Just another dickhead - Trudeau was a "liberal" - communists were a different breed, and anyone who can't tell the difference should just shoot themselves now,, and save society the trouble...
@GOUGOUNETTE Il y a eu 2 versions de cette chanson. L'un était principalement en anglais avec un peu de français et l'autre a été renversée. C'est quoi le problème?
Bobby Gimby--the man with the cape and jeweled trumpet in the video, is the composer of the song CA-NA-DA. This song united Canada (especially the French with the non-French) all proceeds and profits were donated by Bobby to the Boy Scouts of Canada. He was a hero and my uncle!
Me too, I stumbled just by chance onto this song on youtube. Almost fell off my chair when I heard it, haven't heard it since I was a kid back in '67 !
My aunt and her husband lived there in Montreal in 1967. My cousin Gilley was born that year. They did not go to the Expo 67 place until 1968. I wish I was living in the summer of 1967. That was the best time to be in Canada and the most proudest time to be Canadian, even before Trudeau was Prime Minister.
In 1967 when I was 8 years old this song was played all the time. I went to Expo 67 and it was the greatest event ever. Everyone was so proud to be Canadian.
My god this takes me back.. I was 5 and remember all the hipe during that time. Even at 5 I remember just how proud the country was. What a great flash back.. Thanks..
I wasnt born yet.. but does anyone remember a pavillion with the crystal scull and ufos bigfoot etc..?? Ive been wondering what the name of the pavillion was for years.. I went in 1976. anyone??
We sang this song all the time in music class in elementary school. I still have the sheet music. Then who else can remember the Centennial Caravans that came to town, and the Centennial Train? I loved those traveling Caravans.
@phuckizlam i remember all of those things too. the train had a car with seasick people on it and it smelled like puke. always remember that. great name you have by the way!
@snottydyck Oh, and I forgot to mention the round centennial medallion we got in school. I still have it somewhere. And my user name? Yes, we must remember this is first and foremost CANADA. People may come here to live and enjoy our rights and freedom, but not to replace OUR way with THEIR desert mind-set and sharia laws.
On the contrary, I put a great deal of thought into my comment. I never said I thought the oppositions could defeat him, I was merely implying that he embodies a sensibility quite different from that of 30 or 40 years ago and that when he addresses the idea of "Canada's greatness" in the world, he is doing it from a stance that is entirely of his own orchestration. Like him or no he is a new species of politician...and yes. next to him Brian still looks like a party boy.
Like Harper or not, his sensibility (particularly about the environment, birth control/Women's autonomy, Canada as peacemaker, etc.) is drifting from many of the proactive ideologies that flowered in the late 60's and early 70's in Canada. He seems to think we have this great reputation in the world but he's resting on the laurels (the maples?) of the past while all the while diverting us to the right (and to the jaundiced eye of world opinion). Next to him Mulroney looks like a swinger!
O wow just amazing I was only 8 then. I thought I died and went to heaven. I lived on military Bases on the Prairies, I had never imagined any thing like what I saw, I will never for get it
I can't get over how futuristic Expo '67 was - the way everything looked, and the way everybody looked - a very stylish, experimental age. Unlike, um, you know... the Age of Reduced Expectations. Otherwaise known as the Harper Era.
@thistorontoguy Yes, thiese were the days when Montreal was the 'international city'. Sad that the beloved Expo '67 has little left to its 'futuristic' legacy. Following the ill-fated '76 Olympics, the Canada's focus turned to Toronto as its 'city of the future'. Having said that, nothing Toronto has ever done compares with the impact of Expo '67. The spirit of Expo must live on!
Why do you leftist vermin always want to make everything political? Expo 67 was the very peak of Canadian society, a wonderful, world-class event that showed what we could do. I was lucky enough to live in Montreal at the time, and attended several times.
Now, of course, our once great nation is falling apart at the seams, and SOME people are cheering that fact. The USSR may be dead, but you've still got N.K. Go live there.
@Polaris912b I don't know why they feel compelled to inject political crap into this either, what Expo 67 has to do with it I will never know. What I do know is that in many ways Canada took a turn for the worse a handful of years later, which we still haven't completely recovered from.
Whatever the case, this came out a year before Trudeau. Like Pierre Berton said, it still feels like '67 was the 'last good year' - and I wasn't even born yet! Ah well.
If people play this song more often, Canada might just start having a new string of 'good years'.
this song has dream and hope to their furture, but now we lost hope and dreams in our life, sowe must get hope ,dream adn furture again! this is good way to live in love and peace!

Great song from our Centennial year. I used to like listening to the French side, since French sounded so exotic and cool to my ears back then!
