@Lucky09366 there are three types of grunge... punk grunge, alternative grunge, and metal grunge... nirvana is punk grunge, soundgarden is alt grunge, alice in chains is metal grunge... n thats why i hate when ppl debate between them, they all have the grunge category, but different. nirvana started the grunge name period, n other bands used that style in different ways. but when it comes down to it nirvana is as grunge as grunge gets.

"grunge" band sounds so different from each other. I mean compare the melvins to pearl jam and you wouldnt think they even belonged in the same category. I think the only reason a lot of those bands got slapped with the grunge title was because they became popular during that era and they dressed the same way, but really its all just Alternative Rock.

I hate to burst your bubble but Kurt referred to his band as punk rock, because he thought that no other genre could describe his band. He saw punk rock as to mean "Freedom", in this instance he used it as a term form musical freedom. No band sounded like Nirvana, so yes he was punk rock. Grunge is just some bullshit term pulled out by sub pop, fuck what sub pop says I think Kurt Cobain can speak for his own godamn band.

@k4f3rdrum emo is not a whole invented genre. emo music is influenced by punk and metal and stuff, but it's pretty much a genre by it's own. if you sing about emotions and most of the time about death, if you are singing in an apathetic voice, if you play simple riffs that sounds stupid and "catchy", if your band's name is "dark" and "sad" and if all you wear is black clothes and mascara - congrats, you are an emo band.

And the old people didn't get it. So it was just our thing. 'Grunge' was a movement. That movement has passed and you can debate what the music sounds like or whatever. The Pumkins and so many more. Grunge was our thing.
