  • Fav trk on the album.. Epic DOPE!!!

  • This song is too great.

  • You know I heard this song on adult swim (the part of the song with the trumpet solo at the end of the song) and I loved it so much that I wanted to have it. If it weren't for that soundhound app on my android phone I would've still l had my thumb in my ass thinking of what to do. And I'm not trying to spam here (in fact I don't care if you do get it) but I am trying to tell that it's an awesome app. I always disliked hip-hop or rap but this song is a definite exception. 10 out of fucking 10

  • " we haven't even gotten to the part where it's a joke "

  • That little tortured squeaky sound just made my cat twirl.

  • dude is very talented lyerically but I dont care for his sound. my buddy told me to check him out n im kinda dissapointed, suggest a better song???????

  • @irishmankan7 maybe you must hear! funcrusher plus ,but i don't know why you dont like this song ,it sounds amazing!

  • sugggest starting with company flow and working up till you can listen to real music with out feeling 50 cent withdrawls

  • this song is actually about taking drugs. and being sick of it, and the people involved.

  • El P is not from this era....he has created classic material from what some may have considered our letest gloden era circa 1996....this is a album to be loved by real listeners of the music....overall beyond the obvious genius dare i say involved with the beats...he has a way of putting to word what many people could describe as human internal conflict with complete honesty in reference all factors in the various stories being told....

  • 96 was dope for me. i didn't know that it was a golden era.

i see that you nailed some of the concepts el-p was going for. I just don' know what colored rust means.

  • blood. as it get exposed to oxygen it turns red. Thus rust or oxydised red metal

  • aint a person on this rock who is gonna have been socially successful within the next hundred or so years. we're gonna be choking on our own mindlessly productive nightmare and drowning in it while a few assholes fight over the last real food in some tower up in the sky

  • @pa1nted now make it rhyme...

  • 2:07 heard this part instrumentally on one of adult swims' new bumps and immidiately fell in love, it would be tight if someone made a remix to this with just that part , indeed it would indeed

  • @Tamagumo, Actually you can extend that part by editing the song from garage band.

I did it and it works, but it has to be perfect timing.

  • "Aren't you distubed that everthing you did tonight is something else you've done already and it's meaning is still nill?"

    : )

  • The genius in the song is the absolute truth it speaks...

With time and age, I've been noticing more and more about people. After realizing your genius, you begin to notice just how far behind everyone else is... eventually you start to stop caring about them- What was once a hope to help, teach, or progress others, becomes mired in disgust.

In short, life becomes a game of balancing a comprehension of an idiot's idiocy with your own hatred for it. The beat almost seems to mimic this point.

  • Couldn't agree more, but even still, some people still try to help, teach, or progress others, as you say. Which is worse, to be aware of the folly of man and do nothing to improve it, or still be the fool?

  • Then I have to know. How is it that you keep so positive, knowing that corporations run the world? That the richest 1% of the U.S. has more money than the lowest 95? and that half the country (conservatives) see nothing wrong with this?

  • Because I'm still alive, simple as that. And even if half the country doesn't see anything wrong with the current setting, they have been told and that is all we can do. Besides, the moment you let money decide your life, it's already over.

  • you couldnt be more right, its so wierd

  • Is the song itself not arrogant? Are we pretending that many of the people listening aren't in the category he himself, el p, is talking about? I understand your want to remain neutral and modest, but in world that is slowly dying, and rotting at the seems with corruption and idiocy, is it really worth respecting the next man's opinion, if you yourself recognize it as pure retardation?

  • I agree. I think this song promotes arrogance. I know that this wasn't El-P's intention. He is a very smart man and clearly has the right to feel this way. Many people listen to this song and feel that since they are outcasts and don't feel comfortable in social settings, they must be smarter than those that do.

Eh, its a hard topic to discuss. Does feeling superior to your peers mean anything other than a social disorder? There's alot of grey area around that topic.

  • I think its clearly intended to be insulting. The truth knows not of arrogance, only fact. Therefore, when the one-eyed man amongst the blind says, 'stupidity is the death of man', arrogance is perceived by the blind.

  • No truer words ever written.

  • And to follow up about the social choas concept...

