  • Understand, this world is place of business, no matter what field of career you choose, you are meant to sacrifice in some kind of way, in consumer words you would say that person is trying to set an example but again in reality we're all slaves to society if you want to make money.

  • So basically pennies for supplying all the creative and intellectual talent.

Sounds like a good deal to me. Not.

  • Damn.. Ellen DeGeneres knows a LOT about the music biz..

    Seriously, though. STFU & listen.

  • @planetery thats not Ellen...... hahahahah lmaoo

  • Listen to this woman and also get your self a book called "All I Need To Know About The Music Business" If you have not been signed to a major record label or you are not a attorney who secures record contracts with record company's then do not make waves in uncharted territory as you do not know what you are talking about.

  • She is telling it strait up, I know first hand record company's are very funny if they decide not to release a project but keep your music tied up it's called sitting you on the bench. Many record company's play a trick on artist it's called keeping the talent off the street. They will sign a singer or a act and do nothing with them to keep another record company from signing them and making competition. It's not fair but it's the way things are done in the music business.

  • The music industry system sucks these days!!

  • OMG can you idiots listen Im a Christian myself all of the music industry is not ran by satan If you believe in GOD you have no time for all that jazz. This lady is educating us pay attention

  • Everything she said in this video is the reason why commercial music industry SUCKS!!!

  • @KatManDude ...What this man said is 100% correct

  • Wow this lady is CRAZY

  • are you going to bag her out or listen to her? you think there was going to be a silver lining? you all sound like the whinging spoilt bitches that they didnt want to be in the room with. grow up. you HAVE TO work hard for anything worth any value. this is how to get aheaddont like the rules? dont play the fucking game.

  • She isn't being entirely truthful here. The record company can simply decide not to release any of your music because they don't "hear a hit," but that doesn't mean you get to walk away and have another label put out your album. They still own you until THEY decide they don't own you anymore. If they want to tie you up so that no one else can sign you, they can do that. At some point your career is dead and THEN they release you. Good luck.

  • Judging by the comments, you'd think this lady is Satan, lol. I'm not saying she's got a great set of morals or anything, but she gave a lot of insight. She wasn't trying to give an opinion of any sort, just explain the ins and outs and she did a great job at it. Me, I fucking hate the record industry, but I didn't find this nearly offensive as one might think.

  • the music BUSINESS is NOT DIFFERENT from any other business. what the fuck are your problems? Artists are employees of the labels. there's nothing weird and evil here.

  • @JohnF30Music exactly, the music industry is just that, an INDUSTRY. I hate when artists with crap overly obsure, anti mainstream and artsy music with no appeal (let alone mass appeal) bitch about not making it, if you're all about your "art" so damn much you wouldn't even be going after a deal, there are house musicians, music teachers etc playing music for the love of it all over the world. let's be honest everyone in the industry wants at least some kind of money in the industry

  • @JohnF30Music

Oligopolies aren't evil? Wow, that's news to me.

  • thanks so if you are droped can you go on and do new things or you still under contract?

  • If you can cope alone, stay alone, keep a label out. First you need to create value for yourself so you have a better starting point when you actually negotiate a contract. A artist with no buildup value doenst have the power to change a contract to protect his own wishes. He will be a puppet. The first year dont even think you earn decent money because the investment of the label has to be earned back. Artists earn money with gigs.

  • Berklee is a scam don't be fooled into thinking you'll get a record contract if you pay $200000 to go there.

  • Hey when did ellen degenorous become so intelligent haha

  • @ClarenceMurphy Jaja that's what I was thinking lol

  • @TheTruthteller76 hahaahaha you're such an idiot. there's no jesus, god and satan. GROW UP

  • wow my old legal aspects teacher at berklee

  • @ThaBeatDocta really? you graduated from berklee? Are you a best selling musician now? i really wonder why people go to berklee

  • She sounds like a snake. This is a prime example of why MTV and the radio feed us hot garbage all day. I love how this video ends with her saying, "record companies definitely listen to artists, they're not going to force you into a recording studio with a producer you don't want". Then she immediately follows up with, "they WILL choose a single for radio, something that you don't think represents you"...umm...huh?

  • Sign up to Starsof W W W . com and get in our contest to meet with 3 major A&R's

  • Don't send your music to these people! A&R outreach companies are moneypits and you could potentially have your songs stolen!

  • this is good information . i always wanted to know stuff like this!

  • What to expect - Sign your soul over to satan in blood - and forget about a Norman Rockwell Life with spouse and grandkids in front of a fireplace in a log cabin, you will be dead long before that or end up in a mental home, or dependent on some religious cult.

  • check out my vocals and video type neil england to find me dont click on the neilengland1977 i want the comment left on the page labeled neil england, when you love someone thats the name of the song its a cover by bryan adams rate me thank you

  • im gonna be seeing some producers on the 24th november, there are very well known but i have to pay out the money they said there would meet me have way for 4 demo,s its will cost me £3,400 pound which works out at £283 for first payment then another £283 from studio time, and then £284 for final mix down,it would be 4days inthe studio per song, there would sort out a show case for me talk to the record labals and barter for the best deal for me,i hope im not falling into a scam,

  • she forgot the part that you have to sell your soul if u want 2 have major success

  • @fareel2

For such a passé activity you need to of course, and you have no talent, that's why.

  • HAHA very funny but its ironic cuz most entertainers today really dont have much talent...its their name that sells!

  • @fareel2 what do you mean by selling your soul? i've heard that alot, but what does it mean

  • @fareel2 Not necessarily. You might want deep down to make the type of music that is likely to bring you success. You don't necessarily start out with something completely different to what the record labels think will sell and then have to change it.

  • what i have heard mostly with pop artist or hiphop/r&b artist is that they get a all in advance that includes a budget so that the artist can pay the producer and things of the sort. like a recording budget of 500,000 plus the artist advance. Ive heard this would be because it cost alot more to pruduce these records than for rock and country.

    CHA
