  • With all respect, Steve Nelson really did perform way better this 2nd time around. He even managed to make Ralph look helpless at times.

  • Nice edited video. Where is the first part where Ralph takes him down and taps him out (Nelson had to grap the ropes for an "escape') in about 30 seconds.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheGirltips101 Bullshit.

  • i remember my taking me to see this fight in the 90's "SHOOT FIGHTS"

  • I'll never go to one of these fight events again. I have respect for the fighters, but the people watching are SO disgusting! They are low-class freaks. It was hard to concentrate on anything listening to a bunch of hillbillies screaming. And 99% of them were NOT even athletic!!

  • Gracie killed him before so we was clearly sick. he is a bad ass.

  • Steve Nelson is a stupid son of a bitch that thought he could beat jiu-jitsu having lost prior to this fight to Ralph once, the first was a massacre, and this one Ralph wasn´t even going hard, looks like he was relaxing with the retard of nelson in his guard

  • I spoke to a Ralph Gracie students after this fight and he told me Ralph was really sick with the flu during this fight. They were thinking of calling it, but Ralph decided just to get it over with.

  • It's called trapping your opponent. Once Nelson gets in the zone of slapping around, Gracie plans his move, and gets him.

  • Take you down with these manly slaps. And Ralph is thinking, "B.J. is a traitor mother f'er" as he taps out Nelson.

  • haha so much for gracie jujitsu = laying on the floor getting bitch slapped = AWESOME ahahaaha

  • the little sissy slaps look gay but it makes sense that they dont want to get mangled -- it make it seem more like pankration though.

  • That's not even the whole fight! That was cut down! Ralph had mount in the beginning and was dominating until nelson's friend, the ref, pulls Ralph off mount for no reason! Ralph didn't even train for this because he knew he would beat him! Which was a mistake because he gassed. But if it wasn't for nelsons referee friend, it would of been over in the first minute! That's why you don't see that part of the video!

  • @armhunter excuses excuses only pussies make excuses stfu

  • @ThisReallySuckz You dont like the truth? Go fuck yourself! Its obvious this video was edited! Watch the whole fight and you can then shut the fuck up!

  • Steve Nelson my teacher at PD ;)

  • Is this before or after their BATTLE CADE fight?

  • @fudoshindo After.

  • Bjj wins everytime!

  • LOL, Coach Nelson paid Ralph to keep it going close to 10 minutes since Ralph whooped his ass their first fight.

  • whoever said BJJ wouldn't work in a street fight, i'm sorry, but that's just stupid. 95% of street fights end up on the floor, if you know any form of jiu jitsu or judo and the other bloke's just got one discipline that isn't bjj or a groundwork art, they're fucked. jiu jitsu is the most logical and practical fighting style... and i'm a southern chinese martial artist!

  • @ganjakru1 Partner, I tried using it in a street fight, and I don't suck at all. But when I put a guy in a straight armbar, he bit the back of my knee. BJJ is SPORT and SPORT ONLY. Once my leg was bit, I turned around and started applying SELF DEFENSE techniques. Why do you think the Special Forces in the US Army are completely revoking the MACP (Modern Army Combatives Program) that was based off of BJJ, made by Royce and Helio Gracie themselves? They stated, quote, "This isn't what works."

  • @azraelangelofred bjj have self defense moves .

they are wrist locks, and santed up shoulder locks,

leglocks.but also u need santed up game .

  • @azraelangelofred You haven't applied the technique properly otherwise the pain wouldn't let your opponent any chance to bite you. These techniques were used by hand to hand combatants for hundreds of years. Of course Juijitsu alone is not enough if your opponent knows ground technique. But against the average guy this is very efficient.

  • @jitangoburka All right, FINE. YOU tell me how to apply a straight armbar from the closed guard. My instructor was Christen Jensen, she was the silver medallist at the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu contest. I have tapped out SEVERAL individuals with that armbar, and you're telling me I SUCK at it?! It was the PAIN that made him bite my leg in the first place!

  • @azraelangelofred Well you seem to be an expert at that so I won't argue with you. But that biting thing is uncommon. I think only Crav Maga was propagating that as a defense from grapplers during the early days of the UFC. And of course Mike Tyson demonstrated it by eating Holifields ears. I think in a street fight the likelihood of an opponent biting a you while applying a juijitsu technique is small.

