  • Still I can not believe that this occurred in a country like Germany.

  • Oskar Schinler is my hero ♥

  • Can anyone tell me what prayer the man is saying, and can you translate it? It's beautiful, and so haunting. I don't know any Yiddish. Thanks!

  • @Vladpryde It's the Friday night "kiddush", the grace over the wine. I'm sure you'll find a translation if you google something like "Kiddush translation".

Oh, btw, it's actually Biblical Hebrew, not Yiddish.

  • @lish1211 Got it, thank you!

  • Maybe the best movie ever made. I put this in front of movies like Pulp Fiction, Raging Bull and The Godfather.

  • Einfach nur Gänsehaut pur!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I wonder how many people get the symbolism here. At the start of this movie it is in color. It is the Sabbath but at the end. This family is reciting the prayers to end the Sabbath begin the profane secular time of the week b/f the next Sabbath comes. All the events of this movie occur over a symbolic or mystical week until it is Sabbath again at the end of the movie. Then color returnds w/ the Israeli national anthem.

  • No it was not H'tikvah, it was Jerusalem Shel Zahav. It is funny how the memory works. Of course, Jerusalem Shel Zahav was the anthem of the 6 Day War. Now Spielberg is a director who frets himself over every triffling detail of his movies. One must wonder what he was getting at in some details.

  • Actually the man is making Kiddush here at the beginning of the movie, which is said on the Sabbath evening. When the candle goes out it is still the Sabbath. I like your theory but it doesn't quite work here.

  • @mstein60

I don't speak Hebrew so I assumed about the prayers. It is still between Sabbaths though. If you watch the candles closely, they become progressively shorter. When they go out in their empty candlesticks, it is dark & in the room we the day light fade. also if color represents the Sabbath, what does the girl in the red dress represent?

  • @VictorLepanto

I see the candle more as the extinguishing of Jewish life in Europe. The Hebrew the man is speaking in Kiddush is a very European kind of Hebrew (ashkenazic pronunuciation). He is making a final Kiddush in Europe and as the color fades so does this chapter in Jewish life. It then makes sense that color returns with the rejuvenation of Jewish life in Israel.

  • @VictorLepanto

But the movie makes such central point about Schindler reminding the rabbi that it is Sabbath. Immediately after that the war ends (w/in the dramatic sequence of the movie that is) & mourning memorial for the dead begins. It is only after the this that the color returns to the anachronistic singing of Jerusalem Shel Zihav. It more about a mystical ascent to Mt. Zion in Jerusalem then a Zionist return to the land generally. Though that is included

  • Yeah uh, I forgot what this guy did.

...What exactly did Oskar Schindler do??

  • > Google

  • Oskar Schindler, a German business man who planned on profiteering off of Jewish labour during World War II, but in doing so saved over one thousand lives from certain death in the execution of "The Final Solution".

  • @Jalespino He saved 1,200 jews.

  • God bless Oskar Schindler

  • many thanks

  • Best regards!

  • im a jew,but i also respect hitler,if hitler wouldn't have persecuted we wouldn't have this beautiful composition.

  • lol

  • You must be out of your mind to have the courage to come here, and say something such as what you just posted!

    How can you respect evil?

You have a serious problem with your values young man.

You need to have a serious talk with your Rabi.

  • Are you totally nuts.!! You absolutley evil little person.!!!

You absolutley disgust me.!! Go and learn some history about the world.!!!

    You are beyond words.!!!

  • in remembrance to the victims of the shoah..i hope people learn & prevent such blunder from happening again.

  • They're doing a great job of remembering the lesson in Palestine.

  • @ThunderHenshin32

I do agree with you. Speak about the Holocaust is not too much. Remember again and again is better way to prevent an other tragedy.

  • @ThunderHenshin32

I do agree with you. Speak about the Holocaust is not too much. Remember again and again is better way to prevent an other tragedy. I'm Portuguese, catolic, and i thank the jewish people the remenbarence of Aristides de Sousa Mendes. Excuse my poor English. I hope you understand me.

  • @tapklm no problem, i understand what u meant; thanks for the reply. i guess you're from Brasil?? good country, culture & language.

yeah, reminder of the shoah at least in my part reminded me how fragile life can be.. this convinced me that saving a life can be much rewarding than committing murder for one's interest..also to save a life showed humility & love.. which tyrants / merciless people like the nazis won't be able to get.

    thanks again & G-d bless.

  • @ThunderHenshin32

I'm from Portugal. I do agree with you. One life, human or animal, are to preserve and help to grow not to kill.

  • please upload the shabbat song without theme =)

  • Israel 4ever

  • 0:35 'til 0:40 WHICH BAND USED THESE LINES LOOPED IN A SONG??! PLEASE HELP ME!!

