  • I alwasy thought art was suppose to be not to technical and exact like this grid method. Seems its better to just paint what you see. who cares if its not exact. be better to change it up as you inspir it to be.

  • Great video, thanks for uploading. Also, love your accent, I can just hear you saying coffee. CAAAWFEE!

  • excellent video, thank you

  • hey these are really good techniques for beginners...i used to do this when i was a beginner and used to copy the paintings of dutch artists... no doubt its a good technique specially the grid technique..

  • I use either Mylar or vellum for transfer. I'd like to use an overhead light tho...

  • Painting is about fun, not proving anything. Use any technique you want and have fun. Peace, cheers and good job.

  • very great ideas. . . If you.ve been free handing for years like me and your work is very good , you dont have time to be cute when you have orders stacked up. Customers dont care that you can paint they just want the finished product. The grid method is very effective but also time consuming. Im a detailed Artist and believe me its never easy. So thanks for sharing

  • Holy Crap! You are an amazing artist!!!!!!!!!!

  • i remember using the grid method in school ..and it is accurate right on

  • @delpha3110 Nick lightly sketches and can hold the end of the pencil or charcoal to prevent a shadow over where he is drawing. The point of the video is to show tools and techniques that can be useful to other artists. Hopefully they're used creatively. I know that Vermeer and other Dutch artists used lens and mirrors in creating their works. (Check out how many people in their painting are holding their glass in the left hand!) They used it to achieve their artistic ends vs being limited by it.

  • Very nice and informative..thanks for sharing

  • i never heard pf projecting an image before. that would be great for portraits of people. Today I am gonna paint and I think I am gonna try painting based on pictures like that. Thank you!

  • Nick, thank you very much for sharing your knowledge so generously. May God continue to bless you abundantly!!!!

  • love your square up method and using the duplicate transfer method - I do very detailed work, and takes me hours to do it by hour and copying, and have tor refer to photographs as well as life. Learned much to day, your a great teacher

  • Nick is a very special artist. We have three of his paintings in our home. He is not only a gifted artist, but a wonderful man. We are proud to know him.

  • wooow this is soo usefull i just put the picture in my face and try to look sooo caarefully but now thanks to you Nick i know alot more ways, soo i thank you sooo much for your amazing video!! THANK YOU!!!!

  • Nice tutorial!! Once the image is sketched on the canvas, do you use the original image to do the painting and shut off the projector? Or do you leave the projector on while getting all the colors and shapes blocked in on the canvas??? Thanks again!

  • @DepletedU NEVER leave the projector on for very long. The bulbs are very expensive and do not last a very long time. Once you get the image on the canvas you are better off painting from the original photo. The colors from the projector are not as accurate as the photo. Thank for asking!

  • Looking for such explanations, since long time.Thank You so much.Gary Braun
