  • What is the actual song they're playing in the vid... Anyone know? Cheers

  • Great single, the white clothes are very proto-droog!!!!!!

  • great to see this, i've got a couple of vinyl albums incliuding the Orgasm lp. Wasn't Geoff in the band when this was filmed? Sad about Chris.

  • Is Bolan's face in this vid at all?

  • What IS the actual music/song on the video?

  • Like Performance directed by Anthony Balch

  • @wcso2012 Ha!

  • 2 people couldn't get an Orgasm while watching this

  • 60's prime mind blowing psych

  • Nice clear transfer on the film with good color! Thanks for sharing, now the band says this is stuff not used throwaway edtis..where are the good edits, and what were they used for?

  • This was a great track. I actually thought John's Children's were better without Marc Bolan. This was their best single.

  • Thanks for some other gems, Andy. (I love Cornflake zoo). This is certainly a seminal group.

  • The original White Whale label single of Smashed Blocked is absolute, utter perfection. Few seemed to realize then (and even now) what a courageous move this song made by arbitrarily genre-hopping from psych to doo wop. Pure genius!

  • its sounds like FranCoise Hardy (Dylan';s muse) why are they all left-handed?? the editor was the one that wasn't supposed to do drugs...what went wrong and wher is BOLAN>??

  • Comment removed

  • This seems to be a compilation of outtakes and off-cuts from the session

  • pop art!

  • Totally rulin. Never thought to search for this, since I assumed such a clip simply didn't exist! Easily in my top 10 singles of the 1960s. Thanks for posting.

  • the drummer seems like he's trying to act like keith moon. but other than that omg! these guys sound and look fucking awsome!

  • YJMproductions:

    Seems like ???

    LOL.

Chris Townson (RIP) was the only drummer ever to replace Keith Moon on a Who tour while Moon was still alive.

  • lol really, i didnt know that. to bad these guys didnt last long.

  • Viv Prince from The Pretty Things filled in for Moon on several occasions in late '65. Which is funny because Keith took a good deal of his schtick straight from the Viv Prince playbook. Look up the Pretties early '65 appearance in Blokker, Holland here on YT for evidence.

  • The drummer Chris Townson was the best Keith Moon drummer I've ever seen next to Keith Moon. Totally underrated. He never got his due. I saw him in concert while vacationing in the UK with the reformed Johns Children and he was awesome visually and soundwise.

  • They wasn't much better with Bolan. Do remember they was sent home from the tour they were doing with The Who after only two gigs. (They had to use studio musicians on the albums, since Hewlett couldn't play bass.) But both Townson and Ellison is beyond incredible, check out Jet or Radio Stars instead!

  • no bolan...no good...sorry they are lacking a voice...and that voice is the child star

  • even with Bolan these guys are always overrated amongst the obscurer UK acts of the time

  • They had their moments, but they seemed to rely more on cheap publicity stunts more than musical ability. What else can I say? I've heard better and I've heard worse.

  • agree 100%

  • fucking cool, looking fucking cool as fuck.

  • I've only come across John's Children. What a great sound. God knows how loud it must have been! Let's not forget this was NOT Marc Bolan's band. This was a band that had Marc Bolan as a member and not for long.

  • lol. I've got the original acetate cut of their "Orgasm" LP. It cost me 800 quid in 1982..wanna buy it?...$US15000

  • Marc is not in this vid, what a shame!

  • im hrny =X. if ne1 wants 2 chat just msg me. my messenger id is in profile. X

  • I don't understand this equation. hrny=x? I was never any good at mathematics, but this seems most peculiar to me. Does each letter have a particular value? But if that is the case, then why does the sum equal x? Perhaps I need a abacus.

  • That betch hacked my user. Just ignore her.. =/

  • Hay! I never tried it until my friend Henry the Horse turned me on. They do say that if you weren't there, you can't remember it. Well, I wasn't there, then, obviously, innit.

  • This is strange film clip, that Chris, John and myself (Andy Ellison) filmed for our first single, at the then famous, basement, 'Establishment Club' (Peter Cooks, satirical venue in Greek St Soho), 1967. The clip is made up from bits of film left on the cutting room floor. A technician must have kept them. And Somehow they have made it to utube! No Idea what happened to the proper film. SMASHED was a mod term for drunk and BLOCKED was a mod term for being pilled up (high on amphetamines).

  • @johnschildren GREETINGS Andy!!!

  • @johnschildren Why am I just now hearing you guys???? The sound is killer.

  • hay I never listened to any of there music until now they were good singers

  • wow! I thought this was just a made-up clip not a real promo...cool!

