  • yeah, just b/c they are a police officer does not mean they are above the law.

  • I watched this episode the other night and I kept rewinding the part over and over of Barney mimicking Gomer's, "Citizen's arrest! Citizen's arrest!" Too funny! XD

  • 9-11 was Gomer's fault! PROOF!

  • 1 person must have made an illegal U-turn :)

  • this is random, but... Judy Judy Judy!

  • boob! 7:57-8:00

  • For the first time in his life, Gomer Pyle actually said something that made sense.

  • When a police officer is on the job it's perfectly legal for him to bend traffic rule in order to do his job, such as Barney making a u-turn in order to get his emergency vehicle into position to watch the passing traffic...it's unsafe for the public to start attempting to enforce traffic laws on their own, furthermore, an official like the sheriff is supposed to back up his officers in the face of the public. Barney was right all the way around and Andy was a little bitch.

  • @DavidDietzII - I don't know about the state you live in, but several states I've lived in have specific laws stating that law enforcement officers are required to obey traffic laws at all times except when on an emergency call or intercepting a suspected offender (e.g. stopping a speeding vehicle, etc.). Even then, they are required to have their emergency signals (blue party lights) on so that other motorists are warned to stay clear.

  • @DavidDietzII

A law is a law - set in place to be adhered to. It is critical that traffic laws regarding moving vehicles be followed because of the obvious potential involvement of other vehicles containing people; should a law be violated that results in an accident. Excepting actual emergencies, an Officer is operating under the color of law & it is imperative that they adhere to them; by example. Anything less would demonstrate disregard & dishonor for their own rank.

  • @DavidDietzII

As well, The Andy Griffith Show was a show that delivered a good moral message in every episode. Barney was NOT right - he admits this in the end of this episode. Andy's decision was grounded in sound moral ethics & fairness - qualities that our judicial system today lacks. It's curious that you chose to take this so personally; and overlooked the humor you could have enjoyed. The show conveys right over wrong in a humorous context. I sure hope with your mindset you're not a cop.

  • awww i feel bad for gomer lol

  • thank you for putting on all the shows they are awesome

  • This episode has an underlying message. That the officers are NOT above the laws they have sworn to uphold. Today, they are doing just that. Today's lawment try to use intimadation in the place of respect. When I was little, I repected the officers in my hometown because they respected me. Not any more. Fuck the police (state) we've become. When I got stopped in the old days, I didn't worry so much, just took my ticket and left. Today, I worry when I see those red and blue lights.

  • @taypar11 I wouldn't call the message in this episode "underlying." It's pretty obvious. I agree with you that law enforcement regularly abuses their authority, though. :/

  • Don Knotts won 5 Emmys in a row! No one has ever matched that run. When he died, Andy Griffith came on ABC and said he'd lost his brother. They had been on Broadway together in the stage version of NO TIME FOR SARGENTS. They go way back and were great friends up until Knotts died. I talked to Dick York in 1992 before he died and the one thing he regretted was not winning just one Emmy for Bewitched but said if he had to lose year after year, it was nice to lose to a great actor like Don.

  • Citizen's arrest citizen's arrest Hahaha love this episode... and Aunt Bea's Medicine Man! TOOOOTOOOOTOOTSIE

  • Jim Nabors said this was his favorite episode and I agree with him. This episode is my number 1 favorite. with the Pickle Story being number 2.

  • "You just go up an alley and holler fish!"

  • "If I didn't think you were kiddin', I'd hit you with a 912!"

  • Barney is another one of those cops who takes his job waaaaaaaay too seriously. Makes him feel like a big shot to pull somebody over for some bubblegum bullshit offense.

  • @DutchKalhoun LOL....that's what makes it funny, it's the absurdity of it all. It's not really satire, but some of it I think is meant to kinda poke fun at Yankee LEOs (Barney always trying to be like "the Big Boys" up North)

There will never be another Don Knotts, truly one of the most awesome actor of his time.

  • You would think that Andy Griffith would have told them that North Carolina (where this show is based) doesn't recognize citizen's arrest.

  • damn barney has a big mouth!! always talking s*** all the time. then when he is confronted he turns into a little pussy. what a douche

  • Gomer and Barney together is just too funny!

  • CITIZENS ARREST!!! CITIZENS ARREST!!!

  • One of my faviorite episodes of "TAGS". Don Knotts was a true comedy genius!

R.I.P. Don Knotts...1924-2006. You are sorely missed.

  • citizens aarr-ray-yest hehe ha

  • R.I.P DON KNOTTS....

  • poor barney

  • This is a classic of course. Bring on Thelma Lou, oh baby!!

  • Boob?!?!?!? Why, that's an insult in the face of the public! There oughta be a number law that covers THAT! ---Hahaha! Andy Griffith was the Best ever! lol!

  • @djcountry1985 Your opinion means exactly nothing, have a nice life.

  • mayberry is based on the town of rocky mount, north carolina

  • @SUNMAYDEN518

actually the show is based on Andy Griffith's hometown of Mt. Airy, NC-- been there many times for the festival and just because it is a mecca for the die-hard Andy fan. You can drive by his childhood home, go to the remarkable museum where you can see wonderful memorabilia (the ol' salt n' pepper, for starters) or just stroll the streets. Such a wonderful place

  • @ 5:50 when Gomer says, "you just go up an alley and holler fish!" in later years Don Knotts repeats the exact phrase in the movie, "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken."