  • yiiih! it's John 5 - Gods and Monsters! if anybodys interessted

  • Comment removed

  • this song makes me cry almost every time I listen to it, but it has a sad feeling to it. The Jews do deserve respect and I can feel how sad they felt when they were being treated badly. It gives me the spooks but I love this song anyway.

  • john williams did a beautiful theme. the music is haunting but an instant classic

    kudos man!

  • the guy in the beginning saying the blessings is the same recording that is on never again by remedy.

i hate that this horrible event ever had to happen (especially because i am jewish)

but at least now we can learn never again.

  • we usually don't learth though. look at the genocides that have happened since WWII (darfur, rwanda, afganistan under the taliban...)

  • thats true, but more is being done about those. less was done for the holocaust.

  • I still cant understand how "they" treated the jews ITS SATANIC???!!! its liberation day in my city amsterdam... I feel like HELL!!! the british didnt let the jews go to palastina, because they were working with the middle east... I fucking hate this world! nothing is more worse in the whole bloody history then what the jews and my family had to endure, are these moslims aware of what happen what the hell is wrong with them that they are still being hated??? then to me they are like the nazi's!

  • do you people even know what the number 6 000 000 really is??? how would you lke to see your own mother and father and brothers laying on each other naked?

  • This movie is a masterpiece that will be remembered and preserved a long long time ahead. Like cocbunny93 said, Jews deserves respect, not pitty. Same with black people. Why can't we get around what people think, behave or look like? Am I just being naive?

  • Jews have their respect. And what Hitler did will never be forgotten becasue the jew won't give people a moment to breath without bring him up. They make regular people relive the damn holocaust with them over and over and over again. I mean give it break already. You people are not the only ones to SUFFER on this cold planet called earth

  • A beautiful movie, probably my favorite.

  • the music is amazing! the movie is beautiful!

  • i would just like to say that people that caused all of the violence and hatred are now dead. and we now live in peace with jews, muslims, atheists christians , catholics etc. We all need the same things and want the same things for ourselves, we just go about getting them differently as twillightlily says people deserve respect.

  • not yet....... havn't u see what happen in Iraq or israel?

  • I can tell you Christians wouldn't care if teaching Christianity wasn't all but banned in public schools and now Evolution is being taught as fact.

  • Some people (*ahem* daideluxe) need to take a look at themselves. You're prejudiced and clearly unintelligent, as you don't even realize that Judaism is a religion, not a race. Furthermore, people like you cause the hatred and suffering in the world...people who thrive off of hate.

Whether you're a Christian like me or a Jew or an atheist, people deserve respect. Don't spread hate.

  • Oh give me a break. Get over yourself Bernie Madoff. You aren't the only peopIe who have suffered. The blacks had it just as bad or worst. So have the Japanese and Chinese and on and on.

I'm so sick of Jews feelin like we should pity them. It was tragic what Hitler did, yes. But it's over now. It's been over for YEARS.

Jews are not special. In fact didn't you kill Jesus Christ? Nice going Meyer Lansky.

Wait wasn't he an evil gangster too, just like Madoff? Everyone has suffered!

  • jews killed Jesus Christ? and you're saying that what Hitler did was long time ago and have been over for years!!!

Jesus was 2000 years ago... SO YOU GIVE US A BREAK!!!

  • Comment removed

  • I don't believe that we should be comparing the holocaust to slavery. They are nothing a like. Nazi Germany and the early US were both terrible. What Hitler did should not be forgoten. I do not believe that Jewish people deserve pity; they deserve RESPECT. Jesus Christ was infact Jewish. They Jewish people have been hated since before Jesus was born. So why don't you stop being so ignorant, Josef Mengele.

  • Comment removed

  • i actually did compare Schindler and the concentration camp officers who said "use them[jews] as much as u need" to slave owners at 1 point in the movie. b/c all he cared about was profit, and not the ppl. (but then that changed)

but why should jews deserve respect? i mean, any more than the average person, when s/he earns it. The fact that they have a history of being persecuted and Jesus being a jew aren't good reasons to respect someone.

  • The fact that Jewish people are Jewish isn't why you should respect them, it's the fact that they share this Earth with you and they are also human beings. I cannot believe the lack of respect that some people have...

  • yeah, they are ppl, but so what. i think respect is earned, it shouldn't be excpected just because ur human. what we owe each other is not to infringe on anybody else's rights, but nobody deserves respect just for being alive, unless they actually did something cool to deserve it.

  • we respect them because they have experienced and prevailed through one of the worlds greatest atrocities, and respect should not be earned it should be taken away. We should treat everyone with the same amount of respect unless they prove that they don't deserve it. To look at everyone assuming they don't deserve respect is nothing more then judging them because they are human.