  • Seven guitarists and a quarter of a bass player, if you ask me.

  • My Dad, Chris Townson, is the lovely young thing on the drums.. sadly he passed away on February 10th this year. I can safely say he and Marc are creating musical magic wherever they are... x

  • in this video, which one is marc? i agree that marc and your dad and all the others who are in rock and roll heaven are jamming together. i have this wonderful fantasy of two of my very diverse favorites, karen carpenter and kurt cobain doing a duet somewhere.

  • @rizzle83 only just read your post about your dad...:(

  • @rizzle83 may he rest in peace. Your Dad was (and is) an awesome drummer from a truly great band.

  • @rizzle83 amazing drummer, what a great recording, so utterly transcendental.

  • @rizzle83 My condolences on your loss. Your dad s drumming on this mod anthem was awesome.

  • @rizzle83 R.I.P. this music has brought many hours of pleasure to many people!

  • Chris Townson was in Jook too, wasn't he?

  • RIP Mr Townson. Sadly missed......

  • Ive said it before, ill say it again. Chris Townson-absolute legend. xx

  • This band had three guitarists and half a bass player. Funny stuff.

  • Then B.Ö.C must send you into an epileptic seizure!

  • THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!!!!!!!!

  • LOVE John's Children! Proto-punk insanity! Just check 'Jagged Time Lapse', 'Perfumed Garden of Gulliver Smith', 'Midsummer Night's Scene' or anything they did as a BAND (this was actually recorded, I BELIEVE, with just Andy Ellison! No other members!). Wild, noisy stuff, especially during the Bolan period!

  • Syd Barret took some tips from them.I know €8~o

  • I'm sure there was more than a little cross influencing with many of the bands at this time. Bolan was very much influenced by Barrett.

  • I was replying to PAULONDEN's comment, if it matters. Not sure how I ended way up here. :)

  • It happens to us all Syd,

small price to pay for this

    Sound & Vision heaven.....«d-_-b»....

  • These guys were true Radio St@rs ,I can't get enough after 40 years. ):-]

  • What's your point?

  • Unlike you Geraint, you're a huge rock star.

  • I dont think Bolan was in them when they recorded this..I gotta disagree. This is a lost 60's classic and had it been recorded by the likes of the stones would have been the smash hit it deserved to be. Pure tension, and what a great title...

  • my lengendary orgasm lp is my pride and joy

  • I read about those in Simon Napier-Bell's book, so it was a treat to find them here and see/hear what they were all about. Thanks for posting !

  • Love it!xxLizxx

  • Brilliant song, brilliant film clip! Thankyou for posting! One question- is this clip 'reversed' or they all actually left-handed?

  • Johns Children should be right up there with Rory Storm and the rest, ya know. Love the white shirts and tiny crosses!!

  • THANKS!!!!!

  • John's Children playing live @ the Inn on the Green in London- Saturday 19th May! • Hey Deborrah , how was it . By the way ,I got amint copy of Desdemona ( picture sleeve) Radio STars rule too ,

  • Amazing! Amazing!! Amazing!!!

    Yes!!!

  • BRILLIANT! Along with the now deleted '69 tv clip of Slade doing "Wild Winds Are Blowing" this is the BESt thing I've EVER seen on YouTube. Amazing, thanks for posting this!! Who cares if it's backwards and out of synch. Brilliant!

  • Chris Townson.. legend.

  • This clip was a real suprise. My God did Andy have a great voice! Just such a great group, and the Orgasm LP is a whole hell of a lot better than people say it is. Sure there is lots of phoney aplause, but the songs are fantastic. By the way, if any of you mods get a chance to buy their single Smashed Blocked on USA White Whale, flip it over for song which was big inspiration for Blur's Parklife!

  • He was hanging out with Desdemona

  • where was marc bolan?

  • This was released about a year before Marc Bolan joined. The guitarist would have bee the original,Geoff McLerllend who was sacked in favour of Marc.Does anybody have copies of the other two John's Children promos, for Desdemona and Come And Play With Me In The Garden?

  • booted out by then, my friend has a comp without him and she had no idea marc was in with them...

  • There should be a video for "A Midsummer's Night Scene" but this was already cool enough *_*

Their drummer reminds me of Keith Moon. Wow! Instant love!

  • of all the obscure stuff on youtube, this is one video that i never expected to find (despite doing a weekly search for john's children clips). but it was very hard to find, i only stumbled across it by chance, so it's a shame more people haven't seen this. thanks secam4, this is pure brilliance.
