I am HIGH risk for schizophrenia and recently my dumbass triggered what was likely an episode for 9 days or so... as it was maddening it was also life altering and eye opening for how much i should value my physical, mental, and spiritual health... it was centered on the "big" themes, mostly concerning great truths about God and science but my dual trains of thought almost crippled me... I am both praying for others affected by this horrifying condition and myself to not lapse/relapse....

I would seriously like to know if my brother can be helped; he's been on schizophrenic medications since around 1983 or so. Is it probably too late? It was sad when I visited him today; to see him so much less than what he was prior to 83'. He still has his memory and he used to have a genius I.Q.--getting all A's and studying to be a doctor until his mind wouldn't allow him to think coherently....and it only got worse. What about intensive nouthetic counseling?

If a person does measures, such as eliminate food allergies and supplementing with items that testing might be able to actually show a lack of in their bodies - then just about anyone who has some life left in them may possibly feel a bit better, more perky and somewhat cleared headed.

One finds a correlation betw. complaint, symptoms, & test results. "Mental illness" is identifiable only thru observable conduct: there are no pusules, edema, running sores, or affected tissues. There is no test for a brain chemical imbalance. Mental illness is one of thought & ideas; cancer is one of tissue, cell alteration.

You obviously haven't seen the one hour program "Minds on the Edge" which deals with the freedom that adults have to refuse any medical treatment unless they are a "harm to themselves or to others." My GOD it is lucky if one can GET mental health care if one wants it. You are sorely misinformed. I know, I have severe anxiety, clinical depression, and feelings of unreality. Medication saved my life but is no cure.

1. You cannot force an adult in the US to take medications. Only if they have been forcibly hospitalized/or voluntarily on a 72 hour hold as a danger to self or to others.

2. No one can force anyone to take medications. .

@DownInMontegoBay No they can. I was threatened by a psychiatrist because I was a danger to myself. But I pretended to be a normal teenager and he bought some of it. He left me alone then. I have problems living in this society no one is like myself. I pick apart the personalities of various people as a way to communicate to them by conformity. But I am not like anyone I know family friends. Pretty much by myself. And I am very anti-social. I have a small hand full of friends because I am picky.

yep at most these drugs are just temporary fixes, but for some it can be disastrous. Addictions, withdrawals, side effects, tolerance ALL apply to these psychiatric drugs. Underline tolerance. Its the same as chronically smoking weed and not receiving the same effects after a long period of usage.

My god people have forgotten how to deal with their own problems without resorting to drugs. For example a symptom of bipolar disorder is lack of responsibility? That is absurd

one last thing: i think the only cure you can find is within yourself. you have to ask yourself why you feel the way you feel. For example, you can't just say i'm violent because of the basis of a bipolar diagnosis. There is an underlying reason why you have violent tendencies. (traumas like mistrust of others, being badly mistreated throughout your life, etc etc). If you do not defuse these compounding feelings or traumas yes they can cause neurological "disorders".

I am currently being tortured to death with anti psychotics . My zest for life has totally diminished and I feel like a zombie. If I don't turn up for my injection they will send the police round to break down my door and have me hospitilised again. It's appauling.

I have a best seller on my hands about my 15 year experience with The System and so called "mental illness"- did the work with a good supportive therapist, changed dramatically, was mocked and slandered, the Clinic just keeps handing out appointment cards and pills, they do nothing about public awareness and hate against the mentally ill- I have become a hermit as many who dont suicide do- you probably wont reply-and some will earn a MS or Ph.D for this kind of talk-DSM4 is a joke

I can tell you from my personal experience that zyprexa caused my diabetes. Before I took zyprexa, my health was perfect as documented by a thorough physical just prior to taking zypexa. I was presribed zyprexa "off-label" for OCD. I'm not against big pharma, prescription drugs or prescribing off-label, but Lilly shouuld be held accountable for this Off Label Promotion of this atypical antipsychotic.

Psychiatrists are not healers, they cannot document a single person ever healed from there treatments. Hitler was a drug addict, high on Meth, which accounts for his behavior. You can buy the A&E documentary High Hitler. Yes, 30 percent of the SS were psychiatrists. Psychiatrists are also responsible for the holocaust, the theory called eugenics introduced by Psychiatrist Alfred Ploetz and his brother in-law Ernst Rudin expanded to rassenhygiene. If you listen to his words in the interview at the site, it is clear that he is talking about both neuroleptics and antidepressants; he lumps all drugs together. And The fact is that SSRI's are NOT very effective; the FDA rejected Prozac repeatedly because of a lack of evidence of efficacy. And they are dangerous, possibly accounting for a significant part of the horrific random violence (e.g., school shootings). Though they do appear to be far less dangerous than the neuroleptics.
