  • Yes The Kinks are GODS. If people didn't realize that back in the 60's they either weren't born or had their heads shoved too far up their asses to know about it. They were simply screwed by the obscenely, corrupt, meat grinder system. Yet they survived and continued to beat the man on a low budget.

  • I have for a long time considered Brian Wilson to be Rock's supreme genius, especially since he finished SMILE. But after really discovering Kinks, (digging deep into their music, their albums, not just the hits) I know that Ray Davies matches Wilson's genius, level 100.0%

and he writes all of his own lyrics too. This is the best version of W. Sunset I have ever heard.

Saw him in S.F. in 2008. Great! Missed him in 2010 with the choir. Shame on me!!

  • Why is it difficult to sing with Kinks? Just dont have that gut wrenching grab all lyric - better to lay back and let the magnificent Ray do it for us!

  • Legendary!

  • Ray lost his hair but kept his voice.

  • @johntechwriter - A fair trade-off, I dare say!

  • Does anyone know if these Glaalstonbury tracks are available on CD or whetever?

The Choir really adds to the depth of the songs.

And yes, Cash900EX, I have to agree with you about the Kinks standing in the 60's. I was kicking around in the music business in London then and tended to ignore them too.

Perhaps it's simply nostalga that makes the tracks sound so good now! Or could it be superior production?

  • @luton606 You can probably still find the BBC TV broadcast online, but if you just like the choral arrangements then check out 'The Kinks Choral Collection'.

  • @DancingHenry

Henry, you are a Gentleman. Thank you very much.

  • @DancingHenry O.K.. So you are a double Gentleman already!!

  • The371 must be Friends of Ray - gotta admire Davies effort to keep going with limited talent. No doubt this post will create apoplexy from Ray's neighbours in Highgate but it is what it is. 60's kicked off with the Everlys & Elvis, then the Beatles exploded with the Stones (The Who was a live act really) - Roy Orbison finished the 60's with world wide fame along with Johnny Cash. Though the Kinks were a side show, they are almost more well known for the Davies' brothers tantrums - C'est la vie.

  • @Cash900EX you utter twat !! wash your mouth out and apologise immediately or a fatwah will be issued on your ass, the kinks are GODS my friend

  • Why have I become so old?

  • how the fuck did i not know they were there?! i was there!

  • Brilliant. i'm in tears.

  • @Photonzos me too

  • The deepest soul breathe from Albion.

  • The best song of the 60s. Easily.

  • whoa thats hell of a number of people

  • kinks were a brilliant band ..made some classics

  • 3:50. Macedonian Flag in the middle.

  • the roar at the end says it all .............

  • Great song of the 60s.

  • What did he say in the beginning?

  • @Gorrrillla5 something about getting screamed at to come off, I'm assuming they ran slightly over time

  • I like Bill Murray very much but I believe Americans can't play British music

  • ahaha isnt that Bill Murray on the lead guitar?

  • What does he say at the start that everyone boos?

  • I havent been to glastonbury since 1985 and couldnt tell you who was on, where bath festival 1970 though equally wet ,I could name all. at least they still have good stuff like this on ,as well as the 9 minute wonders.

  • I'd give everything I've got to see this man live.

  • This made me cry! Wonderful song from a wonderful musician in a wonderful setting. Sun shining, people happy, very laid back and something uniquely British about it, but then Ray/The Kinks always managed to encapsulate that in their music. They say the UK is f*ucked and sometimes it feels like it . When you see things like this it makes you realise there is still plenty to cheer in these little islands of ours.

  • @73jarl you and me both! Such a wonderful song

  • Incredible! When will Ray get recognized as the great songwriter that he clearly is?

  • @jimbush001 I think he just did jimbush, you're awesome for saying that!

  • Is that Elton John in the choir at 1.49?

  • This is the best performance of this by far

  • @Skankitup1234

  • @moneytimesfifteen No! He probably doesn't like the performance. Jesus, why are so many people so fucking retarded when it comes to the whole "like/dislike" thing?

  • @PhilSupernova88 aha I was just making a joke man, I think its sooooo dumb when people make anti dislike comments, especially bieber related ones

  • I now dance to this with my grandaughter! BIGGEST disappointment I wasn't at work the day you visited Orion about 3 years ago. C'est la vie - love you always.
