You'd be surprised how often an opponent in urban or woodlands territory will try to clinch or just run at you. A good hip throw can do wonders. Once your enemy is on the ground, you can stab, shoot, or stomp on him. Or cave his skull in with a rock or the butt stock of your rifle.
:O You're basically saying that once a "grappler" grabs me i'll just become totally compliant and let him man-handle me. No way, sir.
If a guy is stupid enough to put BOTH hands on my clavicles he's no grappler. Both hands occupied(doing nothing), he leaves his groin wide open for a knee.
All i am saying is if you have an enemy perfectly set up for a fight-ending strike don't be stupid and push him away giving him another chance to kill you, because he will try.
Ahh but you see, what I'm trying to say is you don't actually have a choice against a good grappler whether you want to get man handled or not.
I totally understand where you are coming from though, he does leave himself wide open, but not for long..well an experienced grappler wouldn't. they wouldn't grab you for the sake of grabbing you. they know what they're doing.
by not being compliant, you are breaking away.
i admit pushing away is kinda silly, but the break is the opener.
From there he should have showed something to end it like you said.
I would say though the purpose of that push is because it's so simple to perform, it's simple to beat into your body in a frantic situation. these techniques are complex and people may not remember them. something like a push can help get distance and compose yourself.
for me and i'm guessing for you too though, we'd just end it.
i totally agree with your statements though, he will try and kill you again, so end it :) thumbs
Maybe, your assailant is someone wearing full protective clothing, and your only chance of killing him would be to push him away and equip a secondary weapon such as a pistol or knife.
@skooterkid It wasn't a push. It was a punch to his throat. He just PUSHED with it instead of punching because he didn't want to hurt the other guy. Trust me, even just pushing the throat with your knuckles will work. And guys who learn collar chokes and think Submission Wrestling is all that really will do that. Don't ask me why. But let someone grab you like that, try as hard as they can to choke you. Then put your knuckles on his throat and push with the arm real hard. He'll let go.
Surely, i'll agree with that. A solid punch or chop to the throat is no joke, but i didn't see a strike to the throat in the demonstration. What we all see in the video is, in fact, a push technique.
That being said, how can you be positive that it was supposed to be a throat punch? Where did you get that information?
@skooterkid As stated, he PUSHED against the throat because it was practice. Second, many of these techniques are found in various other military systems. Most notably, several of these techniques are exactly the same as the Old US Army Combatives Program, of which my father learned in the army and he has taught me for self-defense purposes. They're in the FM 21-150. My father taught me that technique. Eye gouging, throat shots, and groin shots were what he taught me to counter chokes like that.
If you look closely at 1.01, he has a stick in his hand, which he slips between his legs so that he pulls his legs out from under him with it. Believe it or not, it actually works. I'm a soldier IRL on my second deployment, and it's a method the MPs use for detaining prisoners at times.

Sometimes it's good to get distance to the opponent, and the technique work.

0:46...why would you ever do a foolish thing like that? Can someone make sense of that?

I wasn't referring to the beautiful hip throw.
I was referring to the tiny push right at 0:46.
Hip throws are great.

You'd know why if you got into a fight with a grappler. once he grabs you it's over. so break away....if you can.

Fantastic!
And while you have that distance on your enemy, take that opportunity to pull out a fire arm or gigantic knife. :)
