Come on, is straight hair really that serious???? There is a right way to apply a perm but even then there are still serious risks (an example: development of uterine fibroid tumors in the long run). The cons outweigh the pros. I'm SO glad I'm natural. If I want to wear my hair straight, I can just apply heat protectant and straighten on a LOW heat setting to avoid heat damage. It's the best of both worlds.
Somebody must've been scratching!!!! The day before that perm you supposed to wrap that hair up and not touch it so the scalp isn't scratched. If you cut the scalp and chemical gets in it hurts.
Vaseline on your edges and rinse when it hurts.
I don't know about this business of working it in and rinsing at the same time. All I know is I haven't EVER taken my hair out doing my own perm. And I don't have chemical burns. My hair breaks when I stop moisturizing and deep conditioning my micro's

this is one of the reasons i went natural. my mom and the hair dresser would always continue to but the perm in my hair even after i was crying saying it was burning. This is caused a lot of my hair to shed real bad and breakage. if you gunna put a perm in someones hair wash that stuff out as soon as it starts to burn because thats dangerous and you can get serious sin damage from leaving it it that long

I am so glad my perm days are over! April 2012 will be a year...I was very tender headed just like the girl in the video...It didn't matter if I got my hair permed at the salon or at home...I couldn't leave the perm on my head more than 5 mins before washing it out... I would have perm sores and be in tears if the perm stayed on any longer...I finally had the courage to go natural!!

All you guys going on about being natural; that's all good for you but I've got hair that I CANNOT put a comb through when it's not relaxed. I was never taught by my mom. I had to learn after I went natural. You may be using the wrong type of comb. Regular combs will not work on black people's natural hair. You have to use a wide tooth comb or a pick. it is best to pick/comb your hair when it is wet to prevent breakage and pain. texture/napiness doesnt matter.

If her scalp is burning from the relaxer she should either stop relaxing her hair or go to the salon and get it done or use a mild relaxer. And wait about 4 months in between the root touch ups.

If you leave a perm in too long it will burn your scalp. It will literally melt through your skin. Thats how strong and harsh those chemical are. If you do not know how to use the perm, it burns perfusely! Especially the way she's rubbing it into her scalp and its not even suppose to go on the scalp for safety purposes. Why do you think you have to wear gloves? Not to look cute while you're gettin it. It's because it'll burn your skin off if you leave it there long enough. Think people.

When I was younger i had a lady leave a relaxer on my hair to long and it was burning really bad, I was in tears but she said it had to stay on longer. All of my hair fell out and my mom was pissed cause she trusted the lady. I've had bad experiences in the past, now i'm natural and I get my hair pressed. It grows longer, is healthier and looks just like a relaxer when straightened with out the chemicals.

I am so glad my perm days are over! April 2012 will be a year...I was very tender headed just like the girl in the video...It didn't matter if I got my hair permed at the salon or at home...I couldn't leave the perm on my head more than 5 mins before washing it out... I would have perm sores and be in tears if the perm stayed on any longer...I finally had the courage to go natural!!

I get perms, and it's not very often when I go to my room after it's in and wait too long for it to set, but when it happens, and it starts burning, you better fucking believe I'm telling SOMEONE. And my mom is quicker than me to run to the damn sink and run the water. My mother dont play about my hair. She always told me that since she never could really do anything for hers, that she tried to do her best with mine. AND THAT INCLUDES MAKING SURE THE WOMAN COULD PERM IT RIGHT.

1. NEVER scratch your hair before a perm
2. ALWAYS base your scalp before you perm it to prevent burning
3. ALWAYS rinse out as soon as it starts burning

Im gld I stopped getting relaxers. I didn't have to chop my hair or nothing and I been natural for about 3 years now. I just straighten my hair if I want it to look straight.

All you guys going on about being natural; that's all good for you but I've got hair that I CANNOT put a comb through when it's not relaxed. Like my hair breaks combs when I try that, and that's not talking about the pain! So yh, the lady definitely didn't do this right but that's not to say relaxing hair in general isn't good.

@fLoRiDchIQ Everyone doesnt know how to care for a black woman's natural hair. If you were raised on the creamy crack like i was then you may not know much about natural hair. I was never taught by my mom. I had to learn after I went natural. You may be using the wrong type of comb. Regular combs will not work on black people's natural hair. You have to use a wide tooth comb or a pick. it is best to pick/comb your hair when it is wet to prevent breakage and pain. texture/napiness doesnt matter.

Are you sure this poor child is not allergic? I am badly allergic to relaxers and for almost six years now have eschewed any chemical applications to my hair. My daughters will not be perming their hair under my roof. And they ought to slap some cream onto that laughing fool's head while they're at it. My big brother used to scoff when we cried on hot combing day until he and our cousin decided to try it as a lark. He has sworn to hurt anyone who tries it on his daughters.

LMFAO! Was it really worth all of that?! Permed hair looks horrid and raggedy. Why put yourself through pain to look bad? That's why her hair is short like a boy's, from making it crispy with perms. I bet her natural hair was awesome and full and curly and full of body. If her scalp is burning from the relaxer she should either stop relaxing her hair or go to the salon and get it done or use a mild relaxer. And wait about 4 months in between the root touch ups.

If you leave a perm in too long it will burn your scalp. It will literally melt through your skin. Thats how strong and harsh those chemical are. If you do not know how to use the perm, it burns perfusely! Especially the way she's rubbing it into her scalp and its not even suppose to go on the scalp for safety purposes. Why do you think you have to wear gloves? Not to look cute while you're gettin it. It's because it'll burn your skin off if you leave it there long enough. Think people.

@HotDiva6345 It can be that bad when a person leaves it on too long or if she scratched. When I was younger i had a lady leave a relaxer on my hair to long and it was burning really bad, I was in tears but she said it had to stay on longer. All of my hair fell out and my mom was pissed cause she trusted the lady. I've had bad experiences in the past, now i'm natural and I get my hair pressed. It grows longer, is healthier and looks just like a relaxer when straightened with out the chemicals.
