Actually 7 verses in the Bible, all of them do to with common ancient world sex practices-male prostitution, concubines, hedonism, all wrong I agree. But nothing there about gay being a sin.. @carribbeandreams2004 Homosexuality is not mentioned in the Commandments nor did Jesus say one word about it. He DID 100% condemn the leaders of organized religion & their fanatican followers!

7 verses in the entire Bible mention gay sex; references to male prostitution, concubines & wild hedonism (using men & boys as sex toys), all common in the ancient world.

Being gay is NOT a sin, nor do gay sex acts have ANY religious context of themselves.

@chicraig6421No religious context? I don't think so. Leviticus is pretty clear on the subject of male - male sex, In theological context, there is nothing neutral or innocuous about engaging in an abominable act, to do so is to sin.

Leviticus 20:13 says basically the same as 18:22, but adds its own special exclamation point. You can find more examples in new testament and old, you just have to look. Leviticus 18:22 :

"Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination."

There is says if you ware 2 types of cloth at the same time u should be stoned, do you cover your head when in church and are u slient - stoning again. Lev is really into stoning kind of like Iran don't ya think? I know the 7 verses, but again you read them out of context. See right below where I point out what the Bible was talking about male prostitution, concubines etc.

@chicraig6421 I've read them all, so let me continue the lesson. Commands given in Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy, are referred to as Mosaic laws. Between these 3 Old Testament books, there are over 400 separate commands, each command being a law unto itself. You are obviously looking for a context that suits your views, trouble is, the context of each command is contained solely within itself and is to be taken literally. Just for the record, I am not a theist. I just know the bible.

When was the last time anyone you know sacrifices a goat, or eat shell fish, and you the know rest. I still stand by what I said insofar as 18:22 condemning male homosexuality, it's spelled out loud and clear to those that take it literally as it was intended by the authors. To lie with a woman in the biblical sense, is to have intercourse with. So the passage "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind" is clear to me.

Some would call picking a verse here and a verse there , "selective morality", the truth as far as I'm concerned is that while many Mosaic laws simply cannot be applied to modern times, there are still several that apply as well today as they did 4000 yrs. ago. There are several commands in Lev. chapter 19 that if followed by all, would make this a better world, give it a quick read.

@tripleJ1955 Thanks for your comments, and I agree. Lev 19:11-18 is for me, very much like the Commendments. I really don't spend much time there (Lev) with all the slave, stoning, and hate stuff. Basic law is basic law, then and now. But as you say much is 'out dated'

everyone is dancing around this issue with Sally Kern when all she is, is a bigot. She is willing to say that gays are more dangerous than terrorists, that it's like a cancer which will spread if we don't "stop it" and that gays have designs on converting 2 year old children.

There's a word for that, and it's "bigot." Call her what she is, why is everyone dancing around her feelings when she obviously doesn't care who she hurts.

It's nice that Sally Kern and PFLAG were able to sit down and talk. But it's awkward that they can only talk to each other in Christian terms. The PFLAG members describe their beliefs eloquently, but it all boils down to a disagreement over scripture, especially the stumbling block that Ms. Kern believes homosexuality is a sin whereas the PFLAG members don't. Our laws should not be based on one's particular religious beliefs, regardless of whether those beliefs are pro- or anti-gay rights.

If we do not forgive then we are no better than she is. You don't have to agree with her to forgive her. If the GLBT community wants to move on we have to show them that they can say their hurtful words but we won't retaliate with the same rants and slurs because it would show us to be hatemongerers just like them.