  • the ppl who experienced WWII are mostly dead. and it wasn't only jews that were killed, in fact they weren't even the majourity of victums of WWII. but i guess your way of looking at it works too (how repsect should be distributed). except if we should treat every1 w/the same amount of respect than ppl who were abused don't deserve any more respect than the rest of us.

and wuts wrong w/ judging ppl b/c they r human? i'll make the same conclusion about every1 so no1 will b treated differently.

  • @cocobunny93

Thank you for this beautiful comment.

  • fuck....such a good song

  • yeah...

    John Williams is the man!!

  • I can't believe there are still people as stupid as daideluxe about... there may have been crueller things than the holocaust, but that doesn't make it any better! It just shows what terrible deeds humans are capable of.

And: Jews are not a race, it's a religion. And christians startet as terrible wars before.

Shocking that in a world as small as ours has become there are still so many prejudices...

  • apparently my statement was right...

we cant trust anyone but ourselves...

    it wasnt us opressing ourselves...

if you read some of the peoples comments...

    such as daideluxe...

must have skipped out on history class alot...fuckin moron...

maybe you should read or something...

the middle eastern conflict is the cause of Palastine...

    they started this whole thing...

  • Mate im talking about many of hundreds years befor that!!!! so read it up.... and stop acting like a muffet

  • one can see the type of character you are from your language.let me say to you the jewish people have survived the holcausts of history and the nazis are wrotting in hell .

  • Comment removed

  • this movie is boring.. like the whole jewish-history because its always the same.. in this world happened more cruel things as the holocaust

  • Saujuden

  • The bit that gets me every time is the scene near the end where the Jews in the Schindler factory celebrate (not sure if thats the right term to use) the Sabbath for the first time since their horrors began.

Oh and the bit at the end where Shindler breaks down in tears because he could have saved more lives and the factory workers pick him up and give him the letter they all signed. It is powerful stuff.

  • Schindler's List is an excellent movie. The movie of course is very sad and tragic...but it's what happend...you should take the time to watch it...hope you get as much as we do out of it.

  • this movie should be watched at least 6 times a year by every Jew...

to remind us what our people had to endure...

that we can't trust anyone but ourselves..

and to ALWAYS fight as one.

everytime i play this movie i cry from the second it starts till an hour after...

    those poor poor people.

i cant even begin to think how scared they were.

    Od lo avda tikvateinu.

  • QTboyy it saddens me that you feel that Jews should feel like they can't trust anyone but themselves. It is that attitude that is fucking up the middle East. Set the example and don't sink to there level.

  • with all respect...

    what has history taught us?

    every where we went...

    they threw us out.

    murderd us, in millions...

in all the history of the human race...

who were we able to trust?

they all turned their backs on us...

i do have many and trust many people that are not Jewish...

but i will say that no one else understands us unless youre one of us...and that i mean...in stone.

  • Comment removed

  • That scene touched me deeply too. I always cry at the end when the real survivors put the stones on the grave.

  • Indeed you should see this movie! Then you'll understand what hatred does to men. It's a lesson for all that hate Jews, Moslems, Christians or just any people on this planet.

  • In the scene at the beginning of the movie (exactly the time where this clip ends & while Schindler is getting dressed to go to the Nazi party) there is this nice music being played by the radio. Does anybody happen to know what the name of the song is? Thank you for letting me know.

  • It is a tango by Gaufmann played by Itzak Perlamn for Schindlers List. It was also used in the film "Scent of a woman". Enjoy!

  • This is an epic movie with a really great soundtrack:)

It's a must see, and this movie is really sad......

  • but thats not true.......

  • yea yea they suffer a lot now they make suffer other people

  • this movie is epic

  • dove posso trovare qusta canzone in formato mp3? non riesco proprio a trovarla nemmeno su emule..risp grazie

  • John Williams è davvero un grande!

  • This is my favorite movie of all time.

  • A movie that shows the suffering of the Jews during WW2 and how one man saves 1200. What a great movie this is.

  • This film is so amazing

I cant even imagen what thoes poor people sufferd!

This song it so funn of emotion too!

  • it wasnt supposed to be entertainment... it was supposed to bring out emotion, and sympathy to the people who suffered during this time period, it was meant as a tribute to the thousands who were wrongfully killed, it was meant to show the world what happened, show how even though there was evil in the world, there was still some good

  • deine mutter is good

  • belissima la musica =)=)

  • Its a bad time, a sad story and a wonderful song.

  • wonderful soundtrack from a great movie about the darkest chapter of german history... adjudging today's germans for something they haven't done - e.g. my grandma was 8 years old at the end of world war II - is only a sign of ignorance and intolerance from people who don't want to be acquainted with germans and deal with the present german culture. it's a real pity, because most people i know are open-minded and don't relate to the sterotype of the "typical german".

  • i think "our nazis" in germany don´t deserve to be called germans ..... germans are not so stupid like this guys!

  • Of course they don't deserve it.

    But it's what they are.

At least it's written in their passport...

