  • huge bull shark,or maybe a tiger shark can't realy tell

  • as a shark lover this just made me feel happy and was greatful to up close to admire it.

  • I feel bad for the shark...

  • even a 5 year old could have done it. lololololololol delilahahaha

  • I'm not really the arty farty type but this is just plain shit. I've never doubted or forgotten my mortality - on the contrary I can't wait to go back home.

  • i used to look at old sharks inside of empty tanks, but then I took an arrow to the knee

  • it gots wrinkles u__u

  • sheesh...that momma needs a facelift.

  • here's an idea: fuck whatever shitty message is put behind conceptual art, the only thing that matters is that it's interesting to look at. a fucking shark, man. i dig that shit.

  • old shark is old

  • mom:sonny u seen ur father

    son:nope

    mom:o never mind found um

  • looks like grandpa.

  • that shark was wrinkly. i bet he was old :o

  • Art is in the eye of the beholder. To me this isn't art , it's a nice museum display of a dead organism.

  • I flagged it for nudity because the shark was wearing no clothes :)

  • @TheCardB0y then say goodbye to 99% of all the cute cat vidz on you tube.

  • when this was first shown, an art columnist in the guardian said "the wonderful thing about Hirst is the way in which he provokes thought through the use of everyday household objects"

    Like a shark.

    And a tank of formaldehyde.

  • @hattonhaha Well of course. I have one tucked beneath the kitchen sink and another in the garage, doesn't /everyone/? In all seriousness though you made me lol a bit.

  • I love that comic book writer and icon Warren Ellis had X-Men Emma Frost and Beast compare Cyclops to Damien Hirst when he blasts half of a giant geengineered meat monster in two. The joke was Emma and Beast could have sold the monster Cyclops blasted in half as a Damien Hirst piece to the tate modern.

  • Oh Ive heard of this guy not to long ago when we were talking about skull made with diamonds.

  • o.o he looks a little dry......lotion?

  • he neeeds some moisturizer :3

  • So they killed this poor shark just to do this to it? Unfucking believable.

  • Thumbs up for Botox

  • that shark needs some skin cream, cuz he sure is wrinkly! (jk)

  • WOW. THAT'S CALLED SOME ART.

  • i remember when art used to be done with a paintbrush.

  • can someone explain this? in english? its cool, but i really have no idea what its suppose to "represent"?

  • @xThatGuyZ You don't see the fine suit of clothing that the emperor is wearing? The meaning is obvious to everyone else. :p

  • let me guest ur in ct or ny right

  • The ignorance of people these days.

  • It is a work of art but u couldnt appreciate that unless u really seen it. Stood next it. Its not art because of wut it looks like. Its art because of how it makes u feel when u stand beside it.

  • Krstellar im not aare thwt a tiger shark is an endangered species and as for anatomy being incorrect its a preserved dead shark so theres nothing anatomicaly incorrect about it. Which also took a huge effort by alot of people to succefuly accomplish

  • could it be that you know it's dead but the fear and shock emanated from the shark makes it seem so real that it makes it impossible to be dead in the mind of the viewer...just a though, PLEASE SHARE YOUR VIEWS ! :)

  • they should turn that into like one of those singing fish.

  • great so putting up an endangered shark species in a tank is art and then when it was set up it was supposed to look like it is biting but that was done wrong too because the teeth are still in the gums rather than fallen forward to be able to bite.

So anatomically incorrect and ethically questionable as well as a disgrace to the environment. Bravo well done!!!

  • Love the concept, hate the artist.

  • for a second i thought the shark was alive

  • Good one smokenfly514 you are the first one ever to question this artwork. Hirst should have realized what you wrote.

Jughead2950 also thanks for being the museum police.

  • I covered my cat's turd in sparkles and put it in a tank. Selling it for $80,000. True art lovers inbox me if interested

  • he looks stoned

  • The concept comes from the idea that you know it's dead, but if you get up close to it, your adrenaline skyrockets from the fear of death. Which is impossible because the shark's already dead. So it's a fight or flight idea.

  • what the fuck did that title have to do with a dead fish?

  • Dude, didn't you read the sign on the wall that says, "No Pictures Please"?

  • A dead shark isn't art.

  • ok i do get the conseped of the shark in the tank it's death in many people's mind and that's what Hirst art is all about the consept of dying..........to be frank what i think should be in the tank is a gaint great white shark with it's mouth open now that would be really shit your pants scary, it would be shouting death from the roof tops.

  • @TamaraAndTheDemon "Concept"?

  • @Kwintessence

    Ah well spoted

  • @TamaraAndTheDemon i'm an english teacher. i spend all day doing that. sorry!

  • @TamaraAndTheDemon It's spelled concept, umadbro?

  • @RuinLaugh1

Yes it was written before i knew how to spell, it was a year ago so NMFP

  • This is awesome

  • this.......art?,...........HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAHSAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHA DONT MAKE ME LAUGH

  • @SuperReiReiChan You don't know what art is.

  • @Enoeno ... art reflects the times... but also art can affect and change the mass consciousness by being pro-active.

This work, in common with most of today's art and media, is passive and reflective - therefore regressive. I'm sure Hirsts's a decent chap, just taking his big chance to make a name for himself by invoking disgust shock with his offerings.

Its an old trick, gets the crowds through Saatchi's turnstiles.

  • wats sup grandpa

  • Would be great to see Hirst in a tank of formaldehyde!

  • You should've did a 360 shot of it. Where is it at?

  • It's now at the Metropolitan Museum...I need to get up ther it goes back to storage in February.

  • Where is the Metropolitan Museum?

  • Central Park, New York City.

  • Okay, kind of way out of my way but thanks!
