As I remember, Sato car had showed signed an engine problem in previous laps. Should the stewards forced the team to bring him in? I think its a grey area as in other normal race tracks, the stewards doesn't interfere. But one may argue that it could have been a disaster had the engine blow up in the tunnel, and thats a possibility the stewards should consider.
@Hornet85 Thats very true, i agree with you that it's an area they should look at. I think the drivers will always push until their car lets go though, it's just in their competitive nature.
there was a good chance that if he had kept going the engine would have completely siezed before sato reached the pits. so to avoid stopping in the middle of a corner or spreading oil even further round the track he chose to stop in a postion where the car could be easily recovered. monaco is such a tight enclosed circuit that the smoke was always gonna be a problem. i don't think it really fair to blame sato
In response - Taki Inoue, Yuji Ide finished races in 1995 and 2006 respectively, not mentioning Katayama who had many finishes in Tyrell from 92-97 and even this season, Nakajima!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don´t think it was sato´s fault. Yes there was smoke from his car since the race started but I believe he didn´t even notice that. The team should have told him to stop and retire. And Fisi should slown down
Well as they say in the Netherlands, "Je hebt het verdient dat je jezelf verwent,

@CptNeutralize actually the system back then used to count the laps down. so it would go from 77/77 to 0/77.

How many times have seen a normal engine blow up just like that?
leverage1990 3 years ago 45
@leverage1990 That are race engines! The engines are pushed to the max. So if they blow up it, it goes almost always like that.
Bastl1990 1 year ago
@Bastl1990 Which, as a racing fan, I happen to know very well. What the hell had I been smoking while writing that comment?
