  • How the hell did I get here from searching for lobotomy videos? Anyway, you sir seem awesome.

  • Wasn't expecting the pulsating part-- is really cool. This is really interesting!

  • Wait why didn't he get a metal plate?

  • @Bigbossjin When I was leaving the hospital, I asked the Dr. about this hole he left in my skull. He told me "there's no medical reason to fill it in, that's cosmetic surgery." That made it a "no-brainer" for me, as I have no interest in cosmetic surgery.

  • @lundissimo

The doctor was wrong. You have a bull-eye on your forehead.

  • Brain will expand?

So fucking what? Brain size within the same species does not make you any more intelligent.

Also, its REALLY easy to kill you.

    *poke*

  • @Bigbossjin What makes you bring up intelligence??? Simple physics will tell you that if your brain expands inside a fixed space (cranium), it will unavoidably compress the little blood vessels between the brain and skull. Enough of this can lead to stroke, which can easily kill you. As far as *poke* is concerned - ever notice that you've already got two big holes in your skull, right up front, and your eyeballs don't provide much protection. It is REALLY easy to kill anyone.

  • @lundissimo

Many people get poked in the eye and they don't die from it.

Eyes are father away from the brain than the cranium is.

    "Don't touch the soft spot"

  • The Internet is so surreal. I was on io9 reading an article titled, "Weird and Wonderful Movies That You’ll Never Get to See", which talks about Amanda Feilding in, Heartbeat in the Brain (1970), which led me here and finding out who co-wrote "Bad Liutenant" (1992)

  • are you able to pour liquid inside you skull stimulatiing your brain?

  • Huh. You never forget a face, and you really never forget a face with a hole in the skull. I walked past you at the last cbgb show that bad brains had. I saw you for all of 10 seconds, but the memory is permanent and vivid. I just mentioned 'trepanation' in some discussion, typed the word into google and saw your face. Pretty amazing.

  • I almost threw up looking at it pulsating. Could you actually touch your brain? What happens if you put your finger in there.

  • what. the fuck. am i looking>?

  • TITTIES!!

  • you're really lucky you didn't suffer debilitating brain damage... sorry about the mugging...

  • off center... OCD kicking in... gahhh

  • its 2009 now and still youtube did not notice the tits

  • Fascinating!!!! Great video

  • I don't know how I stumbled upon all this but to think that some people encourage trepanation for the heck of it is alarming! wvvw.trepan.com

  • he should have done it on the top of his head, then he would have a cup holder

  • Evolution. Not for everybody.

  • What do you know about homunculi?

  • @darkardor haha are you talking about the manga? cus thats where i learned about trepanation and thats why im looking it up and found this video lol!

  • Wow,man,I have always been interested in you and your wife, may she RIP.I have always wanted to meet you,I also wanted to meet Zoe too,but unfortunately....You know out of everyone in her life,I truly believed that you were the one that loved her the most.I think its wonderful the way you keep her memory and legacy alive.I have always wanted to speak to you about her.Not trying to be a creep.I'm just a really big fan.And i also love how you dog out Abel Ferrara, cause i think he is a total asshole

  • Btw, cool vid.

  • Listen, sometimes when there's a full moon I get terrible pressures in my head, "like" a headache, but not really. I see things and I think I'm hallucinating. This seems like a remedy, but not for a once a month thing, and especially with a visibly sunken hole. Maybe if this procedure was somehow updated...

  • Oh My God ....You are that robert lund.....Man ,you were married to a hot, sexy talented woman.

  • @sheshines4all Yes, see zoelund.com.

She was waiting for me upstairs when I got the hole knocked in my head on the way home from work.

  • @lundissimo Your doctor is wrong, the brain is vulnerable therefore there is the skull protecting it. The hole would make it practically a bullseye for any enemy. It takes a toothpick to possibly turn you into a vegetable.

  • Were you ever married to writer\actress\singer\model Zoe Lund?

  • Comment removed

  • I'd put a horn in it

  • @MYeyeFIRE I noticed soon after this happened that, when I held my breath and exerted pressure, which normally causes a "red face", my face did not flush, but rather the hole surface bulged a bit. When a "normal" person holds their breath and presses, the brain is pushed out against the cranial cavity, squeezing the blood vessels around it, backing up the blood from the heart in the facial vessels. With a pressure relief opening, the cranial vessels are not compressed, and blood flows normally.

  • i want one

  • Whatever pseudoscience makes you happy.

  • he shattered the skull but didnt make the hole?

    im confused!!

