Their only blame lies in selling parts of their group which made up MGR to the Phoenix Consortium.
The Phoenix Consortium bled the company for their own personal gain, taking over £40million for themselves and leaving the company to die. These heartless bastards had no concern for the company, its customers or even its employees.
@SirRicwin Incase you forgot bmw asset stripped Rover before the got rid of them. All they were interested in was the Mini which they knew was a money winner.
They stopped making the Metro which was making the company money. Yes it was a pile of crap in the end but it still made Rover money.
who ever said the k series engine was shit!!!! lasted for over 3 mins without water and oil and sand in the engine! if you look after the engine in them. they will soldier on.
I could have used that engine in my late Rover 200. These people are so stupid. They should have broken the car so that other Rover 200 owners could have used the spares.
I had a Rover exactly like that. Shame to ruin it really.
Oh, and pyrotechnics were used when the engine stopped. Give the crowd something to look at. Engines rarely explode like that, they just grind to a halt.
what a bunch of assholes and the funny thing is you did it to a british car! god i'd like to know how you are now offsetting the carbon footprint you lot just made by uneeccesarily reving the guts out of that poor old car that stood for all things british at one point...shame!
So this is what the government do with their Scrappage scheme :D
All jokes aside, it's still a Total waste tho. Apart from the body damage on the doors, it was prob in perfect working order for a cheap A2B Run and considering how long that engine lasted under that torture, shame.
The same car ive been running for 4 years and its still going strong 100k + miles now spent a few bob here and there but IMHO was worth the privilege driving a bit of british motoring history like Paul stated.
I think the government are harming the so called carbon footprint by this cull on useable cars. I know that the 200 is worth nothing. One of my neighbour's had one, and traded it in for a Ford Focus, and the Rover was in better condition than my one, with a lower milage. My one has over 160,000 miles. Excellent little car now to be de-based in China along with the 75. Well done Tony!
I would assume that this vehicle would have been an MOT failure, and thus, not roadworthy. Alright, so it has a rather undignified demise, but at least it's not still on the road, being a danger.
They didn't use a BMW or a Ford for a very good reason... Rovers are worthless & they are shite. Who cares about them anyway? its only just a car that just about gets you from A-B.
Oh no, Not another Rover/MG extremist! get over it! Its just 1 poxy cheap little Rover 200 bubble out of hundreds of thousands of them still around. Rover 200 bubbles are as common as muck & will be in 10 years time its not like they are getting rare like they are going out of fashion... Jesus man its only a worthless pile-of-crap that was made in Longbridge it doesn't hold heritage & importance to Britain like its a WW2 Spitfire or Hawker hurricane for god sake. It contributed to nothing!
Well I guess I owe you an apology. You see I own one, and bar the stupid head gasket and rubbish radiator apart, a very good little car, and it has aged far better than it's rivals. The 400 on the other hand, very dull!
should have used a shitty tinny ford coz they are 100% shite !

@pattzydriveman2010 Actually BMW played no part in the demise of MGR.

I understand that to quicken the process of blowing the engine, it's drained of oil and partially filled with sand.

Do that to any car. See how long it will last.
I am still driving a Rover 420si T series bought cheap with low mileage in Lappland, Sweden 7 years ago.
Still going strong today and has seen the best of both weathers and attracts spectators as it is a rare car here mostly when I go shopping !
For info it was minus 29 today and it started without a problem. Beautiful car and bloody reliable !!!

I think that this Rover 200 was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. I don't think that it's mistreatment was anything personal.

In which case - its not soo bad.

haha and Fords and communal garden BMWs are worth money?
This car might not have much financial value but it has HERITAGE and IMPORTANCE. This car contributed to Britain. The others you mentioned didn't.
