  • In those times it was ok to do songs about women in the kitchen

  • my fav song by RJ got to be one of the great guitar player of all time,i think you could make a great dance track out of this great song !!!!!!

  • My favorite Robert Johnson song.

  • What makes this rendering special to me is that it's just so raw, real, and sexy.No sugar coating or beating around the bush. Not everyone can convey and connect like this.

  • i love it when people don't "get" something and since they don't "get" it, others are attached simply because of a name or a status.

  • we should practise poetry more because this song isn't about guitar even though he's a great, this song is about the atmosphere the devil creates when you're offered a choice :O

  • 0:52 the legend of the devil is true :O

  • Ohhhhhh yeeeeeeesss

  • its gone to be rainin out do.

  • How can anyone attempt to sing the blues after this man has walked off Life's Stage.

This is a real rebuke to the so called music industry with its pretty boys howeling

    at the moon?

  • this is one of my favorite songs of all time nomatter who wrote it or is singing it its a great tune...whoever would force themselves to listen to anything just because of the artist is just an ass

  • not everybody is only capable of liking things that came out last week. in fact, some people are left empty and sickened by the crap put out today, and are almost INcapable of liking new stuff. some people actually prefer to listen to music 90 years old than current top 40, and this is one of robert johnson's very best, in my opinion.

  • 3 people don't wanna come to his kitchen.

  • amazing music amazing important point in history you can feel it when you listen to him i dont anyone FORCES them to listen to this it is a blessing to have had him to record tis great quality music on primitive recording equipment thank you for the post

  • some random guy/girl/otherwiswe puts a comment to piss people off and get noticed..sadly he looks to be winnin!

  • just stop bicarin like a bunch of women...and enjoy the tune and the great pictures...

  • I guess no other singer/artist influenced Keith & Mick more than this man....amazing music!

  • Come on in my kitchen....AND MAKE ME A SANDWICH WOMAN!

  • @ram0000100

That's not true at all. This is a beautiful song.

  • @AngryOBrien Oh come on now. if someone released the exact same song in 2011, nobody would care for it.

  • @ram0000100

I think that's a flawed argument, so I'm not sure how I could respond. If someone played this song for me, without telling me who the artist was, I would still enjoy it very much - and I'm sure the same is true for most. People don't watch, listen, click like or leave comments just because of the name associated with the song.

  • @AngryOBrien All im saying is that it's overrated because he's a blues legend and pioneer from the 30s. It shouldnt show up on all-time greatest songs lists.

  • @AngryOBrien i love the way you ended and started a sentence with most people :)

  • your an idiot to compare music from 70 years ago..whats wrong with you?

  • @nizzlearbizzle right... and why is that?

  • @ram0000100 It's foolish to judge a song on what has come after it. You judge a song on what came before it. Nobody was making songs quite like Robert Johnson during his lifetime. This song is timeless. Most modern music is like paper plates, use it for a while then throw it away and get another one just like the one you just got rid of. This song made ripples in music that in many ways are still present today. What pop star today will have that sort of influence?

  • @ram0000100 Of course not---they'd be too busy listening to Beyonce, Katy Perry, Nickelback, and other fools who need AutoTune in order to "sing." Robert Johnson is too raw, too damn real. Hell---Elvis is too raw and real for kids today.

  • @ram0000100 Plan on seeing Keb' Mo' soon. I'm hoping he'll have this in his set. So yes, some of us not only would care for it, we'll drive hours just to hear it!

  • @ram0000100

Artist-Rosedale (Billy Smart Band) Album-Woogie Boogie Song-Come On In My Kitchen

now that is one amazing cover! he's also covered stop breakin down; robert johnson is the father of the boogie, & you absolutley cannot say that man isn't talented

  • @ram0000100 Some of us would. But you're right, your generation is full of a bunch of (how do I say this politely?)....nevermind I can't say anything nice.

  • @ram0000100 nobody would release this in 2011; cos its too good. go suck on some gaga bitch

  • @ram0000100 I wonder, how many ppl can sing and play as good as Robert Johnson did in 30's ? There're loads of cover of RJ's blues in YT, most of which are mediocre. Enlight me if you happen to know one with RJ's talent.

  • @ram0000100 hmmm, could be true of the ignroant mouth breathing iPod slinging cellphone lugging walmart crowd. You know, kids. Us grown ups listen, y'all babies don't listen to nothing but trash.

  • @ram0000100 I disagree, people will rave like the coming of the Beatles, whom, incidently, learned and got their start with th Blues.

  • @ram0000100 are you f-ing kidding me!?!? have you never heard Crooked Still's version of this song?!?!? soooo beautiful.....

