  • This has been my 3rd comment [as I cannot write short stories] in my 1st comment re;Unable to visit my past as "ROTATION"{& RISE"] played such a part --[since the 80's] !!I So I FINALLY GRABBED THE "DEFINITIVE HITS" C/D Purchased 2007] I told my driver to place this on his "IPOD" 1st thing he plays when I get in the car -cont'd- Michael-Jackson's having received Award w/Quincy Jones.[80's] {Golden Globe?} I shall never forget those happier days...I pray Michael is not Lost

  • I've adored Mr.Herb Alpert since I was 16,,Until now I could only envision his fingers- his gestrures- his persona his deep sense of emotional & spiritual understanding especially having overcome his bout w/ depression & how his wife helped him "RISE" from that once lonely place {A-DEFINITIVE-TITLE "RISE" I related to that] "ROTATION" ALWAYS -B- MY FAVORITE soft jazz piece one of the few absolute greatest instrumentals' -for the 1st time able to see & hear him MOVE & Converse cont'd

  • "ROTATION" from -back in the day- the really Great Days of my life Friends today will say "remember Jennifer,,she used to play thet song Over & Over ,she even "Rigged my stereo!! kept going to the song!! After I bought "Definitive Hits"" "For" Rotation" was I hearing right -- I don't remember it like this" BUT NO WAY WAS I DISAPPOINTED" I waited 4 yrs after I was emotinally ready to hear it again ALL "Mr Herb A.-Albumns -SAVED {vcr] Tape/80's Awards/Michael J received Award/w/Quincy CONT'D

  • It was so AWESOME the owner of the hottest record label at the time could just hop in his old convertible and drive anywhere. Those were such good times, or of course they sucked a lot better, as I love to say...

  • Gives me so many nice associastions, it is corner-stone in my past ..the seventies one of a kind...=)

  • Herb hit #30 in Billboard, 1-19-80. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! Shalom, Herb!

  • as steamy hot as it always was - whew!

  • Great music like this will never be written again!

  • My first time hearing this amazing jaaammm...a close second to RISE...thank you for posting...

  • So powerful I could nearly cry

  • What's the name of this tune? Don't know if somebody already wrote it, but I don't see it and I want to download it.

This is some kissass music! I don't remember hearing it too often.

  • If we wil come to a "winning song" when" the sun goes down on earth"...this is the BIG WINNER..!!!!!!!

  • I've got the original album which amazingly hasn't worn out from being played so often ! Very sexy music...

  • bad ass jam

  • Als ik deze plaat hoor......Memories......

  • I HAVEN'T HEARD THIS IN YEARS! I HAD THIS ALBUM!

    THANKS FOR POSTING THIS!

  • Man, how cool was Herb? Being able to lay it down like that AND bring us the Carpenters? Man knows his music!

  • this music is so amazing, just listen to that arrangement!

  • Herb, YOU KICK ASSES!!!!

  • ROTATION and RISE, SEX ON LEGS!!!

  • At 1:10... that is the drummer for the band "The Outfield." before they formed in the 80's

  • They are High as hell. And thats cool, then laying down a smooth jam like this.

  • @ 0:07 the house on the oceanside, that house was what used to be Pamela Anderson's house back in the late 90's. I used to show up for Pammy's Booberang Sessions.

This sounds like a Gato Barbieri-inspired song.

    Dr.

  • @elbakara i forgot to add that song sounds like one big intro, it doesn't really go anywhere

  • never knew there was a video for this! thanks for posting!

  • this is totally going to be sampled in some chillwave/glo-fi song

  • I didn't know James Garner played trumpet.

  • Hit #20 soul, #23 AC, #30 pop in Billboard. God bless!

  • This song gives me shivers. Herb Alpert is a genius. Why doesn't he do more?

  • @Christoftheshaven You're only shivering because you haven't had a martini yet today. Fix yourself a stiff one and try to settle down a bit. Then go check out my band's new video of the classic Herb Alpert song "Tijuana Taxi" if you really want to hear some instrumental music played properly.

    Go ahead now...