  • @jitangoburka All right, because you were so humble and respectful in your comment, I'll apologize for the harshness of mine. I"m no expert to be honest, I just had a very good instructor who wouldn't screw me. And I'll admit, if you take the sport rules out, BJJ would work fine. But you have to adjust the strategy. What I HATE about BJJ, is the better-than-everyone-else attitude they have. Humility, respect, equality...THESE are what every martial art should have.

  • @ganjakru1 And what happens if you knock the motherfucker out standing, and just let him drop to the ground?

  • boring...cuz ralph is too cocky. i know this isn't any mma...so i understand, but he would've gotten knocked out so bad with his hands behind his back. lol.

  • Ralph was putting on a show for the crowd. He knew he couldn't get punched on the ground so he didn't bother defending Nelson's "devastating" slaps. He could have submitted him easily at any time with all the space Nelson was giving him. No problem at all for a bjjer of Ralph's level. He had both hands behind his head at one point for God's sake. Not exactly a sign of a man desperate to defend himself.

  • if this had been a street fight. or even if Steve nelson could throw closed fists, this fight would have gone the other way. BJJ has the problem of being to passive sometimes. it works really great on novices and inexperienced fighters.

  • @shoulung

Don't be a jackass. MMA is a sport. It should never be compared to street fight.

  • Man. I just saw Ralph get his BUTT whooped for 8 and a half minutes straight. He got lucky with that armbar, Steve shouldn't have been complacent. Oh well. Ralph wasn't so lucky against Takanori Gomi.

  • @azraelangelofred

Man, look what type of person you are... Ralph survived an 8-minute beating, never gave up, and won the fight in the end. You call Ralph lucky, I call him a TRUE WARRIOR.

  • @LupusRexRgis Physically, yes. He is a warrior. I just can't stand the Gracie's arrogance and claiming they're the best. I despise it when a Gracie wins because it gives people the wrong example. That being arrogant and disrespectful is a good thing. As a martial artist myself, I demand humility and respect ouf of myself. The Gracie's are against all of that. It's WRONG. And they are NOT invincible or UNBEATABLE!

  • Gracie got his ass kicked the whole time what a shitty win, they act like it is the world championship

  • Coach nelson haha he wouldnt be doin that to Rorion Gracie

  • Steve nelson is an awesome coach.... I had him at PD.......

  • If Steve Nelson ever checks this this is Jim Chaikong, I fought Ali in 96 and would love to get a video..let me know..Jim "Still Fighting" Jaikong from Thailand Bangkok by way of Abilene Texas;-)

  • HAHAHAHAH! GJJ!!!! YEAH!!

  • Steve Nelson, my old wrestling coach.. great video. Too bad he doesn't fight anymore though

  • Gracie family is the best respect :)

  • 9:00 Dando Tapinha No Ralph gracie

Em 3 segundos Ralph Finalizou o Otário

  • Nelson fought Gracie in Canada in Extreme Fighting and lost in under a minute. Later that day, police raided the hotel to arrest all the fighters for illegal prizefighting. Ralph got away by hiding in his friend's room for three days; the police walked in on Nelson while he was having sex with his girlfriend.

  • lmao

  • The way this thing was going I thought old boy was going to win the fight but all his slapping and shit was in vain.

  • im sad

    i luf u jO

  • Becase of the rules back then in the 1990's in Texas the athletic commision would only allow open handed strikes which is why Steve Nelson is "slapping" as strikes..

  • I never saw a Gracie huliliated like this!

  • huliliated?

    HUAUHAHUA

    Ralph subbed him.

  • Yes. What happened is I wrote my commentary before the end of the fight. Very nice armlock. Next time I will watch the whole video before writing Lol

  • gracie was getting dominated up until the sub, very bad showing from him, lucky forhim they were only slaps

  • I've done karate and judo, the past six years I've been doing english boxing. BJJ is a very complete style but a KO is still a KO.

  • and an amrlock or mata leao will always be a submission!!