  • @auzio I think he only cracked it

  • He Uses His Trepination For All The Wrong Reasons.

  • The fact it pulsates is quite amazing. I'm torn between finding that awesome or horrifying, but in any case, it's impressive. O_O

I think it would drive me crazy that the hole isn't quite in the center...

  • 1. He should have fixed his teeth before drilling a hole in his skull.

    2. Just because people did something 'for millennia', doesn't mean it's a good idea. Like sacrificing virgins, for example.

    3. How is a tiny little hole going to give your brain any room to expand? Why aren't you removing the entire top of the skull?

    4. Why would nature give every single organism a hard, enclosed skull if it weren't necessary, not to mention detrimental? Why not cut off your thumbs too?

  • @tpaladino

    1. If you actually watch the video you will see that it's quite clear that I didn't drill this hole.

    2. Exactly - and it doesn't mean it isn't. The scientific studies are determining the validity of this, and the possible reasons why it was much more prevalent than sacrificing virgins throughout history.

    3. I'm not removing any of my skull. After removing the bits of shattered skull, the surgeon told me there was no medical reason to fill it in, so I left it alone.

    4. Too asinine.

  • @lundissimo Sir, well, it ain't exactly the correct procedure of trepanation, but the result seems rather similar, so, before the skin sealed the hole, did you experience anything...strange? because if not, it could be proof that trepanation doesn't work...

  • @tpaladino 3. the point of trepanation is to increase the blood volume and oxygen in the brain, it was believed to help to deal with the overload of data, since the main expectation of the procedure is to be able to use more of the brain's capacity. there ain't really that much of proof about the process, but it doesn't mean that it's wouldn't work.

    4. there are many imperfections in nature, also, if you think of it this way, nature gave you a pair of naked foot, why wear shoes? we evolve =)

  • @tpaladino your appendix isn't necessary

if you learned more about evolution then you'd learn that some things are there but aren't necessary

  • I enjoyed watching this video. Hope your still clean!

  • well... i've heard of people doing this for medical reasons, but they always got the piece of skull replaced, recreational trepanation?

  • boobs!

  • Why exactly did you do this to yourself?

  • @HoLOLcaust Your question reveals that you apparently lost interest or attention before long. I checked the video, and 2 minutes in there's a large title HOW HE GOT HIS TREPANATION, immediately after which I describe what HAPPENED to me. Anyone watching that long into the video would know I did NOT do it to myself.

  • google trepanation

  • i got a headache now...

  • Neat-O

  • disgusting

  • oh yes 1cm sack must protect our brains perfectly. The hard thick coating of bone called a skull thats supposed to surround it obviously does nothing >> please, this is dangerous. Dont go off misinforming people.

  • uhhh...

  • @digitalfreek Ah, we need more insightful comments like this one!

  • I don't get this.If the skull is damaged shouldn't he ware a helmet or some prothesis to protect the skull?Isn't he in big danger if there is nothing to protect the brain?

  • @TheProudAntisemite Big danger, hah! Most people walk around with two holes in their skull, right above their nose. They are used to avoiding spikes and other sharp objects so as not to penetrate the brain. This is no different. And the brain is enclosed in a sack which is 1cm thick, which protects it from most things.

  • wow, I see tits on youtube! with nipples!

  • Thanks at least I don't feel a dick now I hope

  • I'm hiding in my sofa bed either I'm tripping or he has three eyes but one fell out lol

  • @leef0324uk

Please stay there. I can't believe the idiocy this thing elicits from the masses!

  • @lundissimo just shows what man will do to man

insanity is a way of true purity

i never ment it to be a piss take just a thought

  • @leef0324uk Hey, no piss taken. I have a good sense of humor about the hole out in the world, but subtle humor sometimes gets lost amongst twisted jabber on the web.

  • you've got an inny! that or you're a unicorn waiting to be. great hole!

  • I thought it was a term of conduct violation to put any nude pics (topless dancer) on here? Just a thought!

  • the brain has no nerve endings, hence can't feel anything.

  • @Liabr0 so a spear through the head wouldn't hurt as much as

  • @Liabr0 it has nerve endings, just not pain receptors, either way it does not feel pain.

  • doesnt your brain...ever get cold or some shit on that spot?

  • @kittycat101010 I dunno what would make anyone think that your skull (bone) plays any part in keeping your brain warm.

And I never tended to get shit on my forehead before, so there's no reason to think I'm suddenly gonna start collecting shit on it now.

    Sheesh!

