Should be easy in America, you've got lots of examples to choose from - Australia for instance.
The irony is 90% of so-called 'pro-lifers' (pro-life from ballbag to baptism, that is) are taking a bunch of these anti-psychotic drugs as it is. And if they're not , then they should be.
If any of them were actually pro-life across the board that would be on thing, but they're not. @TheTruePooka The fetus MUST be protected at all costs and to do so we must ban everything that could possibly cause a fetus to abort or miscarry. It is in this light that I am obligated to put forward that we MUST ban GOD from being involved with humans, including the creation of. The reason for this is that approx 70% of pregnancies are miscarried before the woman even knows she is pregnant due to simple 'design' flaws in our species; for example the DNA of the parents won't line up correctly.
@Apalis01 I certainly wasn't making a fully formed proposal, but simply noting a concept that would fit OukaKisa's idea that I wouldn't reject out of hand, like I'd reject the idea of criminal sanctions for some weight related failing.
As for BMI being insufficient, I take that as an example of how social engineering like this is fraught with peril. Either the criteria becomes too complicated to be easily understood, or it's too simplistic and fails to correctly identify the appropriate party.
I think thats a tad unfair, yes there will be arseholes in there that you can't trust, but there will also be those that are trying to do whats right for everyone. In the UK whilst we do have the social healthcare thing going on we also have the option of private medical care if people want it. On the whole the NHS is good at what it does, I do have private dental coverage though but thats in part down to NHS dentists being as rare as hens teeth, and if a recent investigavie journalism thing is true an honest NHS dentist is even rarer! But this is a lot of waffle and i'm meant to be getting ready for work.
Your right about the FDA not being my friend, i'm a Brit ;)
tbh i don't get the obsession you americans have over popping pills, and i find it really obsured the way your country shrieks and panics over universal health care.
I feel discriminated against on an endocrinological basis.....they're banning insulin but no word on the other replacements for endocrine glands that fail?? What's their word on replacement thyroxine treatments? Do they get banned too or am I being discriminated against because the wrong part of my endocrine system is buggered?
4:02......NOOOOOOOOOOOO!you went TOO FAR, POOKA!!! *sniff* TOO....FAR! we NEED our CATS! good vid! yeah, as several posts have pointed out: we can just go back to the 1800's (heck, the early turn of the 20th century!) and everything would be fine!all we had THEN was high infant mortatlity rates (and mortality rates for moms) from NATURAL causes!
@MistressArte Well, it'll be OK. You can just get a sex-change and then the pro-lifers won't care about your reproductive system anymore. Because men are obviously superior since we don't get pregnant and therefor can't cause birth defects with our activities. What's that? There are substances that can cause chromesonal damage in males that in turn could cause birth defects? Shit.... Wait, since you had a sex change and now are sterile, maybe they'll let you keep your albuterol anyway...
Do you have a link? I can't find anything about this (from searching "teratogenic drugs, operation rescue, personhood usa, etc) other then your video.
It may just be me but I think that there should be something done to make people not be as fat... lets say 250 lbs of mainly fat or less... (cue the haters =3 )
@OukaKisa While I wouldn't want any law with criminal sanctions about someone's weight, I wouldn't necessarily be against a program that paid cash (out of the health care budget) once a week (say $25) to anyone meeting a certain BMI criteria....
Say, when I was a teenager they made me take Effexor. I can't remember where I live most of the time. ...who are you again? What site is this? WHAT YEAR IS IT?! GRAAAAH!!!
majority of those drugs just named not surpose to take when pregant says so in the leaflets that come with them , trying to ban those drugs is silly and downright dangerous especially those drugs that are needd for heart defects and insulin is a must , the pharmasices have taken the nesscary precaustions and so would any GP not to prescribe them to pregant women
fuck it, ban all medications that cause birth defects, let all these fundies die from not taking their meds, thin the damn herd already, they obviously want to kill themselves.
Sarah Palin and the rest of those ultra conservitive Christians...they should take a pill called the ''cyanide pill'' and Sarah Palins vagina and stomach should be banned cause those cause retarded children.
I don't get it. I haven't heard of anybody wanted to ban teratogenic drugs. Is this just a reducto ad absurdum of pro-lifers in general? Or is there some specific BS they're peddling now?
In either case, the pro-life position wouldn't justify any such bans. They don't have a problem with birth defects (mild retardation is a plus for the pervasiveness of their ideology), so long as life is preserved.
In part. Keep in mind many of these defects are fatal. And this tact points out the real intent of their belief - not the sanctity of life, but the control of others according to their religious beliefs.
