This guy was a pure genius,,and its crazy how natural it came to him,,this guy was so good,,damn i miss REAL AUTHENTIC comedians ,,the ones that had to make it on strong personality!,and nowadays its all about looks and special effects, and because of crazy fuckin dumb kids and parents, they dont even put the same shit on TV that they used to in the 80's.We will probably never see guys like this again,,just pure talent.
@Shroommduke Seeing that there are over 300 million people in america and over 6 billion people on the planet, simple logic could tell you the reason the government wants to keep tobacco products legalized, along with alcohol, but not that all natural, beneficial harmless plant called cannabis!! Which actually destroys cancer, promotes peace and brain cell growth, and brings people together instead of keeping them separated from everything. I'm not a stoner, just using common sense.
I saw him live at Nashville's Exit/Inn in the 2nd half of the 70's. I think it was after his stint as Sgt. Glory (Is that the name?) for Purity Dairy and before Ernest debuted. He was surprisingly edgy and intelligent, and did a great segment of Shakespearian parody. Quite a departure from his "Creature Cooler" bug juice ads.
Anyone have any of those to upload? I couldn't find a single still image or reference to this character on the net.
jim varney was awesome, he was so ugly he was cute like some of them little ugly dogs. I didnt say that to be mean, after all he capitolized on that bigtime. Im sure in heaven hes cracking everyone up with his antics lol
I was in Kentucky in the summer of 1992, right outside of Lexington! Wish I had known Jim was gonna be there. RIP, Jim. Peace of Christ fox you, and to all. Peace of Christ to you.
I was really surprised when I first saw a picture of Jim Varney out of character. For some reason that cap Ernest always wore made me think Jim was bald...I never would have guessed he had a full head of wavy hair.
i see pore jim,and wish this and wish that...any of ya ever think maybe he lived well and didn't mind somkin or passin away...just a thought...bunch a emo's man
Bunny shows very briefly in Ernest Scared Stupid. She also shows up in the 1994 video "Your World As I See It" where his Astor Clement character hosts and introduces many of Jim's other familiar characters. She might have popped up in another movie but I can't remember right now. I know he had been doing Bunny since the early 80's when he was on POP GOES THE COUNTRY for a brief period and in other stand-up performances.
He has truly captured a tiny niche of Southern history. From Shakespearean actor to commercials-in-the-80s-guy to doing standup in the 90s...Jim Varney is a talent that was great YET never quite found the venues that were so desperately needed for a talent such as his.
His trademark voice? I wonder if it was because that nasty ole cancer that took him away? because of all the smoking-If only we knew we could get him help! I heard he smoked a lot, just like Patrick Swayze today. 3/12/09
We're going to lose Patrick Swayze too, I can't believe how he looked on Saturday Night Live doing the Chippendales routine!lol Damned cigarettes!
its still funny. Not in a "LOL" way for most people that were a kid that knew him as Ernest. But his act is still funny, otherwise the people wouldn't be laughing.
He used to do a hilarious standup routine about 30 years ago about this character named "Elrod". Another part had a mechanic doing LSD. David Letterman used throw out some lines from that routine on his show sometimes.

DON'T SMOKE TOBACCO!
Tobacco use is the leading cause of preventable illness and death in the United States!
Don't do Drugs... but tobacco is ok?
The "War on Drugs" is an abject failure and a fraud!
I think if you have enough money you can get anyone to say anything for as long as you want...