I don't believe el-p is advocating any of this, and i'm quite sure people simply dismiss social paranoia as a fault of those surrounding them. But to people who have led full lives and are socially successful, and capable of being the center of attention at a party, i believe they can be rightly credited with a disgust for the party scene.

  • El-P is the center of his own party scene because he is wealthy and famous. That says nothing about his overall IQ. I will always hold the idea that social capabilities make up a large portion of one's true IQ.

  • you're trying to declare now... that el-p is socially incapable? I'm not going to waste my time defending his choices and social abilities- thats not my responsibility. but i will ask you, why? You're logic is more random than turrets...

  • This has gotten way off topic. Neither of us know El-P on a personal level so discussing his social capabilities is irrelevant. My point on El-P was that his capability of being the center of attention at parties has more to do with him being famous than being socially successful as you were assuming. That's not random logic, that's following the conversation's progression.

  • The only points I made were that the song promotes arrogance and social capabilities are a large part of true IQ. Please explain where I was wrong in either of those statements.

  • I agree with you, that social smarts and academic smarts CAN show (but do not always)... smarts...

However, you seem to make an assumption that El-P is only who he is because of fame.

Myself, i read into his words and draw from them, a picture of him as someone who comprehends his world around him.

Therefore, I am assuming that this, greater knowledge than most, has lead him to be socially successful, and would still even without the added fame.

The song shows truth; arrogance is perceived.

  • Even in truth there can be arrogance. If I have enough money to buy your house and burn it down, that is truth. By letting you know this truth I would be engaging in arrogance.

I didn't mean to get into El-P and his success. He's a great artist and probably a very likeable person. My intention was to evaluate the song's content.

  • arrogance can lie within truth. There is no denying it (in this case you've sighted I'd call it more asshole than arrogant...). My point however, was that just because it is arrogant, does not mean it is any less valid as a truth, b/c truth is only fact, not perception. I think we both have found agreement through discussion, and perhaps a better understanding of truth.

  • For those who think El-P's flow isn't that good...check out Company Flow. He's just been doing it for so long he reinvents how he does things. Yes, his producto skills are most notable, but, dude can flow

  • El-P Is The Shit!

  • His words are just mad nuts dawg

  • @milface he'dcall it angry balls.

  • I think his flow is mad nuts.

  • where its a joke.

  • thanks for that

  • EL-P's flow isn't very good. He has good word choice and rhyming structure but his flow is nothing spectacular. If it wasnt for how great his beats are I would honestly have a much harder time listening to him because his flow is so bad. His beats carry his lyrics, as opposed to the other way around.

  • El-P goes for a more gritty sound man... it appeals to the type of people who are into heavy metal music...

  • I agree,El-P doesn't flow on beat but that's what makes his shit so original and appealing.

  • Like Dre on The Chronic. You're not gonna listen to that album for the rap skills, same for this.

  • But you are going to listen

  • I call El-Ps word delivery unique. Its personally my main reason I love him. Obviously those beats, but he has a very distinct delivery.

  • It's really hard to understand him and know when he rhymes. but after looking at his lyrics while playing the song I'm amazed at how long of a focused idea can be said while rapping. i could understand his shit on the first read through. unlike aesops lyrics he doesn't have a heavy excluded audience.

  • ya i feel like im studying when im tryin to understand aesop.

  • El-P's flow isn't for the short-attention spanned. He can put like 30 40 words in one bar and sometimes he gets off beat or in a rhythm unbeknownst to me,lol. Sometimes he's full of himself but what rapper isn't.

  • i'm pretty sure i hear murs and slug on the laugh track also

  • good ear..

    wiki it..ur fukin rite.

  • that laugh track makes me crack the fuck up everytime

  • Where are murs and slug on this track... when you read the album it says they are featured, ive been trying to figure this out forever. Is it them laughing or echoing El-'s lyrics? If someone knows explain please.

  • Good question! I didn't know the CD said that, but its weird that it'd say that.

  • Towards the end. They're filling space such as "Go go go" and other echoes.

  • "you would tell me if i was crazy right?"

  • "you would tell me if i was crazy right?"

thats probably one. dont know where the other is.

