as far as i can recall, cram was better than coe at this time. Coe was past due, so GBR was left with Cram to fend...but still, this is the greatest 800m olympic fields asembled. Aouita the king, Cruz the defending champ, Ereng the NCAA Champ, Gray the american record holder and fastest time that year, and that italian guy

Coe should have been selected,a 800m specialist.Cram was world class over 1500m,but Coe was better than Cram over 800m.
