Do you think it possible to correct the posture after the formation of the spine (which is up to 24 years)? My doctor said that after this age it is impossible to straighten the spine. And that is cleared only maintains that his condition might get worse.
@TheAlexirg Yes, the spinal structure can definitely be altered after you stop growing (but the more osteoarthritis that exists the more difficult this becomes). You aren't bending the bones but changing the alignment of the spine. There are dozens and dozens of studies on structural rehab of the spine. Check out 'ideal spine' dot com for all the research.
Thank you for posting this! I dont know how much it can help on its own whithout any profetional help but will try! Hm... another Q.... can you post a video please with obesity related problems of posture and how we can try to fix them? I kind of have acumulated a posture over the years (i m 32) where my left shoulder stands evidentely lower than the right one. And due to heavy weight, chest and all, the shoulders hang low giving me a round shape, rather that square. :(((
@AsgarthaWitch So glad you like this exercise. The best advice to give here is that the weight needs to come down before you successfully attempt posture correction. Oh and also go and get professionally fitted for a bra. My sister is a lingerie wholesaler and says most women are wearing the wrong size! The wrong size spells disaster for your posture. Thanks for your comments.
@sexylilysexy@sexylilysexy 'Popping neck.' You are simply experiencing what chiropractors call 'cavitation' the sound of the release of gas from the joint space as you move your neck. Make sure all new exercises are done under the watching eye of a health care professional. Enjoy!
Recent x-rays show beginning of DDD (degenerative disk disease) in my neck. I am in my early 50's. I know I have forward head posture. Other than this and 'migraine headaches', I'm in superb health. I tried the chin/tummy tuck routine against a wall first time today - wow was my back sore for a few minutes! but my neck felt stretched and better!
Question: could my DDD be reversed or stopped or is this a downhill progression? I believe in mind, body, healing working hand in hand so my questi
@CarmelaBianchi Can your disc arthritis be reversed? Good question. Wolff's Law has me believe it is possible if the structure of the neck is put into the correct alignment but this becomes increasingly less likely as we get older. You should be under the care of a health care practitioner (like a chiropractor) who doesn't just use a symptomatic approach (ie. when pain gone so are you) but understands the structure of the spine as I do. Usually this means they have some post grad qualifications.
I know I have forward head. And I would love to know if I can fix it all by myself or if I have to go to have chiropractic adjustments done. I can not really aford those but I do not want to have this posture. I go to the gym two times a week and I am using workout machines and rowing machines
isn't it funny how society finds ways to solve problems but not prevent them in the first place? says a lot: people are neglecting of lifes most important essentials and money runs medical world and none is to be made from preventing disease - in fact thats the #1 competitor to so much of the world's revenue. Thank you for this video
@syber95 Start with 10 times in a row three times a day. If it is really marked forward head posture you should be doing exercises with the help of your health practitioner who can advise you how many and how often depending on your examination. Thanks for the question.
@theeaglehaslandedify A great question, thanks! It certainly can change the curve over time but it depends very much on how advanced the changes are to the curve and if there is any osteoarthritis that has developed in the discs and joints due to the incorrect posture. This makes a huge difference in how correctable the curve is.
Paula, Can I email you a picture of my C-spine x-ray? It's fairly straight but expected. The curve isn't going the wrong way yet or anything, just not much of a curve anymore.
@theeaglehaslandedify The best way for me to offer an assessment (I do charge as I get asked to look at x-rays and pictures quite often) is to direct you to my website posturevideos dotcom and under the heading 'Best Posture Products' you will see my 'Posture Analysis'. If you decide to purchase this service just remind me of our chat here and I'll include a full mathematical analysis of your x-rays (including measurements etc). Thank you for your question, it is hard not to say yes to everyone
@whitenoices ah the million dollar question this depends on the cause, how long it has been there, how severe it is, your lifestyle (diet, weight, emotional health). There are far too many factors to be able to answer you having never met or examined you. Sorry, I'd love to be able to give an answer (I'd have a line up around the block of people coming to see me if I could!).