  • This tune was so far ahead of it's time. No doubt Herb and the band had a few excellent smoking sessions before laying down these Groovalicious tracks.

  • Wow, I just got goosebumps hearing this again, it's been so long. I think I was the only kid (or person at ALL) who knew this song when it was current. It's too bad the masses sleep on so much good music - then AND now.

  • i was 11 years old and this song would make me daydream. i would play it on those old album spinners that would re-play itself and i would have blissful dreams.truly soulstirring music that todays youth are missing.

  • When I was fresh out of school and dating, this was the first "Our Tune" I ever danced to. Gods, she was hot. This track just turned her on. Thanks, whoever posed this. You just made my year. :)

  • i wood dance too this and boy could i dance

  • this is very very good indeed

  • just a pure classic....the start of a new craze!!!!

  • ...so righteous

    ...sing me that horn

  • I heard this magnificent song and others on the radio when I was 13-14-year-old but never knew who was the author of them. Only 29 years after I knew who was Herb Alpert, thanks to YouTube and thanks to who has posted these songs. What a terrific composer and performer!

  • Wonderful! I was a 16-year-old in high school when this came out, and I had to have that album. This was a terrific treat to find here--thank you so much for posting it!

  • Thank you for posting this video - I always loved this tune!

  • ...dang!

...vintage wine, this man and his horn

    ...has stars in his eyes

  • Fabulous music!

  • I have a friend in Romania who is fond of "techno" music. I tell her this is where it started...

  • @whoof1

Nope, "I Feel Love" by Donna Summer, produced by Giorgio Moroder back in 1976 was the first techno record.

  • Awsome ! ! Is this the orignal artist? I was just listening to di.fom when I heard the following version 9also posted on ytube -> Clan Greco - Rotation (Eric kupper mix) and had to find out more about this song.. Simply ahhh... awsome ! :) much love to all !

  • @sandraguca Thanks for pointing out the Clan Greco version. I just listened to it... pretty interesting! And yes Herb is the original.

  • This was house music before the term was invented!

  • M-U-S-I-C-A-!

  • NOW, THIS IS MUSIC , HELL YEAH!

  • beautiful, soothing, great music. !!

Dovresti trovarlo in giro.

  • What a tune!

  • this tune is like an obsession.. It's the perfect score to wake up in the morning. Thank you so much for uploading!

  • quanti ricordi!!!!!!.....troppo bella insieme a Rise...erano e rimangono due chicche MERAVIGLIOSE....:-)

  • cose dell'altro mondo

  • ..:))) super davvero.

  • spettacolo !!! ...:)))

  • Non ci sono parole ... assolutamente uno dei più bei pezzi indipendentemente dal genere ...

  • So cool, so melodic...

  • Get funky y'all........

  • Questa era la sigla finale delle serate al Chicago disco di baricella e io dalla mia camera da letto la sentivo e mi piaceva molto poi non ricordo come ma ho trovato il disco in vinile originale e me lo sono comprato

  • il migliore

  • wow, this brings back some good memories.

  • Better than "Rise"...this song is soooo underrated!!!

  • @MzMeanE WELL, IT'S NOT 'BETTER", THAN 'RISE", IT RANKED RIGHT THERE WITH "RISE"... BUT, HEY!!!!; TO EACH HIS/HERS OPINION!!!!!...

  • @syndicate1 I agree it's not better, completely different song and vibe.

  • genial!

  • good song x )

  • Posso solo dire che mi fà ritornare quando ero un ragazzo con i capelli lunghi ricci e messo bene

  • hipnotic

  • Subliminal

  • I remember smoking the herb.... While listening to Herb. especially the tunes Rotation and Rise.

  • hehehehe....

  • hahahahah

  • there's a lot of herb I like but there's even more herb that I don't, As a horn player myself, I found in a lot of his earlier work there's a lot of lazy loose lipped style of playing which I couldn't get on with, especially if you compare with the guys that used to be with Stan Kenton or Harry James even.

  • Otra muy buena musica de Sr. AlbertO... enjoy, especially for those special moments in life...

  • Joy.

  • I got to know this song from SATC. I really appreciate the person who is responsible for the music for that program. This one is especially cool.