    :)

  • the dude on top slaps like a bitch

  • or... maybe... he is not allowed to punch like a superheroe because he is not wearing any gloves...? he doesnt slaps anyway- he hits wi his palms (not fists), which could be more damaging. dont we all love ingoratns :-)

  • The way Raplh was fighting if closed fist punching was allowed, he would have been stopped.

  • The only way to know for sure is if they fought with closed fists at this fight, they didnt. They both fought one time with closed fists and open fists, Ralph won both times under closed fists rules and open handed rules against Steve.

  • o cara é Brasileiro porra !!!!

  • This person also said that early in the match, if you watch Ralph carefully, he's actually mocking Nelmark: doing crunches while he's being slapped in the face.

  • I was told by a student of Ralph's that he had just recovered from a nasty case of the flu before this fight. Rather than call the fight off, he went ahead and fought, exhausted, dehydrated, and feeling like utter crap. He was pretty confident that he would make short work of Nelmark again, but the guy was able to make a fight of it.

  • Props to Ralph for taking a beating, then submiiting him out of no where. Especially when it's late in the fight like it was, very hard to submit late in fights with being fatigued and the sweat makes it slippery. PROPS TO RALPH!!

  • this is fucking gay, just like all "ultimate fighting" or whatever this shit is

    where's the violence?

  • ur lame.....

  • therealgayrjones: Let me be the first to congratulate you on such a well thought out and well articulated post. I have scoured every word and have reached the following conclusion: Please stop masturbating so much.

  • Ralph is a stud.

  • i was there and this was after ralph lifted stve up, slammed him and mounted him 3x and the reff kept standing them up over and over, right when steve starts doing good against an exausted ralph is when you put the footage up

  • Lindaciga: Thanks for the enlightening info. That answers a lot of questions about why Ralph seemed to have struggled.

  • Jeez. I wonder why it took so long and why Ralph seemed to struggle on the ground. (Ralph wasn't just sitting in guard but actually being mounted.) Is Steve Nelson a bit heavier (he looks muscular) and pretty good on the ground? Great victory in the end, though, and Ralph seemed physically unphased - a testament to how ineffectual the striking actually was (granted, it was limited to open hand).

  • bro it would have been over so quick if it was fists...BJJ is an impractical real world fighting decipline

  • Possibly it would have been over sooner under a different set of rules - I know little about Nelson, not a ton about Ralph, and zero about whatever organization/contest this was, so I don't dispute your contention.

However, I totally disagree with your assessment of BJJ.

  • in a street situation you do not know what the other guy has (weapon) and to get close and wrestle with him is putting yourself in more dangerous situation...

  • I suppose, yes, ideally, it'd be nice to keep him away from you. It's just not easy to do that, so when you do most likely get tangled up it's good to know BJJ.

If one figures in the issue of a weapon, the only legit method of self defense is running away really fast, so we should all be training with Carl Lewis instead of Renzo Gracie.

  • strike to disorient then run...never wrestle...Gracie would tell you to lay on the ground in missionary position and invite the guy in

  • Youre an idiot, the Gracie philosophy on street fighting is to say that you do NOT want to fight the entire time to the attacker and to get away as soon as possible.

  • how many street fights you been in? If under 20 don't talk to me...or let me guess you have a fighting record like a Gracie 400 and 0 and cant throw a punch...long story short because of my job i get into alot of scrappy situations submissions are great but the passiveness of BJJ is not

  • OK.......Tough guy. Incredible hulk. Macho man Randy Savage.

  • LMAO So how about we try it (ME and YOU) I do jiu jitsu and you use " real world fighting decipline"

  • That's why the US Army is using BJJ techniques and, soldiers have said that the things they've learned, have helped them in Iraq.

  • Brasileiro é fooooooooooooooooooooooda!

  • Thats the name of the game - you saw it happen to Crocop against Noguera

  • there is no winning the fight doulbe its the end when u win gracies are the best

  • Was he not allowed to strike with a closed fist?

  • The old rules were open fist only

  • That has to really suck when Steve Nelson is winning the entire fight and the last few seconds before it ends Ralph Gracie secures an arm bar and Steve taps.

  • he should have learned to finish the fight if he knew it was only open palm strikes.

  • Dude, there is no such thing as "winning the entire fight" you either win or loose a fight.