  • damn I haven't seen this show in forever

  • Man, Don Knotts was a comedic genius!!!!! lol Thanks for the laughs :) Such a classic episode!

  • Great. I love Andy!

  • I do not care how many of my friends make fun of me , I love this show . Andy's willpower can never be bested hah .

  • One of my favorite episodes!

  • Love this episode. If there was a town like Mayberry I would live there until it's time for me to go to heaven. Hardly any crime, no cussing, sitting on your porch after supper singing songs while your grandma knits, no half dressed people with body parts hanging out, no baggy pants, no racism. Wonderful town to live and I'm only 36.

  • thank you for posting all these shows man i haven't watched these in for ever

  • Barney always seems to put his foot in his mouth.

  • YEA!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT IS SO FUNNY!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this is my favorite episode EVER

  • @BKkillaz agreed

  • @BKkillaz mine too!!!

  • sorry i accidently hit the dislike button......I love watching all the old Andy show's the ones with Barney that is.....Good televison, good writing, good actors, something you could set in the living room with your kids and watch....This crap they have on tv now is just trash, plan trash. Thanks for the videos....

  • Hey at 5:02 goober got charged with a 9/11. I heard there were a lot of Freemasonry secrets on Andy Griffith.

  • @elucidative its gomer and yea thats funny

  • This is a great episode for the TAGS trivia buff. In this episode we learn the names of the previous three sheriffs before Andy... Pinkley, Fred Paley and Dale Buckley.. who Andy took over for.

  • "Goober says hey" . . . . . "Hey to Goober!"

  • This is one of the best episodes of the best show on television. Awesome!!

  • Great memories!!! It's sad the writers in Hollywood now write CRAP like Cougr Town, Married With Children, Roseann.... Sad...

  • @schs1977

Roseanne is def. NOT crap, that show was as REAL as you can get; that being said the ANDY GRIFFITH show is timeless and original.

But Roseanne was original-- two overweight working class individuals trying to raise a family is a show that has yet to be re-created by another.. that show was GUTSY --- NOT crap at all.. thats my opinion and i have to defend the writers of ROSEANNE =)

  • @99Mary99 - Thank Goodness Rosanne was cancelled. It was funny when it started, then it became worthless

  • @schs1977

Roseanne was on the air for 9 seasons!!!! I do believe the last season was NOT needed.. i hated the Connors with money, but it was funny , I would say for a good 7 seasons.. thats still pretty good

  • @schs1977 , Andy Griffith show is classic... Married with Children was not bad it was funny it was a favorite of mine I loved that show.

  • 5:48 - 5:55. What's that dialog? It's kinda unclear. Thanks.

  • Original CBS Airdate:December 16, 1963

  • so funny

  • boy do i love the way barney mimics gomer "citizen's arrest citizen's arrest"!

  • .....because some Boob!

  • one of my fave episodes. I have the Show's theme as my ring tone on my cell phone.

  • Barneys badge look to be a little high . Dont know if thats suposed to be there

  • This show always picks me up whenever I am down. They don't make 'em like this anymore. Thumbs up if you agree.

  • @MoodyHyadd Very true, it's like video therapy, cheers from Texas

  • best show ever on tv

  • At 5:00 Barney says Im giving you a ticket for committing a NINE ELEVEN.

This episode aired 12/16/1963. The first Emergency 911 phone call was not made until 2/16/1968.

Cue Twilight Zone Music. Fade to Rod Serling.

From a quiet TV town known as Mayberry, a premonition of an Inside Job that has yet to be. Wars will be waged, not because of a guy in a cave, but because of a well planned U-Turn.

  • Nine eleven is just a code for a crime not a number to call

  • @CaptainCrikey Yeah, and three weeks after the Kennedy assassination.

    I was a baby then : /

  • yes THE best sitcom!!!!!

  • @431516020205 True true

  • 10 years! It's the beginning of the 4th Season and he started before the first episode, so that means he's been there a little over 4 years. Not to mention, in the next season they celebrate his 5th year of employment.

  • @myhighlanddream

maybe he was a clerk before that or something i hate when people nitpick at a show

  • @myhighlanddream He probably was employed somewhere else before he came to work for Andy

  • One of the best episodes ever

  • Citizen's Arr-RAY-yest! Citizen's Arr-RAY-yest! LoL!!

My roommate in college and I used to arbitrarily just say that out of the blue at times lol...that, and "Hooty hoo!! Hooty hoo!!"

    Great episode!

  • @endorphinz You're funny...and I'm literally LOL at your post. :)

  • @endorphinz LOLZ @ Hooty-Hoo. I remember that too.

  • One of my personal top 3 Andy episodes. Thanks!

  • Yeahhh, boy! Thanks a bundle. That's right-near just plain nice of ya! And, as sheriff, I wanna say thank ya.

Gomer: And the best to you and yours!

  • Thank You For all these Episodes