  • is puro sex

  • un genio

  • Brilliant. The trumpet in the right hands is totally amazing.Cant understand why there isn't more of it about.I think Mark Isham plays amazing trumpet, but havn't been able to locate any of his stuff-trumpet-playing.

  • Uplifting feel good stuff,nice one that.Thanks

  • I love it. Herb Alpert is great music. Thanks!!

  • This song is one of the GREAT ONES! They played it at the end of a SEX and the City Episode and I have been searching for it since and here it is. I can listen over and over....Awesome!!!

  • This is freaking awesome. Great video.

  • greatest rythm, greatest style, greatest music........just awesome man........I also like Rise and Fandango...Fandango the most because of its Latin touch, check em out too :)

  • Another Video Concert Hall memory.

  • My mother loved Herb. I´ve got the whole tape, (reel to reel) collection. I was brought up with his music. This one was one of my favorite songs in my senior year, (1980...) with a touch of funk.

  • Herb Alpert.... A True Class Act, A National Treasure, a Musical Renaissance Man, his beautiful and lovely and gracious wife is the wonderful singer Ms. Lani Hall....

  • I was seven when this came out and I it was one of the first songs I ever remember. I've always measured music since then against this on a "Sexy Sounds" scale. It set the bar.

    Thank you for posting!

  • The dutch (holland) Dj ben liebrand made a remix of this master piece. this is just G8

  • Thirty years ago.....this was great piece of art.......!!!!!!!

Now....thirty years later......this is stillllllllll an even bigger piece of art....

Thirty years ago..listening to this song..I was a little bit bad......nowadays....still hearing this song , being worser than ever....

Thanx for keeping up going this real spirit...

....by giving this art a place on this site...

  • does anyone else get "Goosebumbs" listening to this most awsome piece of Art!!! dammmmmmnnnnnnnn!11111111111111

  • you're damn right... That was the same thing I was thinking..

  • what a memory (Pit's souterain)

  • Pure nostalgia. Thank you for posting this video. 10/10 !!!!

  • Excelente, este fue uno de los grandes temas que lo conoci en el famosos programa "Disco Club" aqui en Peru, de la mano del gran Maestro Gerardo Manuel.

Gracias por ponerlo en la red.

  • herb truly does kick ass music love everything he does

  • Boss

  • for my jimmy, who i love the most!!

  • got info out of joel whitburn top 40 book. great investment!

  • i hear ya steadfastcoward!

  • But one thing--the conga dude definitely looks stoked ;-p

  • Add Rise and Highway 101, Aranjuez, Beyond plus Jump Street and maybe not having Chick Corea or Miles Davis on your iPod simply wouldn't matter at all. Herb went from pop to electric funk-jazz and it was natural to him...Harry James would be so proud of what he did for the trumpet!

  • thanks so much for posting! love this great song! in the 6th grade when this came out. heart broken first time during this period but that girl and of course this song and other music from this era bring a smile to my face! fyi- this song hit the top 40 on 12-22-79 and stayed in top 40 for 6 weeks and reached it's highest point at 30.

  • I used to copy American Top 40 with Casey Kasem for the Billboard charts religiously each week but that was long gone and I'd forgotten all that info. Thanks and don't forget to keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars!

  • I don't believe I could thank you enough, so I subscribed. This is sheer bliss.

  • Incrível a melhor música de todos os tempos.

The Best Music in the world.

Someboy have a midi file this track?

  • Absolutely amazing. I remember about 13 years ago when i 1st heard this (i was about 6!) I was just blown away.

  • cooooool

  • Herb is STILL the GREATEST.. What a man !!! Just think a $200.00 dollar investment into what became a multi billion dollar independent record label A&M. I had the pleasure of meeting him in 1979 @ Peaches records and tapes in Atlanta.. What a thrill.

  • I remember "Peaches Records" that was the best record store, HUGE!! Would I love to have all of those giant lp posters they had all around the store!! We are older, wiser & have more money now at want our "PEACHES" back!! CDs suck!! Vinyl Rules!! I STILL HAVE MY "PEACHES" CARRYING RECORD SACK.