  • I kind of wanna put my finger in the hole but I know I shouldnt

  • @verdemanthe1 Many people (predominantly of the female variety) have done so. I don't mind, and they seemed to enjoy it.

  • @lundissimo can your brain feel it,do you taste the color orange if someone does

  • @verdemanthe1 Really, the brain is enclosed in a 3/8-inch/thick sack (forgot the fancy name), so no, the "brain" doesn't feel it, it's just a skin thing. It's be interesting if there was some kinda shots that could make it an erogenous zone...

  • @lundissimo your trippin me out man, is it like a sponge under your skin or what

  • poor guy

  • You can have a new eyes

  • Its not even centered!!

  • tits on youtube! awesome!

  • Maybe your 11 years of heroin addiction caused so much irreversible damage to your brain it played a joke on you and made you drill a hole in your head.

  • the 'feeling like a teenager' thing is commonly known as the midlife crisis...

  • @heirihunziker

Funny, all my mid-life friends seem to long for their teenage years, but I've yet to find any who say they feel like a teenager.

  • @lundissimo yes you are right! i must correct myself, i meant to type 'living like a teenager' (03:33). 'feeling' would be a different thing and i don`t know any middle aged people who say that, either. but i have met a few who, after experiencing an event or change of significance, have started to change their lifestyles as well. none with a story as unusual as yours though. i hope to be as energetic as you when i hit the 50s!

  • @heirihunziker

And to avoid further misunderstanding, lest I be mistaken for a trepanation advocate, let me remind you, as I pointed out in the interview, that since I recovered from an 11-year heroin addiction only a few months after getting this head hole, it's a bit difficult to pinpoint a single source of the increased lust for life that overcame me starting in 1998.

  • @lundissimo The prefrontal cortex makes people act like an adult im glad you dont have one I hate being responsible and planning my actions :(

  • "Spoken to the head"

  • Hey can we have some kind of NSFW warning here? i happened to switch to the window right when there was a big boob. A nice boob but I don't want my coworkers seeing that on my screen.

  • Why does everything bizarre and fucked up all start in The Netherlands?!

  • @Mistermagoo77 :

What you call fucked up and bizarre (trepanation) started many centuries ago all over the world. Someone in the Netherlands finally figured out why they might have been doing it.

  • tits on youtube wwwwwwwooooo!

  • reddit bump

  • you get a nipple on your head, i just get told to 'grow up' or 'you need to act your age' when i feel like being a kid. i think i need new friends

  • It's off-centre. That would really piss me off.

  • @sephir298

Not quite pissed off, but I occasionally wish it were in the center. You just can't get good muggers these days, no concern for the quality of the scars they leave.

  • @sephir298 lmao

  • @sephir298

    Yeah D:

  • @sephir298 Yeah, first thing I noticed. I would want my money back.

  • People like this are fucking crazy man,

  • @ZeroToleranceKnives :

"People like this"? Someone gets mugged, damaged, and makes the best of it. Problem? How's that zero tolerance working for you in life?

  • @lundissimo that was very rude.

  • @unicuber Really? Hardly as rude as "fucking crazy"!

  • @lundissimo I agree!

Being rude back to him solved nothing though, maybe it helped you vent some of your anger, but as far as having a discussion on the scientific/medical merits of this operation, and whether or not those who choose to undergo it are indeed "fucking crazy" (though a better choice of words could have been used, certainly), it was totally unnecessary.

  • @unicuber Well I didn't think I was being rude at all. I thought it relevant to point out the possible connection between his username and his attitude towards the subject. I didn't intend or detect any anger in my response. The merits have been discussed in the video and in prior posts, and Mr. ZeroTolerance didn't seem open to that.

  • Hey dawg, u gota hole in ur head.

  • until he can provide some sort of empirical evidence he is a quack promoting dangerous behavior.

  • What's with people? How can anyone look at this and claim he is promoting any kind of behavior. It's simply an interview with someone describing the result of an injury. So simple to comprehend if you pay attention!

  • until you can provide proof this is some sort of "ancient practice" and not just a bunch of people trying to make money STFU internet looser.

  • Right, "looser" - and you would be "tighter" I presume?

It's stunning that you expect ME to provide proof of anything other than my personal experience. You see what's in your mind when you watch a video, and rant on about unrelated crap.

  • yes. i'm a skeptic so when people claim that putting a hole in your head isn't dangerous i like to see that someone has done some kind of research.

  • @mwells219 first off...it's written "loser". Secondly, stop being lazy and Google "trepanation" check the wikipedia entry and you'll get the answer about it actually being an ancient practice. Now, if it works or not, that is up to discussion. But it is something that has been done for centuries.

