I don't know what he was saying but something similar happened to me! One night, when I was 11, I was scared to go to sleep for some reason. She offered me to sleep in her bedroom. That night, my mom started SCREAMING in her sleep! She would mumble something like that and then start screaming! You have dreams every night, regardless of if you remember them. Chances are he's talking in his sleep, probably to someone or something in his dream. In his dream they make sense, but if you speak them, it may come out as simply jibberish because that part of your brain isn't trying to work out what you're saying. Sort of like mixed signals. One side of your brain is talking, but the other is just telling your vocal chords to move and make noise, while the message is unclear and unintended.
