Beginning today, the U.S. Labor Department will begin counting the long-term unemployed in a new way, the Department announced.
Until now, all those who have been unemployed for 99 weeks or more were counted as one group. Beginning today, the Bureau of Labor Statistics will group people by the actual number of weeks of unemployment, up to five years.