  • Its so ironic that everyone who does trepadation to become smarter, also sound and look like they a form of redardation.....

  • Yeah, this guy doesn't seem strange at all. Burning witches, binding feet, purposely mis-shaping heads, female circumcision, cannibalism...these are all ancient practices as well.

  • ha ha! take yer finger and cover up his eyes nose and mouth and watch him!

  • the way around this is just learn how to stimulate the craniosacral pump, trepanation is an easy way out.

But you know I don't know really, because I had some skull trama and that could have helped me.

  • Mufucka has a third eye

  • seems like a cool guy actually

  • now this is a guy with an open mind

  • @deterbhc....... Badoom Pish!

  • @deterbhc hahahahaha.

  • @deterbhc Dohoho.

  • stop dissing robert lund, sredx, he is that rare combination of a new york city legend and a nice guy.

  • oh and btw, before you start flaming on someone else, or calling them retards...just remember, you're a stupid ass t-shirt about trepanation, as if you're supporting this?...and no medical reason to fill it? lol, that's even stupider...how about one quick poke through that unprotected part of the skull? and for someone who isnt in it for its cosmetic look, you sure enjoy showing it off...sigh, life and it's many stupidities...

  • *wearing a stupid ass t-shirt, incase your brain couldn't fill in the gap...lol...

  • You're certainly entitled to make and publicize your own closed-minded opinions about this. I just got the hole by accident, related what some people say about them. But if a medical doctor says there's no medical reason to fill it in, you'd be well-advised to recognize his experience and not blow that off too.

  • i'm advised that if he had some sort of experience that he would know that an unprotected brain, is more at risk that one that is protected...it doesnt take someone with a hole in their skull to figure that out...

  • i understand that an accident is what resulted in this...and perhaps it might have some health benefits, or might take away some pressure and whatnot...but to start comparing to a child, who's brain is more imaginative and so on as being beneficiary is completely stupid, for one reason...the brain is growing. lol and as an adult it can't grow anymore. period. our skulls are closed for a reason. to protect the brain. if we were meant to have holes in em, there would be some. this practice is dumb

  • The way I figured it, you've got two big holes right up front where your eyes are, so another is no big loss of protection. If the brain really is growing as you say, simple physics would tell you that would reduce the space, increase the pressure on blood vessels, constricting them. An open mind is a blessing, something you're sadly lacking.

  • oh i'm open minded...don't you worry about that, and like i've already said, i know your hole in your head was acciedent, so no need to get all defensive...i'm simply pointing out, through comon sense that it's a retarded practice for others to follow in...and just because you can't take some of the things i've said, doesnt mean that i don't know what i'm talking about. so go make love to your little hole, or go fill your mouth with something to stuff it with...coz it's still stupid.

  • Lundissimo, you're completely correct. If this guy (or girl?) was so "open minded", they wouldn't be on this video trying to comment and fight with you. It's a facade. Obviously this person is very insecure and imbecilic, calling people who believe in something he does not believe in mentally handicapped. I respect you for believing in what you believe in, no matter what. :]

Don't let the meanies get you down.

    Love,

    Katie

  • Dude, you should totally get a glass eye and stick it in the depression.

  • Before posting some close-minded remark, you should watch the video and LISTEN. I didn't drill the hole in my head, it was left by the surgeons after they removed all the bone fragments from an injury caused when I was mugged in the streets of NYC. They told me they left it there because there was "no medical reason to fill it in" and I opted not to have another surgery merely for cosmetic reasons.

    RETARD!

  • First of all, the reason an infant has a hole in the center is not for expansion but for the birthing process of squeezing smaller. Secondly, perhaps the reason ancient archaic cultures did this was the same assanine reason for blood-letting, circumcision, and the belief that an all powerful man in the sky made and controls everything. Him and the easter bunny. This guy's brain was destroyed by heroin. No wonder he drilled a hole in his head. Retard.

  • Got to this video from a Hieronymus Bosch painting of a trepanation. Bobby Lund is a really interesting guy, and great talker! I can't believe this video's been seen over 2000 times and my comment is only the 3rd?? Maybe there were lots of moronic comments from people BORN with a hole in their head, and they were removed. that would make sense. Anyway, thanks, interesting!!

  • Brilliant Video.

Stunning. Very Informative. Cant see why anyone would want it done without medicaly needing it though. Mind you dif strokes dif folks,

  • A good video that gives a concise explanation on trepanation. Unless it's medically necessary, I wouldn't advise it for anyone.
