for it to take a charge. Flipping it off went back to the red light crap (after a minute or so)
If you register it, go through the Logitech customer support, then it does not matter if it is refurbished, Logitech support will most likely ask if you want them to send you a new one. the problem is the little flap of aluminum that acts as a resister, or charge siphon, that is connected to the caseing is flimsy and does not stay seated.
Ok, the slaming worked for a while, but then the problem would still persist after slamming. So I opened the mouse up (4 screws under rubber pads) and took a look a the battery. My battery is connected to the curcuitry with a small 4 pin connector. It was obviously not pushed into the socket far enough. I pulled it out and then reconnected it, pushing it in all the way. THREE weeks now and charging and mouse operation as been flawless!
So ya, i looked at a lot of vids on this problem, screw radio shack, just take your mouse and slam it on the desk flat end down, the mouse takes a charge now.

Give your mouse a simple "gentle" slam on your desk and put it back on the charger...it worked for me...if you don't believe me go to google and type "easy fix for logitech mx revolution not charging"...it's the phototropic website and if you read the posts you'll see that it worked for many as well...but I do advice you don't slam your mouse too hard for obvious reasons...hope this helps
Martiallink your idea worked for me nice one lol i shit myself coz after id twatted it down nothing happened when putting it on the cradle but after 10 seconds it started to charge and no red light after a few minutes :)
I'd just finished sending a nasty message to the guy that sold it me on ebay aswell.
i think tha the problem is caused by rust? because it looks like the two "plaques" are very dirty on mine and i have to use my nail to scratch them to get it to work...
Just to let yu know, i went to the shop again, they tested and agreed that there was something wrong with the mouse. whitout any further questions asked they gave me a new one =D
I bought the mouse today and when i wanted to charge it, the only thing it did was starting with the little green lights, moveing to the top, and after that giving me a red low battery sign all the time. Anyone know this problem, and knows how to fix this? or should i jus go to store?
just did the mod to my charger so far so good. The inside of mine was a little different than shown, there is no chipset where the wire exits the base. I folled the directions and it still worked. Thanks for posting and linking this fix.
God Damnit it's gone back to it's same old ways! Luckily I rang Dell and got them to send me a replacement before I tried the fix! The fix worked for a short while but now it is having the same problem as before (Red flashing led)! I'm gonna try cleaning the contacts some more to see if that works but I think it's a waste of time! To the guy who posted this vid is your MX still charging normally? I have the 240volt AC adapter do you think maybe that's the problem?
I have just tried this fix and at first it still had same problem but after I turned it on then put it back on the cradle voila it started to charge! Having it turned on must lower the mouse batteries resistance and makes the mouse charge!
I've tried cleaning the contacts on mine as well. It worked the first few times, but soon stopped working for me. This resistor fix resolved it for me. Thanks to whoever figured it out!
I may take back my last statement... I just finished the project 30 min or so ago and for the first 15 it didn't work but now seems to be charging. I've been watching for a few min and it switch to taking a charge. I will update if it changes again.
I have gone through 3 of these already. The first one I had lasted a good 4 months then gave me this error. I returned it and got a new one which lasted a week before this error. The third did a week as well so I decided to try this fix. It was a bust for me. Followed all the directions and no luck. I'm mad at myself because I don't know if I can return it now.
Same situation here..How did you get in touch with the customer service? Was it the local or is there an international e-mail adress you can use? I only found telephone numbers on their website.
before opening the dock try to clean the mouse power receptors!! i scratched em with my nail and then used my shirt until they were really shining and it is charging again
I just bought this mouse and installed it not long ago. Pretty cool mouse, and so far no problems. I saw this video and favorited it just case I have the same problems.
Kinda crappy how hardware now-a-days is getting so 'cheap' and engineered so poorly.
Hopefully mine stays working without having to do this.
thx for letting me know. bought mine on amazon so i doubt ill have a prob returning it. i guess if you are under warranty just keep bugging Logitech for a new one. was looking for a G7 but can't find it anywhere. i guess im gonna go with a DeathAdder. would have been nice to have a wireless. i love Logitech (my G15 is great) but you fail on this one....
used also 3 resisters 10 Om by 0.125W. Charging now works but resistors became very very hot.

I ordered a refurbished with the same charge problem from eCost. E-mail logitech customer service and they'll send you a new one.
I didn't even need to send the old one back, so I may try what you did with my first Revolution.

I had already done that. Both sets of contacts were shiny new, and free of gunk. The mouse gave me problems after about 2 weeks.
Following that guys instructions fixed the charging issue I was having. Only cost me a 5 pack of resistors at Radio Shack.

Sometimes I have to actually turn OFF the mouse then put it in the cradle for charging.
Also, waiting until its dead isn't a good idea either.
It always charges for me when it gets down to one light.
