No matter if she thought she was too young for the part; Barbra, that was one of your great performances and I loved the movie. It would have never sold in 1969 if you wouldn't have made it and Gene Kelly knew it. I love it and it is one of my favorite movies. Saw Carol Channing in INDY and she was good but the film needed you. Hope I am watching the DVD at the moment I pass. Love ya Barb.

very good sound..If you would please watch and comment on my Vocal tributes to such stars as Louie Armstrong(One of the best ),Johnny Cash,Elvis and more with more to come!!Thanks,,,God Bless,,,Much Love Tempest!!
Barbra Streisand has got to be one of the most talented people in the entire world! She can sing, dance, act and she always looks amazing, but especialy in this film!!! Of course, she has her flaws...but we all do! Barbra Streisand is a truly amazing person!!!! :-)
I first saw this movie as a tiny kid at a drive-in in Texas! Love this song "mucho" and the Victorian Fashions Barbra so very talented lady! Ps: My brother selected to play trumpet in Jr. High Jazz band becuz our family had alot of love of Louis Armstrong amazing talent and wonderful & loving personality!
I agree with WrldSaran, Louis owned this scene and Barbra was more than happy to pay him the respect in the scene he deserved. Just look at the way she looks at him...she is in awe.
My mom used to tell me this was her favorite part of the whole movie and of course as I child I never got why. Thankfully as an adult I can see how wonderful this scene was and how incomparable the two were together. I might also add that Barbara's voice just pierces through my heart. It's so beautiful! Unforgettable scene!
@IbnKush Hey hey HEY man!!!!i gotta say...i aint exactly a proponent of all this muthafukkin bullshit 'P.C' (so called: 'Political Correctness') crap...but yo post juss hit a nerve...firstly because Bubby Strident IS a 'white' gewl...and yeah...she IS (not "was") a Jew...but i,for the LIFE of me,can't seem to work out what ANY of that has to do with ANYthing??!!!!Babs IS a legend/IS a possessor of a God given GIFT (her voice~box ) etc etc!!So wass the 'problem' man??She's tha BOOM...end OF!!!!
@Atolis2008 Imagine what Bach, Vivaldi, Mozart, etc would have thought about all this music. I am sure that people thought their music was better, and 50 years from now, people will look back at bands today like Muse, Jason Mraz, Susan Boyle, Linkin Park, Radiohead, Green Day, Blink 182, Lady Gaga, etc. and wonder why we don't have them around anymore. Don't fall into the same repetition, I can't that only liking this music and nothing else will make your next years any more enjoyable.
This is one of the greatest cameos in film history, I'd say. Two legends of music performing one of the greatest, most popular songs ever written. And as another poster indicated, Barbra takes a back seat to Louis for his brief portion of the scene. Such respect for a legend.
I do agree. As great as Louis and Barbra are together, no one can top the combination of Louis and Ella, perhaps the two greatest jazz singers (and instrumentalist, in Louis' case) ever.
Personally, I think that Louis Armstrong was given the respect he deserved in this scene, Barbara, although a huge star at the time, took the backround in this portion of the scene. The entire number was rather lengthy and Louis Armstrong had a relatively small part, but, as indicated above, the portion in which he was a part of, he WAS the STAR of the scene. You also have to admit, they perform an exceptional duet. I may be "prejudiced" in the fact that I am a fan of both of them. Tremendous!
@WrldSaran yess..you are right!! both are fabulous!!, i never heard Louis Armstrong music before, now i regret hehe, but i became a huge fan of him,and Mrs.Barbara Streisand also all a pro, both wonderfull!!
gospelkeys07...My opinion why 'some' people decided they 'hated' her. They believed gossip: that she was 'supposed' to be 'difficult to work with', or 'wanted things her way'.. an 'uppity' woman. Well, duh...she WAS the producer/director - and one of the first to take on huge projects. She IS a perfectionist and if the project failed the fingers would be pointed at her so would work to get every last detail right. A man would be viewed as 'careful'. SHE was called '%itch'. See how that works?
man they dont make movies like that anymore...probably because it takes talent to sing and dance and act ...good old musicals...and the scores for these songs ...incredible
The highlight of a an otherwise mediocre film of a musical.....I remember as a kid my mother making us stay up to watch it, and especially that scene.......
I can still remember my late father bring me to the see the movie in Deli Theater at Medan Indonesia I was a 6th grader elementary school, at that time I didn't really understand the kind of Louis' great voice.. later on I just became a great fan of him.. thanks for sharing.. wonderful..!, bring great memories.. although I am not lucky enough to see him perform live.. different era..
Yours has got to be the most ignorant comment I have read on YOU TUBE......why wouldn't there be beautiful dresses in the 60s.......do some research you'll probably be surprised to find beautiful fashions in EVERY decade.......DUH!
I looove this movie! Just watched it again yesterday... It never gets old. Gotta love Louis Armstrong and Barbra Streisand together! They sound wonderful...
the clip from this movie is so good because it IS Louis and Barbra. The star of the Broadway show (and the name closely associated with Hello Dolly) was Carol Channing. There was a lot of controversy at the time over the movie's choice of the 20-year younger Streisand to play the older character of Dolly over that of Channing. However Streisand had the personality, looks and voice to carry it off, while Carol wasn't 'movie' material I suppose. The dance numbers were integral to the B'way show.
