I couldn't help but notice: This "NBC News At Sunrise" video was posted to YouTube on NOVEMBER 30, 2006. The date was the 51st birthday for both U.S. Senator RICHARD M. Burr (R-NC) and presidential historian Michael BeSChLOSS--both born NOVEMBER 30, 1955. I used to enjoy the NBC News graphics centered on the Statue of Liberty. The theme accompanied the roll out of the network using "The Mission" theme, composed by Brian Williams. The network still uses versions of "The Mission" today in 2009
You know, they should revive NBC News at Sunrise for another reason-CBS and ABC have programs (Up to the Minute and World News Now respectively) airing before their morning network news programs (the CBS Morning News and America This Morning respectively). I know it would probably cost a little more, but there's definitely a need for it now that Poker After Dark is coming to an end due to the FBI charging its sponsor, Full Tilt Poker.net, has been charged with violating federal gambling laws.
This clip, I believe, is from the summer of 1987 (it originated from one of my videotapes). "Sunrise" was on from 1983 to 1999. Deborah Norville was the primary anchor from January 1987 to September 1989 (she replaced Bob Jamieson and was succeeded by John Palmer). Joe Witte was the weather reporter from the program's premiere on August 1, 1983.
Connie Chung was the primary anchor when "Sunrise" began on August 1, 1983. She left the program in late 1985 or early 1986 to join Roger Mudd as co-host of the NBC News primetime magazine program "1986." Bob Jamieson replaced Ms. Chung as anchor of "Sunrise," but as I recall he never received "name credit" in the opening titles. Mr. Jamieson had definitely replaced Ms. Chung as "Sunrise" anchor by April 1986.
Joe Witte. My gosh, there's a name from childhood. He used to be the meteorologist for WITI (Channel 6) in Milwaukee in the 80s. From what year is this clip?

Of course, "The Missions" was composed by John Williams, not Brian Williams, Tom Brokaw's successor at "Nightly News".

I remember ads for this show with Ann Curry as host... that must not have lasted long.

It's now called Early Today.

I prefer "News at Sunrise." Early today could also mean 10 a.m.
The title "News at Sunrise" is very specific. It means dawn.
It doesn't fuck with our heads and anger us the way the other title does.

Jaybee1973jaybee, do you know how long Connie Chung was on "Sunrise"? If I'm not mistaken, she was the first primary anchor back in '83.
