The skill level represents supply and demand. High level skill work does not require a union. There's more jobs than workers. With low level it's easy to bully 1 guy, tougher to bully 2000.

The US government has been bailing out people for years without the consent from the people. This is nothing new. We've bailed out failed nations with foreign aid and now we are bailing out banks. America is a doomed nation.

There are a lot of companies out there that have unions that are doing great, because they keep up with demand, technology, dependability, etc. The unions do not make policy for the company, they demand fair wages, good benefits, and reasonable time off.

If you have no unions and you pitt worker against worker particularly in jobs that do not require a high level of skill. You're headed for a further shrinking of the middle class. You'll end up with really rich ppl and really poor people. If companies can have a united front so can workers.

The skill level represents supply and demand. High level skill work does not require a union. There's more jobs than workers. With low level it's easy to bully 1 guy, tougher to bully 2000.

The $3 per hour number was just an example of how low you'd have to go to match the going rate in China or India.
Most 'imports' are built here now. At least the ones taking market share from the big 3.

There are very very few times that I agree with FOX News and it's anchors; however, I support Shep in this one.
Government support of the failed automakers only promises to prolong failures of businesses. These companies have been uncompetitive since the 1970's and should, in our free-market system, be allowed to fail. New companies will arise and take their place - new, stronger, more competitive, more innovative companies. If you work for one of these guys... start looking for a new job.

I think the email was about his stance on blaming unions for the failure of the auto industry. Personally, I think the blame should lay on the CEO's of the companies. There are a lot of companies out there that have unions that are doing great, because they keep up with demand, technology, dependability, etc. The unions do not make policy for the company, they demand fair wages, good benefits, and reasonable time off.

The foreign auto makers are hurting too. This recession is worldwide, not just Amerian.-para- Ford makes some fine high mpg cars in Europe, but they won't retool to sell them here. They have some very clean diesel cars too. You won't see them either.

Reality is the big 3 were already given a bailout of sorts back in September to assist their efforts in restructuring to a more "green" perspective. When I hear the average wage of these labor workers and the fact that a rep from the UAW stated there will be "No Concessions" to any future financial assistance yesterday I am inclined to say "figure it out yourself". I drive a Toyota because they produce a sounder vehicle. That's the reality the big 3 refuses to look at.

This is not about FOx News, Shep Smith and politics. This is about companies not operating in a fashion that helps them maintain their financial solvency. As soon as the union said no concessions, it was completely over. Done deal. Americans were not going to step in on this one. Period. States, cities, and companies galore want a bailout now...no more people. Sink or swim.

And what we were told would be 700 billion is now over two trillion. I want all my tax monies back from the state and federal governments. I paid them in good faith and I did not receive what I was led to believe I would be getting in return for my money.

He might have a point, but the fact that he has a "lawn care maintenance guy" illustrates his opinion on economics (and unions) is far out of touch and irrelevant compared to the hard working American who emailed him. The fact that he, or anyone can't see the irony is unbelievable.
