To be fair to him, the sound was shite for them... don't think the monitors were working properly, Priest who headlined had all sorts of problems... having said that, it's not the Geoff Tate of the 90's, that's sadly true. Still a great performer and a great band though.
I can't stand the way he sings this song these days. This song use to sound amazing. The vocal line use to be incredible, The band still sounds great, but Tate? He really shouldn't try to sing these old songs anymore.
@carltonec This "HD" video has horrible sound quality, but from what I can hear, Tate sounds as good as ever and sings the song like he always sang it. So what do you mean by "the way he sings this song these days"?
@frictiondrivebikes Well, that is what YOU hear. ;) What I hear is a guy who is singing poorly. I hear him going off key and singing with a style that I think butchers the old classics. It doesn't have anything to do with the quality of the video.
@GHILL5511 Plenty of singers still sound great in their old age. That is far from a valid excuse. The high end doesn't matter, it's what you do to make up for it. What he does sucks. Age does not explain going off key. Geoff, ever the rebel without a real cause, decided to smoke long ago. He is the first to admit that is a big no-no for singers, but he does it! Geoff knows there are plenty of groupies out there who don't care if he quacks like a duck or farts in the microphone.
@carltonec Point taken diidnt know he still smoked. That sucks I still like geoff now and then even thoug he was 10 times better in 84 and 85 he was the best ever!
@GHILL5511 In his day the man had no peer. He was truly a great singer, and nobody can ever take that away from him. But now? I'm sorry, to me the guy has completely ruined his instrument.