  • mase sucks, benifit is average, and el-p is really good. i wouldn't go as far as 2 say he's amazing, cuz some of his beats r too wierd, but his flow blows those 2 out of the water!

  • Flow? He's just talking.

  • u don't hear the cadence that he gets into? He keeps that same rhythm going the whole song. He's not talking either. I've heard songs w/ just talking poetry (the narssists-moments feat. buck 65), but he's ripping on this track. U should check that track out and let me know what u think.

  • Yea, I'm not too sure how good of a flow El-P has. Don't get me wrong, I love his music, but production is clearly his strong suit.

  • Are you joking? El-P's flow is ridiculous. How he says the words he does and the amount of words and ideas he can cram into a single line is ridiculous and his flow is overall ridiculously well structured.

  • I still don't know if I would call that a good flow. Flow is supposed to.....well, flow. Black Thought is an example of a good flow. El-P has a very Kool Keith-esque delivery.

Once again, I love his music, but his flow is nothing special.

  • As I just pointed out... his swagger and flow is something that appeals to a more gritty audience... rockers/metal heads and such.

  • I like the way you put that, and its hit home with truth. because i myself am a metal head at heart. probably why I did Necro soo much too.

  • benefit is average wtf>?

  • He has no flow and can't ride a beat but still....El-P is poetic as fuck! This reminds me of the simpletons who lack depth in my environment that just blabber on about nonsensical bullshit and partyin'.

  • ur an idiot arent u?....

  • Why are you slanderin' me?

  • cuz ur talkin shit about one of the few GOOD rappers left

  • Talkin' shit. I'm pointing out the obvious. Shut the fuck up I like El-P.

  • never said u didnt, but he does have amazing flow, thats one of the main reasons i like him.

  • Not really if you compare him to Benefit or Mase. They have good flow. He's just beautifully poetic.

  • benefit? are you fuking high man?

el has a unique flow, and a good one at that.

benefit is a recycled piece of shit.

Ma$e is a fucking douchebag, i dont think ANYONE likes mase. ever.

  • Believe it or not Mase Had the chance to become a Legend in the rap game but he decided to become a minister. He has real koo' laid back flow check out his songs *I Need To Be, Lookin' At Me and What You Want.*

  • the only shit he ever had was the verses on the Children of the Corn.and even then it was relativly average. (in my most humble of opinions)

  • I actually agree with you here. I think you've just run into blatant fanboyism. I'm a huge El-p fan, but to call him a great rapper is stretching the truth imo, Big Daddy Kane is a rapper with good flow for example. El-p; individual: yes, great: no, awesome: yes.

  • Lol. Blatant fanboyism?Wow! You couldn't have worded it better!

  • Well,I'm 34 and grew up on the late 80's/early 90's era,and as a writer I feel that El-P stands up to the best of 'em.

If an emcee's 'greatness' can only be fairly measured in the context of his respective generation, then El-P was easily one of the superior emcees of his.

  • cool, we're on the same pg.

  • I like el-p when he doesn't overpower the beat w/ loud drums and electric guitar. This is really how i like him.

  • Agreed.

  • I love the laugh track after the "live studio audience" message.

  • this album is FUCKIN DOOOPE!

  • genius lyricist.

  • -no-bodies-hanging-off-trees-like-christmas-----ornaments-

  • NIN of hip-hop.

  • I agree with this comment.

  • haha...he got trent reznor on a track

  • The guy who says 'the league of extrodinary nobodies was......' at the very begining sounds alot like Laurence Fishborne.

  • reminds me of when I'm around any group of people i don't know. such great description

  • video cuts off the last word for me

  • the way this beat changes up reminds me of a track by rza called 'koto chotan' feat. masta killa. both songs r fuckin sic though.

  • When Cold Vein came out, RZA's throne amongst producers was snatched by you know who =) he still makes good beats, but El-P just isn't stopping.

  • El-P was influenced by rza alot

his company flow shit sounded exactly like

    rza's liquid swords beats

  • LS is my fav. album, but El-P evolved into something brilliant....RZA's era was '92-'98...as for El-P, he is just getting better and better. :)

  • yea I love this track

  • One of the best songs ever made.

  • Completely agreed.

  • agreed