  • @ram0000100 yes, you are probably right , because these days people only listen to well mixed end tuned music. and this music is pure, straight from the soul!

  • @ram0000100 yeh cause new generation is only listening mainstream shit and dont know anything about music..

  • @ram0000100 They didn't care for the song back then either, but here it is!

  • @ram0000100 this is an amazing song. yes the recording and the playing is simple, but the melody and the riffs are so so beautiful... so many have played this song for these 80 years after RJ and for me personally only TWO have done it better and the have both loaned most of the stuff from the original, just played it a bit better , with more instruments etc. That's Johnny Winter - a great version with a flute solo and Crooked Still - a folk band with an amazing singer.

  • @ram0000100 I listen to it because it's a wonderful song.

  • @ram0000100 WOW, ignorance is striking again!!! Guy this man invented a way of playing the acoustic guitar, that guitarists from Clapton to Cooder tried to imitate but failed. The sound quality is good, but it's from the 1930's, it lack the superfluous background and decorative effects and sounds. This is raw blues. These lyrics are full of meaning; that style for playing the guitar...Eric Clapton said that he trained to master Johnson's style for over 30 years but he failed!!!

  • @ram0000100 Besides, if you hear to the song with good attention you'll say there are two guitar players in the song. Well it's Mr. Johnson playing alone. He could play the guitar so that it sounded like a guitar and a bass were playing. I don't think there's anyone who could play this song nowadays. If you don't like it, don't listen to it, but don't mess with Mr. Johnson. Please.

  • @DonFixote100 id have to disagree. While i give him respect for his legacy or what not. He is not really doing much with the guitar other than playing the notes in accordance with the lyrics. Sounds like someone who doesent really understand how to play guitar but understands music theory....JMO. Also, to make that two guitar sound, as you say is so hard to duplicate, i suggest you see dave matthews play.

  • @ram0000100 oh no man..this is what were all are believe me xD

  • @ram0000100 What is with all you cunts trolling blue songs? Seriously are you guys being paid by the KKK or something?

  • @XArcane Yes.

  • @ram0000100

ok it's dated, but great for those interested in playing the blues.Back to the roots,a chance to learn from the men who started it all.

  • I just happen to love this song, it might just be my favorite song ever. for those of you who don't think anyone would like this song today check out the live version done by the allman brothers in 1990. another awesome version was done around 1970 by delaney and bonnie with duane allman adding his killer slide guitar. both versions can be found here on the tube.

  • @ram0000100 yeah(!) and y d u think hes a legend???

    bellend

  • @ram0000100 His riffs and playing style influenced some of the greatest guitarists of the 20th century, no argument about that, mac

  • @ram0000100 nope, I listen 'cause the damn song if a damn sight better than the shit you kids listen to. Hell oingo boingo is better than the crap on teh radio these days.

  • @ram0000100 well there's a good reason he's a blues legend =P

  • @ram0000100 you are not a bluesman. that's all.

  • RAP? This is our heritage

  • Sweet

  • Oh good grief! This is a song about an old girlfriend he had betrayed,(& she had left him for the man she knew before). Now, she has shown up at his backdoor pregnant & friendless. Instead of turning her away, he say's he understands her plight, and will take her in.

Easier to understand the lyrics if you are a Southerner, but it's really a beautiful song and worth the effort to hear the poetry here.

  • I hate school projects sadly this is one of them!

  • woke up this morning....got outta bed..

walked thru the doorway..I banged my head...now thats what i call real blues.

  • Robert Johnson is the founder of all and i mean all modern blues. anybody you like that is from 1950 on influenced by Robert Johnson. there is not mistaking the best ever

  • @prestorjohn26 Robert Johnson was mostly irrelevant until he was rediscovered by Clapton in the 60s. His recordings were very archaic even by the standards of 1936; most contemporary musicians had moved on to jazz.

1950s bluesmen were mostly influenced by jazz, particularly Charlie Christian.

  • Supergreat

  • 0:51 read the sign on the upper left

  • Devil disliked

  • Its about the devil telling him to join him in hell before things get worst. Just a guess.

  • anyone else space out and miss the meaning of the song? oh well, guess I'll listen to it again :)

  • The picture at the very start is very unsettleing for some reason..

  • Breathtaking piece,...!

  • You'd have to be blind, deaf, and dumb not to like this rendition. Thanks for posting it!

  • The rhythm of this song and the way in which the vocals are structured reminds me of Sitting On Top Of The World.

  • the lick at 1:34 gives me chills.

  • james marsters introduced me to robert johnson's music...god bless him for telling me to listen to his music!!! :)

  • Pure legend.