@TheTruePooka I don't think so. I think that preservation of life is the real intent, and the control of others is a nasty side effect. Why do you think they want to control people when the preservation of what they think of as life is consistent with their position? Is there an inconsistency I'm missing?
@ghuegel Yes. They are inconsistent in which life they feel is worthy of preserving. I have rarely found an antiabortionist who is consistent in an; "All life is sacred" ideology when you consider their political views across the board. They attempt to take an issue which is complicated in so many ways, apply their simple beliefs and philosophies to it and then crush all dissenting opinion with the force of secular law.
@TheTruePooka Interesting. I don't know if the problem is them or you. I was taught early on that when talking with someone whose position(s) you oppose, you should assume the strongest possible justification for their beliefs, rather than assuming or seeking to find some philosophical or psychological weakness. And trying to impose consistency upon your opponents' entire worldview is stifling (few, if any, are 100% consistent).
@ghuegel Really? Huh. I was taught to examine all beliefs, philosophies and positions to determine the strengths, weaknesses and validity of the positions.
But this isn't just some mental exercise. All you have to do is look at how Operation Rescue's "summer of life" went, or how they're trying to shut down planned parenthood (a fight which is about destroying government funded services so private industry can have a monopoly - not about abortion).
@TheTruePooka I think we're talking about different things. I'm talking about dealing with individuals, whereas you seem to be talking about groups/movements/organizations.
The goals of the individuals really do seem to be about opposing abortion on moral grounds. The organization's goals might be different and might lead to different consequences. But I fail to see how opposition to planned parenthood is about promoting private industry... I really don't understand.
Why doesn't this douche bag worry about all the fucking people we bomb around the world, and quit worrying about other womans bellies. Fucking sheeple douchebag.
I like the message you're sending here but realistically you know they're going to cherry pick what you can and can not put in your body. They already do.
all plastics would have to be banned as well as they are a by-product of petroleum. I bet these fundies would class themselves as patriotic Americans and yet they would bring down American society with these fucking stupid views.
This is so silly, these drugs are needed frequently to help peopel yet they waqnt tos top them? So the mother can get depressed and committ suicide due to untreated depression for this shit?
I wish it were true that big pharma would be in the cross hairs of the "person-hood" movement - but it's just bad information. In reality, these commercial/medical interests will never be "interpreted" to be affected by the proposed legislation.
You do realize that because of the possibility of contracting toxoplasmosis your cat will also have to be banned. And what about alcohol? Anyone remember fetal alcohol syndrome? Of course we did try a total ban on alcohol once... see where that got us. Banning oxycontin could have the same effect.
No matter what they Try to do they have to breath. So I guess they they will have tell the Government's to stop sorting Chemtrails good luck on that one.
Interesting idea. I don't think anyone ever covariated air in all the correlation analyses.
To be honest I don't trust this 'clean air' at all. I wouldn't be surprized it all women having a miscarriage were exposed to it at one time or another...
The problem with these people is that they are the ultimate unimaginative linear thinkers. They are apparently incapable of imagining unintended consequences and the colateral damage their bullshit solutions to problems defined as problems by their culture war cause. And by the way, didn't you mean "anti-abortion?"
HOLY FREAKING CRAP! I get the notion that Wacko could say the names of those drugs in the same manner he did the nations. If you need anything to support it, look at how Pooka did them.
I'm a man and I can't see how we can tell women what to do with their body and/or to their unborn children.
I'm sure if guys would stay with their ladies instead of running away leaving women "hanging", there wouldn't be any women having to choose to abort their own baby that's in their system? I can't imagine how devasted women would feel having to abort their unborn just because they have no way of supporting the baby and not to mention raise the baby for 18 years without the father...?
@Velvetroomdj A good sentiment but historically it is married women who get the majority of abortions (although this has balanced out now that being a single mother is accepted).
Not to be rude, but just by way of observation really, there is a lot of total fucking insanity in America. Why don't you people learn from us British.... We might have our issues, but fucking hell man........
@raw5069 It's spelled "you're"-a conjunction of the words "you" and "are". As for your (the possessive) comment-does the term "satire" mean anything to you?
@hatemorethanyou999 yes ,yes, by all means...now If I thought for a second you could understand why I would tell you,yet for now your eyes are not with you...
@raw5069 Yeah, pretty much. It's not technically murder, but you can call it that if you insist. The vast majority of sperm cells do not penetrate an egg, are they all murdered because they were not allowed to form into human beings?
@CMO999 I know, typically between 12 and 24 weeks legally. I was just trying to make a point to raw5069 because s(he) seems to place too much value on a fetus. As you can tell I'm decidedly pro-choice..
@raw5069 If someone feels they have good cause to abort a fetus then I have no problem with it beyond the expression of saying; "Such things are unfortunate but necessary.".
