@jung567 This art is more applicable than naginatado, this is derived from the use of a bayonet on a rifle, much more recent and more applicable in this day.
I think its too long for the modern rifle, I wish they would practice multiple lengths.
Obviously those shinai are based on the arisaka with type 30 mounted, and really a type 30 is the only type of bayonet that would be good for cutting kote (given its long blade), but it is also possible to get a custom bayonet if you actually felt like you might use jukendo in real life.

Jukendo was most likely practiced on POWs and many civilians. Thats why I didn't take up Toyama ryu because its documented to have been used in that fashion.
Dunno about that, but I know that they were using the jukendo bogu etc. quite some time before WWII. None of the jukendo guys I met before mentioned it.
Last time I checked, if someone had a knife or a stick with a pointy sharp thing on the end they'd probably just kill you. I do Judo too and I can tell you that if I went against someone who did Jukendo or Tankendo unarmed, I'd lose the vast majority of the time. (people use weapons for a pretty good reason)
I realize that, but I've also tried doing that stuff with people who also do kendo, iai, naginatado, etc. and 90% of the time they're just gonna shank you a few times and be done with it. Like I said before, people use weapons for a reason.
Forgot to mention, theres some thread on bullshido where some moron (iirc he did Muay Thai and Judo or something) tried "sparring" with his friend who barely knew any Iaido and got the living crap beat out of him with a bokken. There were some amusing pictures up there.

So this is for bayonets? Interesting. Does smashes count as a point?

And probably more than a few armed people considering that the Japanese seemed to love rushing people with bayonets.

@Dmkoh86 couldnt agree more this is a savagely rushed art used on exclusivly on civilians

well the kata for judo teaches you to defend and dissarm sn opponent, on and off the mat, in real life situations.
