I prefer the hive-top feeder. Every time you disturb the hive and smoke the bees it sets them back a couple days. With the hive top feeder you don't have to fill as often and when you do you don't have to invade the hive. Occasionally during their frenzy to feed one or two will fall into the water of the hive-top feeder but if you float a couple of small dowels where they feed they'll get right out.