Sounds a likely cause. Watch all my videos on forward head posture by looking at that category on my posture videos dotcom website. Thanks for the comment.
Hmm.. there is a ton of tension and pain in my front neck muscles. I wonder it's because I have a forward head posture and it's causing pain and tension on those muscles, I can't think of anything else that would be the cause
@HooligannSTR That's a very common sign of this bad posture, I used to have sort of at the front/sides of my neck but after following some of these techniques for a few weeks I can feel it getting noticeably better. Also watching how I sit at the computer is helping.
Thanks for your comments. You should always do exercises under the care of a health professional. Nauseous sounds unusual to me, perhaps that postural problem of yours has been affecting your nervous system for a long time. Any health concerns should be directed to your GP or chiropractor. Remember a little and often. Stick with it!!
wow, i didn't think it was even reversible, i thought i was going to be stuck with this ugly hump forever. i'm gonna be trying this every day. just one question though, i also tried your other video (prevent neck hump) and i actually started feeling a little nauseous, is that normal??

Awesome! Thank you so much. I am an 18 year old athlete and I am constantly active. I have been in very heavy weight lifting for over 5 years and I almost always focused on my chest muscles, which pulled my head and shoulders forward. At the start of this year I have developed an abnormally sized hump on lower neck/upper back, my chiropractor just said it was some hump laughed and told me I need to work on posture, but I really didn't no how. I just wanted to thank you for the videos.
@Kylemlb44 im' 17 and my neck look like a dinosaur :o :'( how to fix my neck if u know how,, i also do gym and my chest is forwarding, and my neck is forward and skinny do to computer long hours video gamess
Lol....this exercise is just that...an exercise because it wouldn't be practical to walk around with the double chin as you say. But it is good practise to slightly tuck it in and stand tall when walking. Eventually when the head is back in alignment you will no longer need to 'force' it back so to speak. The more of these you do and the more frequently, the faster you will correct your posture. Thanks!
This looks great...but I'm a little confused...is the proper posture that I'm supposed to walk around with one where my head is up and chin in? I would rather not be walking around with a double chin. I know I need help though as my head is very far forward.
And one more thing... How long does it take to see improvements in appearance and mobility? So far I don't see any improvement in appearance, but I am having an easier time turning my head, especially looking over my left shoulder to change lanes. I am 40, if it matters.
@smileypom I'm 44 so I know it takes time. Be patient it has taken 40 years to get like this. The fact that you are moving better is a great start!! If you got serious about correcting your posture you would notice change after 4 months of consistent work. I've been correcting my posture for years and won't stop working on it because gravity is a bugger and will always try to disrupt your good alignment. Well done!
@posturevideos Thanks for your replies, Paula! I'm happy I asked, now I know it'll be a little while and not to give up. I'm feeling a little sore -- I may be doing these more than I'm supposed to, since I am really aware of my neck these days -- but I think that may be good as it does remind me to keep doing them.
I just saw that you put up some new videos and watched the 3 parter on fnp, lots of good info! Thanks again! I'll come back and let you know how I progress.
I've been using a forward neck posture pillow to stretch for 20 minutes each night and then just added this exercise, but when I'm out and about, or reading, at my computer, etc, I'm not sure how to hold my head anymore. Should I be going for the posture you describe here minus the chin-tucking, or with a little chin-tucking? I don't want to trade my hump in for a double chin if I can help it.
@smileypom Made me laugh. You won't get a double chin don't worry. Yes when you are at PC then do some of the chin tucks; not in the same way you do when you do them as proper exercise. So as I type to you now I have stopped when working to do three or four tucks. I'm always doing them and the consistency works!
The exercise I show you in this video will help you target many of the muscles. Your personal trainer could show you how to stretch your chest muscle (pecs) and strengthen the lower trapesius stabilisers that are often weak and cause round shoulders and encourage forward head posture.
Great info the head protracting off its proper coronal plane is a result of our constant flexion addiction , training the rhomboids and lenthening the scalenus is the best option with weight training speeding up the process by weeks . Chiropractors using your modern methods are great and undermined by conventional medicine .Thanks for sharing your years of clinical evaluation .