Nazis who belive in Hitler's idelogoy don't even deserve to be called a human being.

No matter what origin a person has...

It's not the typical cliche of a German Nazis. Now there are other countries who also have to deal with this problem.

  • iam so sry what i wrote

  • o sorry, thought you are german...so I guess you are glad, NOT to be german ;-)

well, what I want to say is: only strong charakters can say "Iam sorry what i wrote"!

ok, and France...and Great Britain, USA, the rest of the world...THEY DID NOT HELP...until it was to late! The Jews couldnt escape, there were only very limited visas for palästina or england or brasil or anywhere.

  • beste filmmelodie wo gibt von der welt.

habab: it is not our fault that 6 millions of jews died in that time...our ancestors did that mistake...and this was the biggest mistake they ever did! but you can´t give us the guilt for these mistakes. Im sorry about the dead people and im happy that this time is over and i hate this "germans" who call themselves nazis too! but i dont think you hate every german...please think about your words

  • im sorry about it...thats all i can say...i dont try to justify me...but i cant make the killed people alive...thats what i wanted to say...if there is a way to do that i would do this way

  • You're ignorant Dark, he's trying to say that German's now are not proud of what happened and were no part of it, and al Germans are not Nazis. Of course he feels the pain! Anyone with a heart does, think before you act ignorantly, just like he was saying!

  • Before you critisize a stranger as an ignorant person read my former messages, please.I just wanted to say that you have to respect the opinion of others even though you now that they are wrong. If you're not willing to do this you won't be able to act better than them. Of course it's a shame to write those things but you don't know him. Maybe he lost his whole family and he's just angry til now.

Maybe he didn't thought about his words.

Who knows.Don't you say stupid things when ur angry?

  • Yes yes, but you ask, "Why do all Germans try to justify them?" No one tries to justify Nazis and by asking this, you make it sound as if you are convicting all Germans of being Nazis, while Jimmy is saying otherwise.

  • Oh you got me totally wrong!I didn't mean that he tries to justify Nazis. All people have responsibility for what happened. Not just Germany. And people still have this responsibility today even though they didn't live in the thirties. They have to say ,,NO" against rasicm and I wasn't talking about Germany.I was talking about the whole word!

Rasicm isn't abolished but hopefully something like the second world war won't happen again.I never said that all Germans are Nazis.Gosh what were you reading

  • "I hate Germany" is the twin of "I hate Jews" They come from the same family and they walk the same road. The root of all evil are neither Germans nor Jews. The root of all evil is hating people you don't know.

  • I think the same like Ramaonia, i´m german, too. even if there are some stupid guys in germany, we are doing a lot to show that we live in a new time ... without crime against jewish people ... but it isn´t easy (habab1992 is a example for the people wich don´t like to forgive our grandparents and hate the "new" germany too ...)

    (i´m sorry, english isn´t easy =))

  • Oh, I'm German and I think, it's very terrible, what the nazis did. But this was before my time, and I think people should forgive us now. The people, who did the terrible things at that time, are dead now and I think we're really better than them and wouldn't do such a sh**.

  • Every people could do "such a ...."

Humans are just easy to influence...

Although there were some like Bonhoeffer who were against the regime...

And in Russia and Italy are NOW even more Nazis than in Germany.

And there are still KZ in some places of the world. If Habab1992 wants to be angry at someone...than be angry to humanity.

Because we all have to shame for our behaviour.

No matter it was ,,before our time"...-.-

  • exactly...

  • Schindler was German....

And with this attitude you aren't better than the Nazis. Because they hated a whole people, too.

  • yes its true but iam a jew...one cannot forgive the Germans

  • thanks....

  • well i can say that i NEVER have cried in movies but THIS one touched my soul. my parents are from poland and i had the luck to be in Auschwitz and see the whole Holocaust. It touched my soul like never anything before...

  • one Of my favourites movies .. makes me cry :.D

  • this movie has the HTE greatest of all time. there was never a movie as groundbreaking, touching, and true as schindler's list. The godfather was good, citizen jane was good, and the good, bad and ugly was as well. But, none of them left a mental dent in your head like this movie.. Then again, its just my opinion.

  • i seen this today at skool for the holocaust unit

  • Sokxandcasty, hast du dir mal überlegt was du sagst?

  • this movie is in TOP/ 10

  • This is the most beautiful version of the song I've heard. What a musician!... God bless you! I love the contrapuntal and harmonic detail. It's different from the version of the movie soundtrack that I know. Was it John Williams himself or someone else who wrote this? Both the solo piano and orchestral sections sound as if coming from heaven. After hearing this version I am loosing my sleep...PLEASE, does anyone know where I can get the score of this particular version? Many thanks for any help.

  • Love this movie and the history form second war, my countri was not there but I suffer when I think about it so many judes died and all for nothing but fulfil a mind of a crazy man and a unhuman population...