I was raised in the Judaic Tradition though, and most Hebrews (American) interpret Tanakh so as to accept the necessity of abortion. So for me it isn't hard. I don't have an indoctrinated emotional bias telling me; "it is a human being" (Hebrews are taught a fetus is nefesh).
It's gonna be tough for that barefoot pregnant wife to keep the house all tidy without bleach, 2-butoxy ethanol, mineral spirits, aerosol propellants, aromatic solvents, pyrethroiuds (sorry but you will just have to get used to sharing your house with all sorts of bugs), ammonia... and cosmetics? forget it. I hope she's just naturally able to wake up looking like your expectation of wifely woman meat that got her into that condition.
Smog will have to be illegal... and interestingly enough... atmospheric oxygen causes chromosome damage. In fact atmospheric oxygen is toxic enough that the human body dedicates a significant portion of its enzyme production to controlling and mitigating this damage, which INCREASES if the body is deprived of oxygen... so, breathing will have to be carefully regulated by law.
Genetic auto-immune disorders can cause the body to reject a fetus, so having one might be attempted murder.
There is nothing amusing or interesting about people getting cut off from essential psychiatric and pain medication, all that would do is cause a lot of unnecessary suffering.
@PinkProgram Sort of, he was saying like 'that would be interesting to see psychotic people cut off from their meds' as though to say it would prove the campaigners wrong by being a big shit show, but a lot of people would suffer in silence.
Interesting how the religious want to protect children from harm. I feel the same way so theists, you need to stop brainwashing your kids with god shit. It's harming them. Also, you shouldn't lie to your kids since it's against your holy rules. When they find out you have been pushing the fairytales into their young, impressionable skulls, they will rebel and reward you with the following line;
"Hey mom and dad, I found out the truth so I am now an atheist."
great video Pooka and point well made Heck if it was up to pro lifer's they'd say sex is just procrastinating anyway so I'm surprised they don't try banning that,It would solve there anti abortion problem after all lol
I can certainly understand the desire to ban these drugs. Most of the drugs you mentioned have the unfortunate side effect of inducing sanity; if ingested by these pro-lifers many of them would renounce their fundamentalist beliefs in a fit of rationality.
I subbed to you in I guess around winter (via HappyCabbie I think) And even in the summer you get cool clothes. How did you get such a wardrobe full of clothing? (And how the heck did you learn how to match a scarf?) I've recently been told that my t-shirt and jeans won't cut it anymore when I move to NYC from AZ w/my girl (Her new new job) I guess I her job requires I be very publicly presentable since we'll be living above her "studio" (Talk about a change from living at my ranch)
@hevyAccel Uh-oh. Sounds like you're being "Domesticated". (Pook closes closet door hiding all his clothes which were picked out and purchased by Mrs. Pook) Not that I'd know anything about that..." :P
Without the video description i wouldn't have really understood what you were trying to get at due to the speed at which you talk and all the background city noise drowning out your voice.
Accidents do happen you know, I think we should outlaw any sort of moving and just tell everyone to stay indoors on their sofa so as not to potentially damage any unborn fetuses via the butterfly effect. It's the only way to be sure.
Naw. Then the mother-to-be could suffer from obesity and vitamin deficiency, assuming her husband installed a back-up woman in the kitchen so she wouldn't starve. No, clearly the only way to prevent a fetus from coming to harm is to sterilize everyone and everything, making us the last generation. That'll make sure no fetus is ever again put at risk...
Until a new species evolves; but they don't read large books, so they don't have to factor in abiogenesis or evolution.
What's next? Every distraught woman who has had a miscarriage must also undergo an investigation and possibly be arrested if her miscarriage is "suspicious".
I forget where, but one of the southern states already tried to pass a law where, if they decided your miscarriage was suspicious, they would investigate, potentially leading to arrest and incarceration. So your cynical facetiousness is right on the money.
God bless the south, bustin' stereotypes everyday.
I wonder if the reason the GOP wants to outlaw teratogenic medications is because their side businesses (the gigantic pharmaceutical companies) are getting the molasses sued out of them by parents whose children were damaged?
It's their fault. They're the ones who keep denying funding for appropriate pre-market research of medications (because paying for adequate research trials cuts into their bottom line).
Talk about covering your ass. What utter bullshit.
I'll buy the religitarded chain pharmacy employees' "We're not going to fill prescriptions because we're pro-life" crocodile bullshit when they stop accepting jobs in stores that sell alcohol and cigarettes. Until then, it's all just "sound and fury, signifying nothing".
@AGrandt I (an atheist liberal) use the term 'birth advocate'. Baby's gonna come out one way or another, and I advocate birth over abortion.
