Oh yeah, no one in history has ever been gay. This is a brand new thing. Such a small group of people, too. I'll bet they don't contribute anything to society....wait. You mean were condemning politicians, actors, writers, poets, leaders, artists, musicians, Emperors, clergymen, journalists, and athletes, among others? And this has been going on since before Roman times? Penguins are gay, too? The guy who painted the Sistine Chapel was gay? Eh, probably just a phase.
And scare tactics like bringing up NAMBLA is just sad. Gays are not all pedophiles, that is a tired comparison meant to frighten people. Has man-woman marriage let to men marrying young girls? Oh wait, that existed here for hundreds of years, back when women were the property of their husbands. Back in the good old days of our "unchanging" "traditional marriage".
Also, if marriage equality is like changing sides of the roads, what's the big deal? It's perfectly arbitrary what side of the road we drive on. We could adjust to changing that and society would be unchanged. This guys an idiot.
Marriage has not been a norm in this country for four hundred years. It has undergone many, many changes. And humans continue to evolve. Slavery was a norm for hundreds of years, does that make it bad that we changed it for a minority of people? Especially when our country didn't even acknowledge them as people. We could've put that up for a vote, we'd still have an enslaved population that were denied their humanity.
Humans are dynamic... so a system that has 'remained the same' for 400 years is probably a problem. Why do straight people have such an issue with this. Whether gay marriage is passed or not, how in the world does it affect straight people? This really should be a non-issue and its been dragging out forever. I'm sick of it!
He has a strong point here, we haven't changed any norms in over 400 years - let's not start now! We are exactly the same as we were 400 years ago, EXACTLY. Let's keep it this way.
@gabbiii The problem with a 'norm' is that they often alienate those that don't fit within. Should we go on alienating contributing members of society or should we change what we perceive to be normal?
@WAKEUPshift111 I was being sarcastic, I don't even honestly believe that the 'norm' he is referring to exists or ever did exist. Marriage has become more and more warped through time.
This guy seems like an in the closet self loathing gay man. I always think the ones who fight gay rights the loudest are paying to blow hooters behind their wives' backs.
what a moron. Speaking like an expert making statements about what marriage was like "since the beginning of time". Do your research bigot. Marriage today is NOTHING like it was in the past. The Church, Kings and Emperors, Popes, and other leaders throughout history have re-defined marriage to suit their beliefs and situations.
A complete non-issue. If you don't agree with marriage equality, don't marry someone of the same sex! As a school teacher, I don't ever recall reading/citing the words..."with liberty and justice for ALL" and seeing the word, "except". Separate but equal does not, has not and should not work. We can not "eenie meenie miney moe" through our neighborhoods and point to who is allowed marriage or not. As a christian and American, I am for equality, love, and celebrating all human life.God Bless
Should we then take away straight people's rights because the Ashley Maddison company is promoting swinging? Apparently that's okay. Newt likes it. And his supporters - those alleged Christians who want to force their puritanical agenda down our throats - carefully ignore his history of infidelity because they don't think Mittens can beat Obama in the polls. God help us if Gingrinch is their nominee. People are so messed up right now that they're likely to vote for him. We're doomed.
Gay rights and the right to same sex marriage has nothing to do with child abuse or these guys hooking up with young children. That is just fucking sick. To be attracted to children in such a way as to want to have sex with them is a sickness. Pure and simple. No excuses.
I'm pretty sure NAMbLA has nothing to do with marriage equality. In fact, the mainstream American gay rights movement shunning NAMbLA from the get-go.
Good gravy! Not only was his pap nothing but a string of assertions, but his equivocation with gay marriage to NAMBLA was truly dumb and beside the point.