  • Happy birthday Mr. Johnson

  • Happy Hundreth Birthday, Mr. Johnson - 8 May 2011

You inspired so many.....Clapton, Keith, and so many more to chop wood with their axes. But mostly, you inspired me cause I know you didn't make a deal but rather worked your ass off.......no shortcuts. Thanx Pops.

  • I think it says something about your taste in music and experiences in life if this great song makes your day better

  • Thanks for posting this - one of my favorite Robert Johnson songs. A traveling companion of his tells the story of Robert playing this song to a room full of people, and by the end of the song, everyone was crying. It did that to me when I first heard it, so I can easily believe the story. I have some raw 2011 era blues on my channel. Check it out if you can.

  • The Delta Blues are the greatest north american contribution to the world. Thank you for this.

  • damn well done ... excellent images

  • thanks for uploading classics like this---great stuff

  • yes..

  • The devil came in his kitchen.

  • Does anybody know what tuning this is in? I'm too lazy to look it up right now, lol.

  • @mussman717word Usually in an A tuning..with the recorder probably running a little fast so its recorded as Ab....

  • @Garret00074

    thanks, man

  • @Garret00074 THE SONG IS IN B tuned to A=432hz - They tuned differently back then. I prefer the way he tunes.

  • this songs dedicated to the ladies

  • Well, there's no way to make this song better. "Come On In My Kitchen" is not only the best blues song ever, it damn well may be second only to "Amazing Grace" (No, I'm not a Christian, yes that song still rocks). However, you did amazingly better than putting up an album cover or something stupid like that. I really dig this! So from me to you, thank you for putting a bit of time into a proper video for a great song! :)

  • I have just started listening to jazz and blues recently and that was a truly amazing track. Thanks for the video as said rightly so by many a great video

  • The original Dirty South.

  • nothin like the blues..absolutley nothing like it.

  • Thanks for the upload man.

  • this song goes hard.

  • I gotta agree with your many other admirers: This is the most accomplished accompaniment to this song that I have seen. You have a great eye.

  • Best video of this song on the net!

  • Awesome! A fantastic presentation with a fantastic song.

  • It's nice to see that people still listen to real music these days, rather than the bullshit we have now. Keep it up!

  • My favorite RJ song.

  • Very nice : )

i like both this version and the one from gare du nord

  • Great job with the vid!

Amazing photos btw .. great job!

  • what year was this made?

  • where did you get the picture at 0:29?

  • THIS is music. Awesome playing lead rhythm and bass along with his singing. They don't make em like they used to.

  • LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE this song!

  • Now she's gone -- and I don't worry

'Cause I'm sittin' on top of the world

  • Fourteen rivers, fourteen floods

anyone ever heard of blind wille johnson?

there not realated but hes pretty damn good to

check out the song dark was the night cold was the ground

pure emotion, makes you cry man, when youve got the bluesm

  • these arnt offical photos of robert johnson, maybe his family from and uncles and friends, theres no actual photos of him theres olny two the one on the album and the one were he looks kinda lizard like, the backgrounds yellow and the one with the ciggertte to

  • @MUSICNATURE6 Thanks for your input, although no one had claimed any of these photos were official or supposed to be of RJ's family/friends. I just chose them to reflect the feel of the song and the time and locality it was made in.

  • @MUSICNATURE6 There's 3 authenticated photos now - the most recently emerged 3 years ago, maybe less (I just saw it first this year). He's holding his guitar and standing with Johnny Shines, a good friend and fellow musician. Robert's face is convincing enough, but when you look at those distinctive elegant hands with long fingers...well, there's no doubt. Check my channel for some good raw blues, btw. Hope you like the music.

  • 0:52, WTF?!! why is there 666 on the wall? just asking... anyways wonderful song, its one of his bluesiest songs of him!

  • @RohamK96 - 666 was a brand of cough syrup owned by the Monticello drug company. Thanks for the comment.

  • @AngryOBrien Yeah, that was the worse tasting cough medicine in the world.

  • @AngryOBrien hah i knew it! i said on another video that it was probably advertising of some kind

  • @RohamK96 it was a product came in pills or syrup for treating colds and flu ,,, you ll see it in many pre war adverts in the south

  • man,what a great tune

  • Only one live cover of this exists that I can stand to listen to...by Luke Edney. I love this song!

Greetings from Orange Mound, Memphis L:D

  • Hey Louise - you might try and find a version that Cat Power did for BBC Radio a few years back. Gravely-voiced loveliness :)

  • wow!

  • Where did you get the photos for this video? They are wonderful !

    Please share this info please?

  • Mostly from Shorpy's and by searching for vintage photos on Google. Shorpy's was a great resource, I'd suggest checking it out!

  • respect brother respect

  • You did a really good job w/ this video...