'Pro-life' is a meaningless buzzword. It's a way of implying that the 'other side' is somehow 'pro-death'. To me, anyone who seriously uses the term 'pro-life' to describe their position on abortion is a coward, unable to voice their own convictions.
Probably because they don't really know what they believe, only what they've been told to believe.
what will they think of to annoy us all with next? protesting the use of computers because they cause mental health issues? oh jeez.

Shit.... Wait, since you had a sex change and now are sterile, maybe they'll let you keep your albuterol anyway...

theskepticalheretic 8 months ago
I don't get it. I haven't heard of anybody wanted to ban teratogenic drugs. Is this just a reducto ad absurdum of pro-lifers in general? Or is there some specific BS they're peddling now?
In either case, the pro-life position wouldn't justify any such bans. They don't have a problem with birth defects (mild retardation is a plus for the pervasiveness of their ideology), so long as life is preserved.
ghuegel 8 months ago
In part. Keep in mind many of these defects are fatal. And this tact points out the real intent of their belief - not the sanctity of life, but the control of others according to their religious beliefs.
TheTruePooka 8 months ago
@TheTruePooka I don't think so. I think that preservation of life is the real intent, and the control of others is a nasty side effect. Why do you think they want to control people when the preservation of what they think of as life is consistent with their position? Is there an inconsistency I'm missing?
ghuegel 8 months ago
@ghuegel Yes. They are inconsistent in which life they feel is worthy of preserving. I have rarely found an antiabortionist who is consistent in an; "All life is sacred" ideology when you consider their political views across the board. They attempt to take an issue which is complicated in so many ways, apply their simple beliefs and philosophies to it and then crush all dissenting opinion with the force of secular law.
TheTruePooka 8 months ago
@TheTruePooka Interesting. I don't know if the problem is them or you. I was taught early on that when talking with someone whose position(s) you oppose, you should assume the strongest possible justification for their beliefs, rather than assuming or seeking to find some philosophical or psychological weakness. And trying to impose consistency upon your opponents' entire worldview is stifling (few, if any, are 100% consistent).
ghuegel 8 months ago
@ghuegel Really? Huh. I was taught to examine all beliefs, philosophies and positions to determine the strengths, weaknesses and validity of the positions.
But this isn't just some mental exercise. All you have to do is look at how Operation Rescue's "summer of life" went, or how they're trying to shut down planned parenthood (a fight which is about destroying government funded services so private industry can have a monopoly - not about abortion).
TheTruePooka 8 months ago
@TheTruePooka I think we're talking about different things. I'm talking about dealing with individuals, whereas you seem to be talking about groups/movements/organizations.
The goals of the individuals really do seem to be about opposing abortion on moral grounds. The organization's goals might be different and might lead to different consequences. But I fail to see how opposition to planned parenthood is about promoting private industry... I really don't understand.

I'm a man and I can't see how we can tell women what to do with their body and/or to their unborn children.
I'm sure if guys would stay with their ladies instead of running away leaving women "hanging", there wouldn't be any women having to choose to abort their own baby that's in their system? I can't imagine how devasted women would feel having to abort their unborn just because they have no way of supporting the baby and not to mention raise the baby for 18 years without the father...?

raw5069 8 months ago
@raw5069 Yeah, pretty much. It's not technically murder, but you can call it that if you insist. The vast majority of sperm cells do not penetrate an egg, are they all murdered because they were not allowed to form into human beings?
CMO999 8 months ago
@raw5069 Look up the definition of the word 'abortion.'
moronicnotions 8 months ago
@CMO999 I know, typically between 12 and 24 weeks legally. I was just trying to make a point to raw5069 because s(he) seems to place too much value on a fetus. As you can tell I'm decidedly pro-choice..
CMO999 8 months ago
@raw5069 If someone feels they have good cause to abort a fetus then I have no problem with it beyond the expression of saying; "Such things are unfortunate but necessary.".
I was raised in the Judaic Tradition though, and most Hebrews (American) interpret Tanakh so as to accept the necessity of abortion. So for me it isn't hard. I don't have an indoctrinated emotional bias telling me; "it is a human being" (Hebrews are taught a fetus is nefesh).

mooseflier 8 months ago
Smog will have to be illegal... and interestingly enough... atmospheric oxygen causes chromosome damage. In fact atmospheric oxygen is toxic enough that the human body dedicates a significant portion of its enzyme production to controlling and mitigating this damage, which INCREASES if the body is deprived of oxygen... so, breathing will have to be carefully regulated by law.
Genetic auto-immune disorders can cause the body to reject a fetus, so having one might be attempted murder.
