Reportedly she learned music with difficulty, but what a singer! To be able to float up to that high G (1:32) in " da drinn ist die silberne Ros'n" must be about as much fun as there is, other than ...
periodically i return to this clip to see the amazing acting and hear the beautifully moving voice of Dame Kiri's. if only I could attend her performance in Cologne in April! as it is, can only wish her the very best for an equally moving and beautiful performance there.
Oh God, she does Strauss justice! This woman is my complete role model, as a musician, I strive to reach this level in excellence in artistry and emotion. Kiri, you're a goddess.
wow, I love her. She is wonderful. I wanted to ask about the sets used in those days compared to today. Do you think one might see lavish costumes, gorgeous lush set designs in the future, or do you think it will get smaller, and less objects to look at on stage?
It seems that the tendency is to have fewer objects on stage instead of the lavish sceneries. One can say thats modern, blahblahblah but personally I prefer the old days; Unless you go only for the music but for that youve the DVDs. In my opinion it should be a complete experience with lavish voices, music and sets ^^
Not sure who says that Kiri has a small voice?? It is both voluminous and passionate here and there is nothing 'dreary' about this Marshallin- poised, aristocratic and and beautiful. Sheer kirissima!!!
I heard that before. She said her voice is small in Puccini.(this description was from one reading report.....). In mu opinion, while you sing one role and inveloved in, you will forget voice and just follow your heart. Kiri did it !!!
I'm sorry about the replies that have been made to your comments. Someone with no brains and no life has been making non-sense comments about Kiri; I removed them. I only allow constructive criticism here :)
Dame Kiri - wow...amazing, as always.

She actually cried on stage...and it's like she embodies the character. I feel like crying when I watch this too.
